Liquor Acquisitions 2023, 2024

Finally pulled the trigger on a big dog and a nice supporting cast.View attachment 84356
Love Bruichladdich! Just finished my bottle of Black Art recently. Enjoyed the last of it with my son - who agrees it's one of the best whiskey's he'd had. Unfortunately - the price just keeps climbing...

Love the Classic Laddie and Port Charlotte (even though I'm not a huge fan of peated scotch). In my estimation (FWIW) both are very well crafted and a great expression of Islay Scotch. I am very tempted to pick up a bottle of their 18 year (if I can find it). The 30 yr is a bit out of my price range...

Yes, I was lucky to have a pour of the Black Art a couple months back and it is well out of my price point. @Eqwhipped brought a bottle of the 18 to RMCF this year and I enjoyed several pours. Bruichladdich is definitely a brand worth exploring.

Got this the other day at my nearest cigar B&M, which is also a pretty good liquor store.

It's damn decent.

I Had to see what all the fuss was about.
Honestly... i get a Makers Mark finish. I'm no bourbon connoisseur, as that comment most surely tells on me.

I do love me some Blanton's but since I'm only able to source a bottle or two a year ....

Will say that I love Woodford Reserve's Double Oaked just as much as the regular Blanton's single barrel, and IT I can find whenever I want & buy as much of as I like. But Blanton's Gold is another dram entirely. I'd put it right up there next to Stagg & for me that's saying a LOT.

I actually get more of a Angel's Envy mixed with a wee bit of Templeton's Rye (just a smidge), Woodford's Reserve, and Rabbit Hole finish. It does taste complex, but not ostentatious. That's just me though. 😁

But I completely agree - for the price it's not worth the effort. In the $30-50 range, maybe. It's a good bourbon, but not worth $80+. In fact - all day long I'd much rather have other BT products such as Eagle Rare or EH Taylor above Blanton's - and both are cheaper.

I'd even take Buffalo Trace over Blanton's. That's $25 a bottle..

I live in California and walked into the only local Liquor store that sells higher end and paid way more on a whim. I would definitely of liked Blanton's a lot more at $80. 😁

Hell, I like 1792 Small Batch, better than Blantons and I can get that all day at $25.

There's another one!! And the Isaac Bowman Port Barrel Finished bourbon. For $40ish... Yeah - that's some good hooch!!!

I saw a Tullamore Dew Caribbean cask finish at the store the other day on sale so figured I'd give it a shot, against my better judgment. I should have listened to that nagging inner voice that was telling me that I don't like Tullamore Dew so why bother. I'll still drink it, because it's not in my genes to throw anything away, but the finish does not help the whiskey at all, in fact it may make it worse.

I’ll take Rare Breed over any of ‘em. My consistent favorite.
Oh yeah! Rare Breed! ♥️ I am especially fond of the Rare Breed Rye.

But I could not agree more on the best Old Fashioned being made with Rare Breed. Was very blessed when visiting the Wild Turkey distillery that they had a few bottles of the Master's Keep Unforgotten for sale in their retail store (at retail price, no less!) I did try the Masters Keep while at the distillery (they served it in the store - will be keeping that hidden in the back of my liquor cabinet for special occasions) But also had a Rare Breed Old Fashioned they crafted. Wow...
