The GAS Pass 2009

The Love Story isn't from the CF Opus 22 set or it would have been noted,

I understand that but how else can you accurately establish rarity without considering all of the cigars that were produced? Or do you just consider the number of cigars that were produced at the price you paid?

Once again, it's an issue that is over-thought but highly debated. It's like Politics of apposing views...neither side is right or wrong, but bring viable facts to the table....but in the end, there is always a compromise with some bruised viewpoints.

Both cigars, for the most part, may never be smoked by 99% of the members here...making them pretty rare to the average cigar smoker. We can talk MSRP and origin till we're blue in the face. So I will ask one question...how many of these were made and available? Whether someone had to hand it to you for free or it was part of a Super Rare, Limited Edition (sic), Manufacturer's Personal Humidor, Once in a Lifetime Box Set...whatever....they both hold merit within their own right. The problem I always see within higher end Passes is that these type of cigars seem to be more of a collectors item as apposed to something you will take out of your humidor without hesitation and smoke. You guys with vast inventories of these smokes may disagree, but the reality is that most average smokers don't have them.

That being said...the trade is fine.

The Taboada just f*cked it all up

PS: Now, stop the filibuster and mail the fricken box!

Yeah, I kinda new there was no way in hell that PFR was going to make it back to me... I was SO CLOSE! :(

The thing with a lot of the different opus shapes and sizes is that they are the same blend. I know the shape changes the wrapper to filler ratio. I think is easy getting caught up in the collection of various opus sizes, but in reality it's a marketing ploy. The PFR is made with 10 year old tobacco and is similar to the millenium blend, but still different blend. The PFR is an amazing smoke IMHO, which I know Jeff will attest to. I think the different blend would make somone search this cigar out even more and want to give it a try. I am just commenting on the cigars. I sure would like to get my hands on that taboada.

Box is packed and ready to go, I will post the DC# in the morning when it ships.

BTW, I crossed off #13 in the Last Man Standing. :whistling:

Should I pull that Taboada off the list :whistling:, I am kidding :).

I'd be happy with the Taboda.

Yup - Agreed

P/T is totally up to the host

??? Umm, what is a Taboda?

Found on the net...

"Taboada is a Level 9 roller (highest level once can attain) with more than 48 years experience, including head of Quality Control at the La Corona Factory in Havana. Taboada specializes in rolling unique sizes with the original, full body Cuban blends including--but not limited to--Salamones, torpedos, and robustos. Taboada is a walking encyclopedia and is familiar with all the blends and has all the available tobacco to custom roll any of your favorite cigars. His own unique blend is somewhere between the flavor of a Cohiba and Hoyo de Monterrey. All his cigars are ready to smoke."

Because one coming from the CF Opus set will carry the price tag of $43.19 compared to the $20 from the box of 5. Do you know how many boxes of PFR's have been produced? Do you know if they'll be produced again? Do you know if the Love Story's will be produced again or is this a one time production? My point is that it would have been good had it been from the CF set because of the price AND rarity associated with it.

...and if you can accurately establish rarity, let me know because I didn't know it could be done.

BTW, if people are talking about ratcheting up the price of a $20 Love Story (in rarity) to equal out to a $35 PFR, then what happened to bumping up the PFR's price for rarity? You can't do it to one without doing it to the other.

I know this kind of discussion slows down the pass, but I really enjoy watching and participating in spirited debate such as this over cigars. They make me consider things I wouldn't otherwise. Good discussion folks!

One more point about this and then I promise I'll shut up.

Example: Dave is in my pass and wants to take a Chili Pepper from the 2007 CF Opus fun set and has a Perfecxion X from the 2008 CF fun set to trade for it. Is this a good trade? I don't think I could turn it down because of the price difference ($34 for the Chili Pepper and $43 for the Perfecxion X) even though the Perfecxion X isn't as sought after as the Chili Pepper. Now what do you say about Dave putting in a regular production 2008 Perfecxion X ($12) for the Chili Pepper? Dave would get laughed out of Cigar Pass. Now I understand this example doesn't take into effect that there were a limited # of Love Story's produced outside of the CF set, I just wanted you (DeVonn) to understand where I was coming from in my post above.

I love this conversation as well, but it has been confirmed that the PFR is the family smoke and is produced on a regular basis, just not available on regualr basis. Again, I am not arguing either side because I think that Jeff has to decide on this one. This is huge fun :).

I think anyone, including myself, who commented on bumping the price of the LS's up was not due to rarity but to averaging in the cost of those in the CFCF 22's, which it doesn't seem was appropriate. The only way to establish rarity is to use all of the information we have available to us. As far as the PFR's, I have no idea which is why I asked. As far as the LS's..... What we do know is the number that were released initially on CF, an approximation of the number that were available from TS in December, and the number that were available in the '08 CFCF 22's. We don't know what is going to happen in the future so all we can use is what we know at present, which could very well change in the future. I think you present an interesting example below which is in line with the question I posed above.

One more point about this and then I promise I'll shut up.

Example: Dave is in my pass and wants to take a Chili Pepper from the 2007 CF Opus fun set and has a Perfecxion X from the 2008 CF fun set to trade for it. Is this a good trade? It appears that it is appropriate, even necessary to evaluate a trade(rarity?) based on how much was paid and the context within which the cigar was acquired.(ie, CFCF 22 Perf.X vs. regular production Perf.X from the local B&M) Prior to this point being made, if I was presented with the scenario above I would have summarily vetoed such a trade. But, that would neither be correct nor fair based on how this Perf.X was acquired and the price tag associated with it. I would be interested to see how others of you that have run your own passes would handle such a trade.

I just want to say that I know the banter on this subject may seem mundane and unnecessary to some of you guys that have been around much longer than members like myself. Even though I've got a few passes under my belt I will admit that I'm still learning and I for one am glad this discussion is taking place.

I am glad this discussion is taking place as well. It is interesting to see everyones viewpoint :). However can I get the PFR or what :), LMAO!!

Jim

I think all the information to consider is out there, now it's Jeff's decision. I know my thoughts, but wouldn't begrudge him either way.

Not to go totally off topic... but sir Jeff... I shall be unexpectedly moving at the end of the month to Hilton Head SC... this may change where I go in the pass, how the pass travels... or if you even think I can still be worked in.
Heads up!
Chris

I have made my decision(s). Jim, kindly put your "put cigars", forget to take your "take cigars" and mail it back to me. I win!

Oh, and Chris.. you're out of the pass! I'll work it out - don't worry!

In all seriousness - all things said and considered, I have a tough decision to make. :(

Jeff, thanks for having me. It was a pleasure.
