One of the many things I like about CP is that I can come here with just about any question and someone will provide the answer.

And there is no such thing as a stupid question! ......Just the people who ask them.:)

I have heard that with a jailbroken Firestick you can get "everything" but I don't understand just how true that is?

If you jailbreak a Firestick, do you need a TV provider (such as cable, or Hulu) in order to get live TV, ESPN, NFL games, etc.?

I have read that jailbreaking a Firestick is perfectly legal because you "own" the Firestick, but again, I don't know how true this is.

Search youtube. There are a ton on instructional/informational videos. You probably will find your answer there. As for “free” sports. Do a youtube or Google search as well. You’ll find several options. :)

I have searched, watched, and read 30 videos/articals and all I have found is "how to jailbreak the Firestick"

Can't find an explanation of whether or not you have to have "a TV provider"

It’s not really jailbreaking either. It’s just a setting allowing you to install software from unknown sources or to side load an app you got from some sketchy ass site.

You don't need a TV provider, however with that said Kodi hasn't worked in around 2 years, since the one update alot of the stream channels don't work anymore. Now weather that had to do with my fire stick being older I don't know.

When it worked I could get everything even PPV, it would buffer quite a bit and was a pain to navigate.

I'm kinda gathering that. I guess the first thing I need to know is if I need cable or another source of live TV in order to benefit?

Right now I have canceled everything and all I have is a few Roku devices and one Firestick. No live TV, no ESPN, no football, etc. Will jailbreaking the firestick give me those things or will I need a live TV source first?

I guess I am just a dummy when it comes to this stuff! I have jailbroken the Firestick, I have loaded Kodi, but I get nothing but a few movies and a "downloader". When I click on downloader, it asks me to enter a URL?

I am lost!

If you have roku you have live TV, think its the roku live tv channel. Can't remember which streaming channel it is I want to say Fox now has some football games. If you want to spend 35 or 50/ month check sling orange, blue , or combo. Can't remember if its blue or orange that has espn.

I don't really watch sports , for us between the free stuff on roku, and Amazon prime and netflix we can pretty much always find something to watch. However I don't watch alot of tv to begin with. Maybe 2-5 a week.

On Kodi , there should be I think its called apps , should be a bunch of them. Like exodus , Covant , I can't remember others.

Feel free to send me a pic of your kodi screen and I can help you navigate it. Just been so long I don't remember the menus.

Ee got rid of everything too because we realized we never watched it, but football season was killing me. I got one of these and get FOX, NBC, CBS, and ABC, along with some others. That has me pretty sweet for college and Sunday NFL football at least. I have a friend ESPN login, so can stream that (now that I have real internet!). Amazon has streamed some games in the past too of you have prime, though I'm not sure the plans fit this season? Only thing I'm missing is NFL network.

A Facebook friend swears by these, but I don't have any personal experience with them.

You don’t need a tv provider, but I would suggest getting the highest speed internet setup you can budget. If Xfinity/Comcast is your only choice. I’m sorry.

You just need a good internet connection, especially if you want to watch movies. All you are doing is putting apps on your stick. It is very easy to do, or so I have heard.......

Look for M3U playlists.

So I am by no means an expert, but from what I hear in the cigar store (which we all know has to be true) the Kodi software isn't as effective as it was about two years ago. In most shops there is usually a guy who will installs the Kodi software on a firestick and configure it for a decent channel load. I don't think loading the Kodi on a Firestick is hard. I think the frustration is configuring the IP addresses to get the channels you want.

If you are frustrated, there are boxes you can buy that are fully loaded Android boxes with the cost of channel access built into the price. The S2Pro is one, and there a couple of others. Here is a link to a YouTube that might be helpful:

The prices seem high to me but if factored against avoided cable it may make cents.

I don't have any of these boxes. I cut the chord in '17 when I bought my first smart TV. I have Netflix and Hulu and pay less than $10 a month. I have HBOMax for free through my mobile account. I like the Pluto TV app, which is free, as it has a number of channels that I watch. I also have an over the air antenna for local channels.

I was curious about having a Kodi box but honestly was concerned that it may be a security gap on my network.

The jailbreaking part just lets you load apps that aren't on the official app stores - the official ones will (likely) have a per month charge or commercials. There's a bunch of ISP TV apps out there, but you don't really know if they have actually paid the license fees to distribute the feeds they offer. Plus these apps might not have been vetted for malware and such, you just have to trust them. The boxes like the S2Pro mentioned charge a hefty up front fee that supposedly covers your share of the license fees.

Regardless of the app/box you run (other than official ones like Hulu or Sling or stuff like that), you'll probably really want to set up a VPN to cover your tracks. If one of the apps gets busted for unlicensed distribution, last thing you want is it pointing right back to your home IP address.

Using the vpn makes the streaming unbearable. At least when I tried it.

I use an IPTV service to get UK subscription TV here in France. It cost €199/year but I get 5k tv channels, tv series, movies 1080P & 4K, porn ;) and all PPV.

Worth checking out this forum - https://iptv.community/

Many resellers offer a 1 month trial. Pretty much all of them will work on a firestick. Better if it's a 4k Firestick as they have that extra power.

IPTV needs a good internet connection. Would recommend minimum 100Mbs if you have a house full of people streaming. Mine hits around 40Mbps max load.

VPN side of things is taken care of at the providers end usually.

I guess the bottom line is that you "MUST" have an account with a live TV provider or it can't be done?

I have tried every way I have heard about in an effort to be able to watch the MNF game tonight but they all come back to where you have to select your TV provider.
