The GAS Pass 2009

With all that said, how can a brother that lives on the east coast get his hands on some?

Brian

I'm not absolutely positive this is the same cigar, but go to The Outlaw website and check it out.

Here

My recommendation would be to call the shop though and ask. Also, they run a special "happy hour" price on their Outlaw sticks as well I think. Like buy one get one or something. Call and ask about it.

If I had more than 2 left I'd hook you up bro, but those things are hard to get and flippin' outstanding :)

Call the shop and talk to Brad or Derrick or anyone really, let them know what you're looking for. Ask about the happy hour special.

I would tell you to follow Wyatt's advice, but if for some reason that didn't work out.....if there were only someone in this pass that lived in KC, and frequented the Outlaw that could pick some up for you. :whistling:

Maybe we could work something out

But Brent, don't you live in KC?

I know its not my turn yet, and the stick I am curious will probably not be there anymore, but I have looked through both tat references attached in initial post, and also search online. I can't find anything on the frank except the $13 per stick. Now that can't be right since there were only 666 boxes made and they are damn sure HTF.

Any thoughts on msrp?

$13 is the msrp on these. The other factor that you must consider when trying to establish a put is, like you said, the rarity.

And one can't put a $ on rarity and say this stick is worth $15.50, or must the put be $13 + rarity?

Debatable on the franks. Just because something is limited production doesn't make it a HTF stick out of the box. You can project forward and estimate the value will go up a buck or two in a year like they did with the noella reservas (which went up a bit more but also had half as many boxes produced as the Frank) but that isn't here or now. Right now the Frank is a cigar that was released in limited quantity a few months ago and is still pretty easy to find if you ask. The BTL is worth about the same and probably about as tough to find right this minute. I wouldn't have a problem with it but I could see how it could go either way in a debate.

It all depends. It's ultimately up to the pass host and what he's willing to accept. Some hosts may accept the first formula while others may be partial to the second. I would say when the time comes, just try the trade you have in mind. What's the worse that could happen?

Alright, here are my preliminary puts/takes. I may adjust these after the box arrives and I get a good look at some of these sticks. Please be kind.

Take: #1 Opus X Robusto Put: LFD Outlaw 2008 blend
Take: #29 Tatuaje Frank Put: AF Between the Lines
Take: #52 H. Upmann Mag 46 Put: PSD4
Take: #54 My Father lancero Put: LFD Factory Press III

1) I honestly don't know anything about the Outlaw stick - at all. Never smoked it, never seen one, only briefly heard of it. Only thing I could find was HERE and appears to be $11/stick normally and $9.90/stick "on sale" (anyone know how long this "sale" has been running?) From what you're saying, there's only 1,200 sticks in existence. If those figures are correct and not exaggerated, it definitely adds a rarity factor. What I don't quite understand is why such a dwindling supply of said stick would be on sale. Anyone care to elaborate on the stick? Seems to be like a Casa Fuente cigar - "rare" except regionally? Anyone?

2) Good. As many people said, both are relatively hard to find, MSRP is just about equal. BTL is a limited release twice a year, Frank was a "one time" shabang. If this was 3 years from now, I'd confidently say no to the trade. However, speaking of the current situation, looks good.

3) Good. I did some research and checked five trusted retailers, all of which I have done business with. Came out with an average of $7.60ish for a PSD4 and $7.75ish for a Mag 46. I'm not going to split hairs about two common smokes that are $0.15 apart. Other passer input is appreciated!

4) Good. As a side note, the LFD III is pretty tasty.

Edit: Formatting/typo.

Aren't hemingway maduros and BTL's only released once a year? A couple years ago they were released for fathers day with anejos I believe, but that isn't the normal case, as it only happened once.

Basically if they are released twice, when and where does one get them in the middle of the year? :whistling:

I'm fine with either decision on #1. Either way I end up with a tasty, limited release cigar. I expect the pass will arrive today, and I would like to get it back out tomorrow if Jonas is ready.

I don't have much time to weigh in....gotta get to work. But I'll say my piece again on it. In my opinion the LFD is the greater of the two cigars. Not just in taste....but in price and rarity as well.

Litto produced these for one cigar shop in the world "The Outlaw" in Kansas City. They are done releasing them, period. Now, he may do some for 2009, but the 2008's are done. The are flippin' gorgeous and delightful to smoke.

I'll say that I think it is a solid trade. Rarity vs. rarity I'd give it to the Outlaw stick for sure. Maybe the Opus has an edge on the "You're not going to pay MSRP" factor, but it evens out in the end with both factors. It's your pass Jeff, go for it. You're not shafting the rest of us going with that one.

Well I've heard a thumbs up from 6 people I respect now. Consider 1 good as well!

Thanks for playing along, Brent!

Alright, the pass was received today. I've inspected the box, the boxes, the bags, the sticks, the beads, and the hygrometers. Everything looks great, and Jeff I must commend you on the time you put into organizing the pass. Excellent job. I updated the zip drive with my puts/takes.

My puts and takes with the numbers:

Take: #1 Opus X Robusto
Take: #29 Tatuaje Frank
Take: #52 H. Upmann Mag 46

I'm ready to send this off as soon as I get the okay from Jonas. I hope to have this out tomorrow and I will post the DC# after I get back from the P.O. Thanks again for letting me in to your pass Jeff.

Thanks for playing, Brent!

Also, I forgot to announce who's out of the LMS contest. I am going to update the main contest post to reflect who's in and who's out.

Brickhouse crossed off #24 - BigJake6904! You are the weakest link, goodbye.
Bsneed51 crossed off #17 - ironpeddler! You are the weakest link, goodbye.

Edit: Main post has also been updated.
Late edit: Clarification.

The pass is off and headed the land of beautiful mountains, and the Denver Donkeys. DC# 0308 0070 0000 6250 5053

Buck up Jake. At least he saved you the pain of crossing off your own name. Humiliation galore.
