Liquor Acquisitions 2023, 2024

Picked this up at our local grocery store - for $45! This was produced by the guy who started Whistlepig. He sold Whistlepig and now has started a new distillery. Well worth $45 if you're partial to rye whiskey! đź‘Ť

I think I lucked out - retail at a local grocery store of all places…. 🥰

UPDATED: At the urging of my son, I've cracked this bottle to sample the contents and all I can say is "where have you been all of my life!!!" Amazing nose (likely sounds crazy, but I could definitely smell traces of the Rickhouses it had been stored in!), mouth feel and long warm finish. Love the smoothness of 14 years of rest, followed by 4 months of the complexity added by the cognac barrel staves mixed with the heavily toasted staves the whiskey was finished in. All kinds of wonderful flavors (wish I could be more specific them other than to say the flavor is very "complex"). I will continue to pursue what the specifics are about the flavors that I'm experiencing, but sad to say I can only enjoy this experience through the end of the bottle because I can't imagine ever finding another bottle at a reasonable price...

One of the best bottles posted in while. A unicorn for sure.

Seems to be a LOT more of the BT HTF's around these days - I also grabbed a bottle of Weller SR at our local grocery store last week. Had not seen it around for the last year! Also had access to a few bottles of Eagle Rare, EH Taylor and Blanton's (picked up another bottle a few weeks ago). The local Binny's is even saying that they are starting to just put all of those on the shelf because there's no sense in keeping it hidden in the back!

But of all of the BT's - Weller's SR is one of my favorites!

Finally cracked it. Letting it breath for a bit. View attachment 87964
I'm not much of a a peated scotch fan, but the Octomore sure does get my attention! I recently finished off a bottle of the sister non-peated Black Art - one of the best Scotches I've ever had. But it's gone up about another $100 a bottle since the last time I bought it...

I instead had to go slumming and purchased the more "affordable" Dalmore King Alexander III...

Never had the Dalmore, but have heard great things about it. I'm enjoying the Octomore, but it's not like I always need to have one on hand (especially at the price I paid). Riddle me this and tell me if you ever see the Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength. The regular Sanaig is a favorite, but my store here in St. Louis doesn't think he'll ever get the CS.

I have not seen the Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength - but I fear that is going to be somewhat of a unicorn. Not a lot of places carry Kilchoman (about the only place around here I usually see it is at Binny's). I will keep an eye out because you just never know!!!

Really lucked out yesterday - found this at a local grocery store. Been chasing this to no avail all over the place! Love the Wild Turkey 101 - and want to see what the additional age will do for it!

(Excuse the placement on the pet food aisle shelf - was trying to mess with my son who is a HUGE Wild Turkey fan that I found it in the pet food section of the grocery store...)
