I do think it is too late to change it also.  I was just wondering if anybody bothered to check the Map before it was decided where the "Official CP Herf" was going to be.....

Remember, this wasn't put together by Rod, he didn't start the thread.

50 people showed up to the Quad-State Herf done by stogieman & hudsonvalley.

It is just a shame.... with the amount of members that CP has.. the RSVP list has only 14 names on it.  I would still love to show up but the truth is, I won't know till the last minute.

Like Gonz said.... maybe we could have one on the East Coast sometime in the fall.

We'll call it the "Offical East-Coast CP Herf"... as long as Rod approves

Has anyone ever known our fearless leader to not speak up if there was a need for it? He has already done so in this thread about a variety of things.

A lot of planning has already gone into this thing. Not just on Matty's part, but on the part of the "14" members who have RSVP'd, not to mention any others working on making those plans. Like it or not, agree or not, this has been in the planning stages since the beginning of the year at least. Why is it so difficult to just attend, or not? There is a lot of complaining and "suggesting" going on that really does nothing but detract from these efforts. I can appreciate opinions, but I for one appreciate them much more when they are placed in a location where they can become tools for discussion. This thread's discussion phase is over. Plans have been made, location and dates chosen. It's too late to move it, re-think it, etc. Let it be. Give credit where it's due. Most of all, please contribute to this effort, or at the very least, don't detract from it.

So no one is allowed to offer constructive criticsm, it that it? A whole lot of planning went on for the 2004 herf in Las Vegas which NEVER happened. You weren't around for that so you wouldn't know..... ;)

Why do you accuse people of "complaining"? I for one do not appreciate the tone of your post. Just because you don't agree with the discussion and the points that are being made and brought up, you start slamming those who are making contributions to the effort.

The point here is that Memorial Day weekend is not a good choice for a CP Herf nor is Las Vegas as evidenced by the input from members in this thread.

I seriously think this whole event should be reconsidered especially considering the wide variety of input in this thrad from a considerable portion of the membership.

Come on guys, let's take the thread jacking shit elsewhere. Start another thread for another Herf, either happening later this year, or next year. I don't care where that one happens, but this is not the thread for that discussion. Rod asked who would want to step up to make the CP Herf a reality and only Matty_Vegas stepped up, and a big slap on the back goes out to him for stepping up. I've got plans for Vegas this year. Next year NY, Chicago, Miami, wherever would be great. Let's just not have that discussion here. You guys are "old" enough to know this.

Thanks,
- C

What "thread jacking shit"? You're just as bad as kiltedcraftsman......

I suppose my suggestion of the French restaurant is "thread jacking" in your opinion, is that correct?

Memorial Day weekend is still a bad idea in my opinion so since my opinion is different from yours, I'm "thread jacking" right?

Grow up.....

PM from Blue Dragon:
CC .. Jesus Christ.

Did my post mention anything about your idea of going to a French resturaunt? Did my post mention anything about the date being Memorial Day weekend? Did my post single you out? No. It refers to the suggestion that this event should happen elsewhere, for the 2006 Herf. It is not constructive, it is not helpful. Start another thread. And stop getting your panties in a bunch.

- C

Blue Dragon, it seems to me that you are the one who has your "panties in a bunch"

Please do not send me any more nasty PMs like this one or I will lodge a complaint with Rod.

I've been around this board for coming up on three years and I've seen well intentioned people try an organize a "CP Herf" and as SteveHawk pointed out, they have never materialized.

There are many other members along with me posting excellent, constructive ideas in an attempt to make this work.

It's extremely unfortunate that you cannot understand this.....

The reason this was taken to PM is because this conversation does not belong here on this thread. If you have a problem with me and want to lodge a complaint with Rod, please do so. All I am requesting is that posts be constructive around this topic, the 2006 Herf in Vegas. This is materializing; we have times, dates, sponsors, and attendees. My response has nothing to do with time on the board, but just content.

But feel free to get a plane ticket, a hotel room, and meet us down there. That would help give a lot of credibility to your "constructive ideas" and to help make this Herf materialize.

Cheers,
- C

I'm wondering if it would be better to do the herf in Chicago during the summer, when most activities are going on - or during the fall/winter/spring - when it's easiest to get rooms... I gotta figure it's harder to get rooms during say, Taste of Chicago - or the Air and Water show... I'm not sure how that all plays out... Certainly it would be cool to do it during events like that - or when the Cubs are in town - rather than during times of less activities...

And I guess we should get an idea for the attendees that are coming from out of town if they want to attend other events, or strictly blow into town for the event and that's it...

Vegas if great and all - but I know they have blackout times when there are big events going on. Airfare, hotels, etc. are through the roof during those times. I suspect Chicago or New York may not suffer from the same kinds of black out times/dates, other than maybe the big events...

I'd like to hear what other think about this...

Well, a big NY herf would likely be expensive for participants, as NY has a way of being.
However, I do have a family conenction to some of the highest end hotels in the city, and MIGHT be able to swing a rate deal.
I would love to see a big east Coast "official" CP herf.
I'll ask (for my own curiosity) about rooms, smoking, and maybe even if we could gain access to a venue for the Herf itself. I doubt it, and if we could it would still likely be prohibitively expensive, even with whatever deal I could get.

Not sure if Vegas is a bad idea since CW gets over 100 guys for their herf in Jan. The 06 herf is going to happen and its happening in Vegas. Would be pretty cool to do it in different places each year. I would love to head to the Niagra area next year for a herf.

But for this year I'm very happy about heading to Vegas for the herf. It's going to be a great time. Thanks Matty and Rod for setting this up. Oh and Alex for getting some sponsers to make this event even better.

You bring up a great point! Do we want to have these herf's in the same place, and the same time each year? Or do we want to give everyone the oppotunity to attend one when they're closer to their homes... I'd like to see it circle the country. It would be pretty awesome to have it some place like New Orleans, once everything is back up and running there full steam... That actually would be kinda cool!!!

And what about John, Hale? Is he gonna show up, or at least donate to the "cause"? He's always been generous in the past...

SCHWEET IDEA!! We should get a list of ideas for locations together and start the voting now so we are really prepared this time next year, or whenever its planned.

Hartford, CT!!!!!!

So much fun to do here! You can watch thte traffic on 84 East OR West!!!!
You can, let's see.....watch the traffic on 91....North OR South!!!!
Um...you can, uh, get to Boston or New York in about 2 hours!

Niagra/Buffalo sounds good to me.

I'm going to send him an email on Thursday. He is out of town right now. I'm sure he will donate a few boxes and Probably would love to attend. I know that domestics at events like this don't really go over that well ,but i'll see what he can do.

I don't really care where the herf is. If I can make it I will be there. I have allready booked flights for Vegas. And if someone wanted to arrange an event for NY or Chicago for a diferent date, I would be interested in coming. I think that the bottom line is if you want to, and it is possible to make it, you will find a way to be there. I did. And I am coming from the east coast. I am looking forward to meeting all those who attend. I don't care if it is 15 or 115 BOTL I can't wait. And my hat is off to Matty for putting this together.

I could make it to Hartford, or Canada.
But my wife won't let me go to vegas. Something about gambling, hookers, show girls, the bunny ranch, etc.

sounds like fun, though.

Hell, bring her with you. My wife is coming along with a lot of other wives.

Like Vegas is super convenient for me. I am 1745 miles away :0 .

But than again I dont mind traveling, even during the busiest times of the year. I would not be opposed to a herf in NY/Niagra falls area....New orleans...florida etc etc. Heck I would even love to go to Mohegan Sun sometime.

But it would be unfair to change the date and location for those BOTL's who have already booked airfare and hotel. And unfair to Matty and Rod for trying to get something orginized and the sponsors who have donated their products for us to raffle.

If the majority of the board feels the same way, as some of you who have posted about the validity of this being called the 1st annual Cigarpass Herf.
We could just go ahead and call it something else. And not have this tied in any way to cigarpass or the sponsors of the herf.

Also If someone wants to step in and start orginizing for the next event that would be great. Hopefully their is a bigger turnout than this time around. You can count on my support to help gather sponsors and interest.

And nhcigarfain. Bring the wife. I believe the majority of ppl going are bringing their significant other. The more the merrier.

My ex-wife (if I were still married to her) would never want to go to Las Vegas. On numerous occasions she's told me she's not a big fan of the loser entertainment like Wayne Newton, the cheezy Elvis look-a-likes, the glitzy crap, the over priced low class restaurants, etc. She's not a gambler however she does enjoy casinos but unfortunately as time goes on, people dress like slobs when they go to casinos now. Years back, people actually dressed up when they went to the casinos, like they were going to a nice restaurant. Now for the most part, the patrons look like homeless bums. It's an opinion shared by many women I know.

If he sends out the selection he did at Fox and Hounds to the Vegas herf... ;)

Hey - there's always room for domestics!!! I still like those Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte's!!! Best damn $3.00 smoke there is...

I don't understand - why is everyone saying people are trying to change the date and place??? It appears to be "set in stone" - I think so, at least... I mean it appears it is, right???

There are those that will not be attending this years event, but there will be other opportunities in the future... But I'd like to make the location and date known WELL in advance so everyone has a great opportunity to get the cheapest airfare, and lowest room rates possible...

Personally, I'd like to see it somewhere in the midwest - mainly because I'm close by. But I'd also like to see it in a major market so I have the best chance of getting a good deal on a plane ticket (New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans, etc.), and plenty of choices of hotels and ammenities (restaurants, lounges, etc.).
