I have a couple of thoughts about this MAWPIF, some of the pitfalls it has encountered and how it could continue on as a fun and interesting event. These are my opinions and unless I name you, I'm talking in generalities and not about any one person or people.
I took care of someone I can respect and wouldn't mind helping out, and asked for things that only a certain fraction of the membership could provide. Frankly, I was thinking of Mike when I asked for them. Not right not wrong, but I have built relationships with people on this board that might have those things, and more to the point might give them to me. We all "think" Moki has maduro Opies, but realistically, how many of us think he would give them to us. I would bet the people that answered that he would, call him Andrew, and know his wife's name, his dog's name and maybe even his favorite color.
It seems to me that many people are looking at the thread as a way to realize their pipe dreams. I think if it was simply played as a chance to get that cigar you have heard great things about but can't find locally, or as a single, it would work out fine. There are people like Grateful1 that can ask for a 858 Rosado, and based on their connections and friendships get one. But the guy that has been here for a couple three months and has done nothing or very little to create relationships just looks like a mooch asking for the same thing. It’s that fine line between what you want, and what you've earned. If it's crossed too many times it will cause the downfall of this.
If after reading the last paragraph, you hear yourself saying, "But some guy with only a few months asked for an OR Opus and got it." You might want to go back and take a look at what Greg has been doing here for the last couple of months. Besides, Brian is a generous guy, but even he isn't going to give his prize cigars to any old Moe that asks. Both of those guys should be feeling pretty good about what their actions said about them.
I don't have any of the cigars that Gary is looking for. That being said, I don't mind waiting a day or two for somebody to decide they want to see Gary weep, or for him to lower his wishes back to the level of the common man. From what I've seen of Gary, it wouldn't surprise me to see him revise his wish to something that 90% of the member base could fulfill.
Sorry for the Wilkey like post![]()
I completely respect this post and the principals contained in it. For that reason I will read it from time to time to help me to remember what this board stands for. I have to say for the record I am saddened that some of the longtime members take offense when someone with less than a 1000 posts speaks their mind about something, right, wrong, or indifferent It seems to me that some should try to teach the other members about things before they are abrasive. Just my .02. I am happy to be a member of this board and I know that I contribute to the good nature here and for me that is all that matters.

Great post Matt!
You say in your post that "some should teach the other members about things before they are abrasive", but almost every reply to you was trying to nudge you along and help. But looking at most of your replies, all I see is "look at what I've done in my 2 months here" or getting Snarky with some of the established members.
Then as always, theres the inevitable newbie dog pile, usually consisting of members with 3 months or less grumbling about how theres always a few who try and ruin things. Oh really? There are plenty of examples of why established members do that. If people would take the time to read a little more, then the light bulb would click on.
If you look at Wilkey's request, what was the 1st stick he wished for? An OR Opus, Anejo or ISOM for the 70's? Nope, a Holt's Old Henry! And did you see Rob (bobbyritz) give up his spot, and where he didn't say I know that I contribute to the good nature here and for me that is all that matters. That is the true spirit of a PIF. Give more than you get. It's a PIF, not a WID (what I deserve)
I've been here a little over 2 years now, and I still don't have the balls to ask for a OR anything. IMO, I don't feel that I've earned it just yet.

God, I feel so USED!!! You didn't even call me the next day
Addy in profile Thanks againpm me your addy if it's not in your profile.
For my wish, i'd like to defer it to the most generous BOTL in this thread, Jonesy, him giving up a Opus OR is incredible.

Jim,I am slowly internalizing the info, sometimes I am a bit slow, but I think I am getting it. I will kick the humility up a bit and just be a member who has fun! Thanks for the observations. I must say that it is very difficult to convey my true meaning via posts, I know that it may always seem that I am trying to seek credit, but really what I am referencing is actively participating in the board not gimme, gimme, gimme. Again I am learning, thank you!!

I can't say I've ever met a man over cigars and booze that I didn't come away understanding or appreciating just a little better. When lovers of the leaf meet with open mind, so much of this internet e-crap just falls by the wayside and people suddenly seem to grow up.
