Well considering you really can't make an insurance claim, what's the sense in paying for postal insurance?

Delivery Confirmation gets you essentially the same thing as insurance (making sure that it gets to where it's going) 'cause as I explained, I dunno how you can make a postal insurance claim for cigars that aren't even supposed to be here in the first place ???

That may only work if the package is lost. If it's damaged (ie: crushed into pipe tobacco), then they (the postal service) will inspect the packaging to see if there were any faults. Basically, they look for any possible way to push the blame onto the senders. I've had to file claim a few times. Luckily for me, they weren't able to find any fault with my packaging and I was able to get my money back, but I'll tell you what... it was an ordeal I do NOT want to go through again.

I would only put Insuarance on a package if the host requests it. It's for their peace of mind... not mine. :)

Thanks everyone for all the excellent posts regarding insurance. I pretty much agree with everything that was said. My personal experience is any insurance causes USPS to take extra care to not lose or mis-deliver the package. Plus you have to sign for it so that can help as well. An example:

I bombed a brother a few months back. I wanted to surprise him so I didn't tell him it was coming. After not hearing from him I inquired whether he had received it as the DC had showed delivered. Best we could figure someone stole it off his front porch :0 If he would have had to sign for the package this wouldn't have happened. Anyway...

And I agree with all that was said too- thats why I said $50 - $100 ($1.30 - $2.00 extra). The whole concept of insurance on the box was only to make sure the USPS guys take a little extra care of it- but I tend to agree with you all- a claim would be "tricky" :D

My only concern is keeping the box from being lost- that happend to me once before on my very first pass a couple years ago, the box got lost from player 1 on its way to player 2 :( :sneaky: . So whatever you guys think on the insurance is fine with me.. :thumbs: but PLEASE use some kind of tracking number, like delivery confirmation. :) :thumbs:

Here is some insurance for you.........I will insure that this box gets from me to Kurt with out any problems. I promise I will drive this ALL THE WAY (LOL) to his house and hand deliver it to him.

Good point lucas about the signature required for insurance BUT that is also an option for DC as well.

Personally if someone sends ME a package I have to sign for, it's an inconvenience and in my case, since I live in the freakin' styx, there's no one around to steal anything ever left at my back door. Also in my case someone is ALWAYS here when the mailman drops by so nothing is ever left outside or on a porch. It either fits in the mailbox or he leaves it with who ever answers the door.

So the moral of the story is IMHO that it's a good idea to contact the person you're sending the pass TO to see if DC w/ sig. reqd. or insurance or neither is the way to go. If I'm sending to someone with a PO Box, there is no need for insurance or DC w/ sig. reqd.

Again anyone who sends me a pass shouldn't bother with insurance or DC w/ sig. for the reasons I just mentioned.

Exactly the kind of insurance I plan to finish this pass with, but prolly a meet at the Cigar Shop. :)

Sorry I've been M.I.A. these last couple of days guys... I had my 13th wedding anniversary on the 15'th of Jan + we attended a wedding reception on the 17th, so with all the shopping (me for the wife and getting new clothes for my Kids), spare time has been a little hard to find! :p
