One hit wonders...

Disco sucks and retro disco sucks even more. Damn Hughes Corporation with Rock The Boat started a decade + of that crap.
X2. Disco is even worse than Bubblegum music.

Doc

 That's why there are so many 1-hit wonders in the disco world. But I can't say it sucked for me, especially when I got to take a girl home with me from the club.

I tried remembering any 1-hit wonders in the heavy metal world but those brain cells are long gone. ;)

I'm using this thread and downloading some of these to my Shuffle, I was getting tired of starting my walk with Survivors', "Eye of the Tiger". :sign: :sign: :sign:

Perhaps not a hit, but one of the greatest punk/alternative band ever and the closest they ever came to a hit.

One hit wonder? Blasphemy!!! ;) Actually, I thought 'Here Comes Your Man' was higher charting but I could be wrong on that. 'Wave of Mutliation' got quite a bit of air play after it was in Grosse Pointe Blank or one of those movies. 'Letter to Memphis' was pretty well played too. Truly a great band but I don't think radio stations liked sifting through songs like 'Crackity Jones' to find the radio friendly tunes.

I'm probably wrong, but I don't think they ever made it to the pop charts. I do remember them making the modern rock/college radio charts, but I don't think they had much airplay to land on Casey Kasem's Top 40.

Okay, I feel much better BTB! Phew, I almost had to resort to posting Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners. Oh well, it fits the bill.

Somebody had to post these... though I have to admit they both make me smile whenever I hear either.

No question. I was blown away the first time I heard Surfer Rosa.

'Here Comes Your Man' certainly gets way more airtime. I would think 'Where Is My Mind' got some extra love from "Fight Club," too.

Sadly, outside of the college radio stations, songs like 'Rock Music,' 'Caribou,' 'Vamos' and 'Hey' never got any play.

C'mon you rookies! The king of all One Hit Wonders has to be "Switching to Glide/This Beat Goes On" by the Kings. I'm not even sure they have any other recorded songs.

Saw the Pixies open for Janes Addiction at the Hollywood Paladium in 90
We were in the line out back and Frank Black walked up to me and pushed me out of his way to get through to the stage door. What a dick. Great band though!

You must have deserved that kind of treatment from him!!! He has done several in-store performances at a record store where I have close friends. The store is a sometimes client of mine. Any way, after the in-store appearances I have driven Frank around Cincinnati for his performances and he has always been a perfect gentleman. I will be sure to tell him to give you a kick in the teeth next time they play Hollywood.

Forgot to mention my favorite Pixies cover, Concrete Blonde's "Wave of Mutilation" on the "Pump Up The Volume" soundtrack.
