PARTIGAS serie D 2005 reserva

i took 6 partagas out of there boxes and all five with the red band measure about 18mm they are the serie d reserva, serie d #4,part p #2,part p #2 edition limtad( a new cigar to be released later this year) and serie d #1 le, the sixth cigar is the lusitania which has its on special band. i believe they changed the lable a year or so ago and you may have a older cigar you are comparing it to. or maybe yours is the fake. reportadlly 95% of all cuban cigars sold u s are fakes. i am not trying to be insulting just trying to get the facts stright. i am sure there are other members who have some recent partagas in there humidor that could quickly varify the band size???

Vitasea. Sorry dude...mine are not fake, I know that for sure. I don't know if the bands have changed or not but my cigars aren't that old. Just came over from the island about 7 months ago. And it's not the length but the width of the band that gives it away. Also not the same type font and not the same color (Gold). I will smoke it tonight, though. And I will apologize if I am wrong. But what I'm saying right now is that the band is fake. I give my honost opinion of the cigar later tonight.

I would post pictures but I'm too dumb to figure out how to post them.

OK...Got mine today. The cigar is well made...triple cap and a clean foot. It's very dark in color. The cigar smells of a barnyard which is a good thing in the Cuban cigar world. The bands seem OK. There are variations in legit bands. I herfing with a guy tomorrow that knows more about Cuban cigars than I ever will. I'm gonna show it to him...measurments on length and ring gague will also be made then.

I'll smoke it in about a week. I'll post a review then.

I didn't ask for a Partagas but Vitasea did send me some very nice Cohibas, Sublime LE, Double Corona LE, Siglo VI. I haven't smoked them yet but I will let you know how these are as well Vitasea. They look and smell good but I did notice some variation in wrapper color and bands to other Siglo VI's that I've received from a reputable BOTL. Still, the gesture was very nice.

Apparently. Has anyone tried one yet? I'm interested to know if they turn out to be fake or not.

I received one yesterday in the same condition as others have described above. VERY WELL packaged, so at least that has improved. Otherwise, the construction is great, but I'm not an expert on ISOMs so cannot validate the authenticity of the stick itself.

Fetter, you make an interesting post about the bands. It's too bad you can't post a side-by-side pic. Does anyone else have any info on if the bands have changed or an explanation for the difference?

I'll let it sit in the humi for a week or two and post comments after I smoke it.

Vitasea, thanks for the effort on this. I'm hoping these turn out to be real, cuz you've put a lot of effort into it. If not, well... best be throwing in the towel. Either way, the Cohiba 2-stick case will get some use from me.

I can post pics of the band side-by-side with a current PSD4 and PSP2 bands when I receive mine. The bands will be from this year so there should be no difference.

EDIT: Bottom line, the PSD$ Reserva is just an aged PSD4. So, it should look and taste very similar.

Has anyone tried finding a pic of what the band is supposed to be? This is a different cigar than the Psd 4, so I wouldn't be surprised if the bands are different. I also wouldn't be surprised if the cigars are still fake. Some of these spammers and counterfeiters can be quite persistent. What was the point of him sending all these cigars out for free again anyway? Was there originally something he was trying to sell us? That thread was quite some time ago, and he hasn't mentioned anything actually for sale right now.

I'll go check online for a pic of the band. Or does Habanos try and not let any pics circulate for fear of counterfeiting? That wouldn't make sense but you never know.

Not my picture but didn't want to hot link it (source-related)

Here's a couple pics I found at online retailers:

[REMOVED BY ME]

[REMOVED BY ME]

Now after more looking I found another pic, but the close up on the band has the year "2000" on it, [REMOVED], so maybe I'm looking at the wrong cigars online.

It's supposed to have the year 2000 on it.

EDIT: By the way, hot-linking to pictures directly on retailer sites is not the best idea.

I'm not sure why not, they're sites that are linked to from this page. Or anyone can go to google to find those same pictures. I'm not "giving" away sources, or asking for them either. Just curious when the hatchet falls about sources and when it doesn't. It's all good.

I don't know. From that picture, the Reserva looks pretty real. The color is closer to a PSD4 than your three. May be the lighting. Your PSD4s look pretty dark (almost Maduro) in that picture (darker than they should be). They should look like the Reserva in that picture and the one I posted. Also, the bands don't look that different. Finally, size wise, the Reserva in that picture looks more like a PSD4 than the other three. Based only on that picture, I would say the Reserva looks real, the others......? (going by size and color alone).

Hard to go by a picture but you posted it and those are my thoughts based on the picture alone.

Also, the bands should be 17 mm wide (12/04)

I agree Mrjingles...but I do know that mine are real. Pictures do weird things. i couldn't get any closser to them, my camera wouldn't focus.

But like I said in an earlier post...I will apologize if when I smoke it, it turns out to be real. I didn't want to cause trouble (well, maybe I did :) ) but I will give my opinion when it has been smoked. Although, I have seen PSD#4's in slightly different shades of wrapper. So the wrapper color isn't what gets me...

You are not causing trouble. Vitasea asked for honest opinions. You posted the picture and I just weighed in with my thoughts, based on that picture. All I am saying is that your PSD4s look really dark there compared to the Reserva. I have never seen them that dark before. Length wise, they appear longer than the Reserva. How long are they (in mm)? How long is that Reserva?

Mine = 127 mm

His = 123 mm

I hate to say it but yours are too long. PSD4s are ~122-124 mm. I just got mine from him 5 minutes ago. Band is spot on. Length is right on. Width is right on. Smells like a PSD4, looks like a PSD4. I'm going to let it sit for a few days before smoking it but at first glance, compared to a real PSD4, this looks legit.

Dimensions: 122 mm x 19 mm

Band: 17 mm wide

Color: Same as 12/04 PSD4

Has a triple cap and construction looks good.

Cigardawg is better at this than I am so I will let him take a look at it tonight. I'll post pictures later...

Looks like I'm gonna have to do some talkin' to my local tobacconist...well ain't I!! ;)

Like I said twice before...I will ambarassingly apologize if I am wrong.
