One hit wonders...

And so began Bubblegum music. To their credit the Lemon Pipers hated it and only recorded two other songs in the same style, one charting at 46, out of fear of being dropped by Buddha Records. The tragedy is Green Tambourine was a #1 hit in 1968. Like FZ said, "Most people wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the ass."

Doc

 I almost posted this one Doc....but I hated it back then and still do to this day!

They had another song called, "Toss Up" but I don't remember it getting any airplay so this group is still a 1-hit wonder to me.

LOL, I guess I am gettin old. How the hell was this crap a hit. No offense if this is your thing but if you have to try this hard to look cool. What's the point.

Love the car though...

I don't have to try to look cool, I am cool. As for the video, I didn't watch it on MTV back then, it was the sound of the beat that got me. They do look a bit corny, but I judge music by how it makes me feel.

Sorry, I was not referring to you trying to look cool, the guys in the video.

Perhaps not a hit, but one of the greatest punk/alternative band ever and the closest they ever came to a hit.

I agree with you on this. Wiki says they've had six top 11 singles, though. Just FYI because I was curious. :)

One hit wonder? Blasphemy!!! ;) Actually, I thought 'Here Comes Your Man' was higher charting but I could be wrong on that. 'Wave of Mutliation' got quite a bit of air play after it was in Grosse Pointe Blank or one of those movies. 'Letter to Memphis' was pretty well played too. Truly a great band but I don't think radio stations liked sifting through songs like 'Crackity Jones' to find the radio friendly tunes.

Saw the Pixies open for Janes Addiction at the Hollywood Paladium in 90
We were in the line out back and Frank Black walked up to me and pushed me out of his way to get through to the stage door. What a dick. Great band though!

Don't make me get my Angel Flights pants out of the closet, I'll tear it up on the floor for you guys!

And don't forget about your Famolare shoes you old disco kings! :sign:

Disco sucks and retro disco sucks even more. Damn Hughes Corporation with Rock The Boat started a decade + of that crap.

X2. Disco is even worse than Bubblegum music.

Doc

I don't think Sheila E. qualifies. She's one hell of a musician, quite possibly in the top 10 as a percusionist, who has played on dozens of other peoples records and quite popular among Cubans in the Florida area.

Doc.

I am all about the Old School hip hop and R&B. I have this song on so many burnt CDs... One hit wonder yes but a great song with a great beat!

I can't BELIEVE no one's posted this one yet . . . a genuine one hit wonder that's STILL sort of a hit. Gets frequent airplay on "damn you're old" rock stations!
