The CP Make-a-Wish PIF Thread

Smoking them for quite sometime actually. I have two opus maduro, but not the #2. I also have an original release Anejo just not the shark (which happens to be my favorite). Now the Partagas on the otherhand I have zero of because I missed the release. In my opinion the Rosado that was given up is harder than either of my wishes. Any more questions, bfree ;) ?

Wow! Being snarky to a very respected brother's gonna work REAAAL well for you (did I use snarky right Bruce?).

Did you happen to think about the fact that the Cohiba 5 isn't even close to in the same ballpark as what you're asking for?

Snarky? Never heard of it! :sign:

Dang, I was hoping to get in on this, but at the current rate it'll never happen. I hope some newbie has an easy request LOL!

I agree, but I must state again I meant no respect at all, but it seems as if someone is ALWAYS trying to turn these threads into drama. Anyway I will change my request in just a moment.

Step

So now you're accusing me of wanting to "stir things up" and "start drama"? I was merely making a point.

Again please understand I meant this in general not you. It seems that sometimes members who have been here for a while think it is alright to belittle people with less time here. I understand heirarchy and have respect for many of the long time members including yourself because I came here to seek knowledge. Anyway lets just move along. I wish for a Partagas Serie D #3 Edicion 2006.

Step

Send me your addy.

Behike, Anejo A, Anejo Lancero, OR Opus, Opus Maduro!

Damn, and folks were giving Step a hard time about hard to finds! Good luck with this Gary!

I understand the comments that where made to me. I think that giving up a maduro 5 and requesting the sticks I did was a bit much. It is all good I got one of the Partags Limited I wanted, thanks Gary!!

I have a couple of thoughts about this MAWPIF, some of the pitfalls it has encountered and how it could continue on as a fun and interesting event. These are my opinions and unless I name you, I'm talking in generalities and not about any one person or people.

I took care of someone I can respect and wouldn't mind helping out, and asked for things that only a certain fraction of the membership could provide. Frankly, I was thinking of Mike when I asked for them. Not right not wrong, but I have built relationships with people on this board that might have those things, and more to the point might give them to me. We all "think" Moki has maduro Opies, but realistically, how many of us think he would give them to us. I would bet the people that answered that he would, call him Andrew, and know his wife's name, his dog's name and maybe even his favorite color.

It seems to me that many people are looking at the thread as a way to realize their pipe dreams. I think if it was simply played as a chance to get that cigar you have heard great things about but can't find locally, or as a single, it would work out fine. There are people like Grateful1 that can ask for a 858 Rosado, and based on their connections and friendships get one. But the guy that has been here for a couple three months and has done nothing or very little to create relationships just looks like a mooch asking for the same thing. It’s that fine line between what you want, and what you've earned. If it's crossed too many times it will cause the downfall of this.

If after reading the last paragraph, you hear yourself saying, "But some guy with only a few months asked for an OR Opus and got it." You might want to go back and take a look at what Greg has been doing here for the last couple of months. Besides, Brian is a generous guy, but even he isn't going to give his prize cigars to any old Moe that asks. Both of those guys should be feeling pretty good about what their actions said about them.

I don't have any of the cigars that Gary is looking for. That being said, I don't mind waiting a day or two for somebody to decide they want to see Gary weep, or for him to lower his wishes back to the level of the common man. From what I've seen of Gary, it wouldn't surprise me to see him revise his wish to something that 90% of the member base could fulfill.

Sorry for the Wilkey like post

This is a great post and it articulates well what I've seen happen here. Not all complicated issues can be meaningfully distilled down to such statements like "read more, post less" and it is a disservice when we do so to all of those members new and old who are trying and really working at figuring out what "getting it" means. In this case, it took a "Wilkey-like" ??? post to adequately express what has been passing unsaid.

I look to the senior members to set the example. I ask no less of anyone that I'm willing myself to give. And in the case of this MaWPIF, we did not do right by the inexperienced members by effectively promoting false expectations of the pipe dream. This PIF is a place for the community to come together. For the one to ask of the many...not the one. If I wanted a Cabaiguan WCD, I would ask Andrew for it and not post it as a wish here.

Perhaps the fact that "common" cigars and "pipe dream" cigars have been wished for suggests that there should have been two PIFs. One for "easy" cigars and another expressly for the elusive or rare cigars. Maybe newbies should then be excluded from the "HTF" PIF or players be prequalified. I'm not sure we want to go there. Yet. My whole intent was that this would promote interaction and provide another avenue for transactions to engage the rookies and the pros. I believe it still has that potential.

As for managing it, that's not my job. We're going to work it out here in the open and it will work or it won't. I'll make whatever changes the community decides upon but only because I made and can edit the opening post.

So, as Tim suggested, WWWD? What I'm going to do is to add my voice and perspective to the discussion. Do it with respect, do it with civility, and do it with the good of the community and our members in mind. I'd do no less and I'd expect no less from my friends and board mates here at CigarPass.

I completely respect this post and the principals contained in it. For that reason I will read it from time to time to help me to remember what this board stands for. I have to say for the record I am saddened that some of the longtime members take offense when someone with less than a 1000 posts speaks their mind about something, right, wrong, or indifferent It seems to me that some should try to teach the other members about things before they are abrasive. Just my .02. I am happy to be a member of this board and I know that I contribute to the good nature here and for me that is all that matters.

Again Wilkey your insight is appreciated. Thank you!!

revised: (I actually meant to get to it earlier but the couch took over :( )....

Of course I 'wish' for the one's I've previously noted. However, they are not expected by anyone. This is a wish.
Putting expectation on my wishes tends to lead to disappointment...but there's hope.

If I really really want a cigar...all I have to do is post of an ISO - if it comes around, awsome. If not...I keep looking.

As far as this thread, I would expect anyone to put their wish down, no matter how edgy that wish may be.
This IS the Wish PIF.

I've taken my turn and a wish was granted...thank you!

I will be sending out Rob's and s13's wish....mine is a Hemmy Short Story.

I went through boxes of these when I first started smoking cigars.....and havn't had one in a long time....I look forward to it!

Have fun!
