Tutor me a little about PROG if you will. Does it stand for progressive? I know that song wouldn't be on any of my current playlists. Not that I didn't listen to it... or won't click it again while smoking. Anyway... learn me something Ray.

Prog is short for progressive rock. That's all I can offer the subject. Ray will have to step in for the rest. As much as I love music I just could never get into prog. I've tried several times and it just doesn't do it for me. There are a few prog songs I can listen to but the genera as whole, I just can't do it. Maybe my brain is too smooth to get it.

I thought so. Not my real cup of tea either. I mean I appreciate the posts as I like listening to MUSIC. Doesn't have to be my favorite genres. But I don't have any library to match songs with.

Yes Prog stands for Progressive. It originally was almost anything more complex then the basic 3 chord popular rock of the sixties. As you can imagine that would include a lot of bands that may have started out as Prog but didn't stay in that genera. Jethro Tull is a prime example of that. Other bands stayed true to form with King Crimson leading that pack. They have been Prog since day one in 1968 and still are. Others like Yes took a few albums to get to fully Prog, the same with Rush. Stylistically usually longer more developed songs with more emphasis on interplay than lyrics. To paraphrase what was said about porn - you'll know it when you hear it.

@AVB ... would some Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Genesis and even some Led Zeppelin fit the genre? Trying to see if I'm really getting it.

Floyd before DSOM as I mention in my Prog Friday post on Atom Heart Mother, Genesis Up to Three Sides Live (4 sides if you got the import) ~1982. Moody Blues until Octave in '78. Zep never did a Prog album but they do have a few songs that could be considered Prog starting on LZ III There isn't a strict definition to go by.
