You can always pretend, though...

John Holmes,

I have to disagree with your "hill" analysis. We have retained several members for many years, some of which have been here since the very beginning. We don't make it hard to "climb the hill" at all. Most scammers/flamers/trolls drop off rather quickly. Those who are here for the sake of cigars, and want to be part of the SAFEST online community, will remain long time members of CP. I firmly believe that CigarPass is BY FAR THE SAFEST online cigar community out there. The core membership here all believe in honesty and respect. The moment you try to scam someone or outright profit from this community, you'll either be banned or take some heat for it. Everyone (except scammers) has the opportunity to redeem themselves. If we didn't maintain our core values, and allowed new guys to run rampant, all hell would break lose. I'm sure we lose a certain percentage of new members, as they feel they're not the "king of CP", and that's just fine! I'd rather be part of a smaller, stronger community over a whore-like community which only values the number of members over the quality of members. The stronger the community, the better it is. Size means nothing.

Look at George G, Devil Doc, and many others. These guys have only been members for a couple years, yet they're very well respected here. Why? Because they're goal is to uphold the honesty and integrity of this community. It seems unfortunate that some new members try to change a very well established procedure. We could easily implement a team of moderators to manage the board, but then we'd be just like every other cigar forum out there, and it wouldn't be that safe of a place. I don't believe a set group of people should control an entire community. We do quite well managing ourselves. This is an adult forum, and as such, we're the only cigar forum who treats our members like adults. The new guys need to learn and understand what we're about. That hill isn't as steep as it may appear. Obey the rules, be honest and you'll do just fine.

Maybe it was a bad analogy, dunno... Thanks for sharing your opinion, though, too.

Those last two statements are especially important. It seems like the reason some people think it's a steep hill is because they don't understand what we're about here. To further complicate things, most of the times they don't even know that they don't understand (if that makes any sense!) Rather, they feel that since they have posted several hundred times in a month or two, and sent out a couple of bombs, they should automatically be "respected!" It takes time HERE to build up respect. You can post all the DC#'s you want and do all the trades/sales you can early on in your tenure here and it doesn't entitle you to crap. You can't meet a group of friends, give them all a few gifts, and expect them to treat you like they've known you for years. Along those same lines, some people seem to think that post count and sending out bombs/engaging in trades is contributing to the board. But, in the end you can't buy, or post your way into respect. Sometimes NOT responding to every topic under the sun or NOT trying to set up 10 trades or sales a day is more of a contribution than actually doing those things. I don't have the time to type all the things I think some of these newbies are missing, but I'm sure someone else will cover them if need be.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the key to establishing a reputation here is pretty simple. Come in, read a lot, post a little, and most of all, just don't be a dick! Everything else will fall into place gradually. If you don't like the pace with which that happens, there are a whole bunch of other cigar bulletin boards out there that might suit your needs a bit better.

I can't be a dick anymore??? Damn it!!! :(

It also seems to be a recurrent theme on this board.

But - cops write a ton of speeding tickets and people keep speeding...

...and bitching about the ahole cop that stopped them and wrote them a ticket, like it was some kind of personal attack.

To all,

I have made several mistakes on this board. I appreciate the contructive comments made to me. This forum is an on going learning process for me. I believe respect is earned. I also believe it is mutual. Trust is also something that is earned as well. So if I offended anyone here, Please accept my opologies. I hope we can start over.

No, you can't be a Richard, you're a George! :D

John thinks it's a steep climb cause he can't seem to avoid posting that crap in threads like this and then taking the heat for it. What's this the 2nd... 3rd time in your 5 month tenure here John? tictoc deserves what he gets regardless of what you think about it.

George,

Any cop that scratches me off a ticket for speeding or anything for that matter is a dick and I'll tell everybody what a dick he is. Just cause I was speeding don't mean he ain't a dick... mmmmkay?

Now why would they think that when they KNOW who the King of CP is..................

Stop being a dick. I gave no opinion on what you guys do with Wade. I'm 100% allowed to post my opinion and you're 100% allowed to disagree with it. I was not addressing you in any way yet you felt the need to mention my name once again.

Like moths to a flame...

And to think I am going to KC today and look what I will be missing out on. :sign:

And most others accept the title as a part of the process of becoming something other than a rookie.

Just my opinion here, but I think this "process of becoming something other than a rookie" or newb, if you will, is different here than many other places. It's very long. One step out of line or calling attention to yourself sets you back for good or for an even longer time. You're expected to "post less, read more" for quite a while...

It's not insurmountable, though. I just think that it's a very long process here that most people nowadays aren't used to. You guys at the top of the hill don't see how the hill has changed and how the new guys are struggling to get to the top... you don't care because you're already there (for example).

Now see? There you were blathering on about how difficult it is to be accepted here and doing the very thing that causes you problems. I pointed out to you and the rest of the guys who might be deluded into thinking your comment had merit, that the reason you think that is because you can't resist saying stupid shit. You can't resist posting in threads like this and spouting off about your myopic view of this board. Then you turn around and call me a dick. You have a very high opinion or yourself with absolutely no visible foundation for it. Your opinion is wrong. Not only that it's stupid. Your experience here is very different from most of the new guys because you can't shut up. Your opinion is wrong and if you don't want me saying so then try being right. Also, if you don't like it here then let me cordially invite you to fugg off.
Have a nice day.
