The Jonesy Pretty Penny Pass

another question (didn't see the answer in the rules, and i'm asking them 'out loud' as other participants may have the same questions): Are duplicates ok, ie if there is already a Siglo 4, can i put a Sig 4, there would now be two. Also, if one of my puts was to be a 1986 Bolivar NC, what value would you consider it, ie how do you assign a value to really sticks?
There is no problem in putting a cigar into the pass that may already be there. As far as finding the value on an aged cigar like a '86 Boli, I would defer that one to Wilkey as I don't have much experience with that kind of thing.

Hope you don't mind me interjecting here...

But from following a few other passes and seeing this come up and following the links to past threads that have discussed this... Most of what I have seen discussed here has said +5-10% of original price per year, with the premium trending towards the higher end as the stick gets older.

That being said, IIRC, most of what was discussed was involving CC, I'm not sure if NC follows the same thought process.

Frank, Cory is putting together a pass primer and a few people have answered the question as to how to handle age when trying to place a monetary value on a cigar. Pass Primer

I've gone through some previous threads and it seems that it's a fairly subjective topic so my suggestion would be to pm someone like Ginseng (hope you don't mind Wilkey) and get his thoughts on the trade you had in mind. Or just pm me and if I need the help, I'll seek some wisdom.

....and away we go. It will be dropped off at the Post Office in about 30 minutes. Have fun Guys!

BTW guys, I know the box looks big and you might get worried about the shipping, but it was actually quite reasonable......$10.75 for priority w/dc. I asked about the size (22x15x12) and they said that's not a problem because it's not "oversized" at this point so it goes strictly by weight....9lbs 9 oz.

Thought this needed to be in the pass thread also....

A few days ago Mark (NorcalMark) pm's me telling me that he heard from Mark Twain that I would be collecting cigars during my pass to donate to the troops when we're done. So he proceeds to tell me a gentleman had given him quite a few cigars that he would no longer need and asked if I'd like them to donate with the rest.....of course I said yes. I got the box today and I was taken aback!. Quite a few equals out to be 139 loose sticks and a sealed box of La Aroma de Cuba. Mark, you and your patron that donated these cigars are class acts and have shown an unbelievable act of generosity. Thank you Sir!

That is pretty damn impressive! Are these also going to Tim along with the ones we toss in the pass or are they going to other troops?

I agree well played Mark!!! The troops are not going to know what to do with all those smokes, maybe we should send half to my house

Great Play!

Mike and I have discussed this and thought the best thing to do was to send Tim the cigars we donate in the pass plus some that NorcalMark sent, and the rest Mike will send out in an OpFTH package for some other troops. Tim and his guys will still be getting a helluva selection from us so I hope no one objects to this.

I am going out of town this pm and will be back Sunday, so if it gets here later today, i'll have someone house sitting, so they'll bring it in from the heat, but i won't be able to get it on the road until Monday. Sorry for this, i thought everything was good as the package was initially going to be here Wedns.

I imagine knowing Tim the way we do, that he would prefer it this way.

I just PM'd Brother Jonesy about this. And you guys are right on the money.....as much as I would love to fill up the Kiddie pool with them and roll around, I think the spirit of this pass is best served by sending them on to OpFTH, I suggest that they are donated in the name of the Pass or in Cigar Pass. It would be cool if they could go out as one shipment with some info about this, the greatest of Cigar Families.

No problem Frank, just make sure this thing is sitting inside while you're gone.

Come on Frank........you are already screwing up things   Thanks for the post, be careful of your P/T's ???

What happened to Jonesy, waiting on him to get back w/ me on my puts and takes. Here's what i was proposing, i just wasn't sure of the value of my puts and if they were equal or greater value than my takes:

Takes Puts

Monte C EL --- Partagas Lonsdale 1998
Juan Lopez RR--- Cohiba Sig 6 2005
RYJ Petite Pyr.--- H Upman Monarch 2001
Standfords 90th--- Forbidden X Unos

The values seemed awful close to me, but i want some vets to sign off that it's square before i do it. LMK if it looks good or not.

EDIT: Box arrived Friday pm as we were heading out of town, so i didn't get a chance to get into it before tonight. Everything is in great shape, and the Killer Beans will be consumed in the am (will be my 1st KB experience). Above are my proposed puts and takes, and a grizzled old veteran FOG ( :p ) told me everything looked ok to him, but he wasn't sure about the Juan Lopez RR rarity / price, but best i can tell the Sig 6 equals or exceeds it's value. Please PM me if i am not accurate on this. I'll have this wrapped up tomorrow and en-route to Tim, will post DC #. LMK if i am forgetting anything (not forgetting the troop sticks).
