Official date for the CP Herf!

George,

NY herf would be better. Higher turn out. Plenty to do around here if you decide to make a weekend or more out of it.

Memorial Day weekend wouldn't be a good idea. To many family things going on then. Maybe the weekend before or after.

Too late to change either the location or the dates. Plus, if we did, the thing probably wouldn't happen at all.

From looking at old threads, it looks like Rod's been trying to get a CP Herf off the ground since 2001. Did any of these events ever happen:

2001 Attempt

2003 Attempt

2004 Attempt

From viewing the threads it does not look like they did.

The fact that this one is happening in 2006 is a direct testament to Rod's persistence and Matty_V's willingness to step up and take the reins. Thanks to both of you for that.

I'm sure that those attending will have a great time, and I hope that as many good BOTLs and SOTLs as can plan to attend. Those of us who have made the decision to attend would love to see you there! :)

I do think it is too late to change it also. I was just wondering if anybody bothered to check the Map before it was decided where the "Official CP Herf" was going to be.....

Remember, this wasn't put together by Rod, he didn't start the thread.

50 people showed up to the Quad-State Herf done by stogieman & hudsonvalley.

It is just a shame.... with the amount of members that CP has.. the RSVP list has only 14 names on it. I would still love to show up but the truth is, I won't know till the last minute.

Like Gonz said.... maybe we could have one on the East Coast sometime in the fall.

We'll call it the "Offical East-Coast CP Herf"... as long as Rod approves

Sunday I was at the herf at CigarKing - had to be over 30-40 people there!!! I know LOL herf is close by - but maybe some thought should be given to something in Chicago. After all, Chicago is damn near in the center of the country - and I know it's incredibly convenient for Hale and Alex!!!

Works for me.

I like the Chicago option. Never had a bad time in Chicago. I can drive that in eight hours or less.

Has anyone ever known our fearless leader to not speak up if there was a need for it? He has already done so in this thread about a variety of things.

A lot of planning has already gone into this thing. Not just on Matty's part, but on the part of the "14" members who have RSVP'd, not to mention any others working on making those plans. Like it or not, agree or not, this has been in the planning stages since the beginning of the year at least. Why is it so difficult to just attend, or not? There is a lot of complaining and "suggesting" going on that really does nothing but detract from these efforts. I can appreciate opinions, but I for one appreciate them much more when they are placed in a location where they can become tools for discussion. This thread's discussion phase is over. Plans have been made, location and dates chosen. It's too late to move it, re-think it, etc. Let it be. Give credit where it's due. Most of all, please contribute to this effort, or at the very least, don't detract from it.

I know New York has lots to see and do - but Chicago does too...

If you do it during the summer, there's also a possibility of seeing a Cubs game!!!

There is soooo much more to do in NYC..... you could actually bring the family and let them do some sightseeing while we HERF away.

Don't worry about the price of hotels.... you don't need to stay in Manhattan... great places in the outer-boros.... plenty of transportation

I don't know if thats a selling point. :sign:

Now if it's a Yankey game then lets talk.

a friend of mine owns the downtown best western...he'd be excited to have everyone stay at his place....he'll give us a great rate.....alternative brews...a blues/cigar bar would make his place available for the herf.....i hope there's some interest here....how about a hold 'em tourny at the seneca niagara casino??....i'll work on bflo's best steak house for a cigar friendly steak dinner...lemme know...

The only reason to go to a Cubs game is to see the Cardnials beat the crap outa them.

Seriously...Chicago would be a great place for a herf.

But isn't there a smoking ban in New York? There's one in Chicago that just passed - I don't know if it's in effect yet. But - there are plenty of places out in the suburbs!!! Shoot - CigarKing was fantastic in hosting ours - and there was the Village Pizzeria down the street - the owner was very nice... Not that we have to have it at either place, but just some thoughts...

I actually live to see the Cardinals beat the crap out of the Cubs... (I'm a Sox fan). But - seriously - Wrigley Field is one of the best ball parks I've been to. I hope they never change it - it's very comfortable!!!
