FIREFOX - THE BEST WEB BROWSER

No it comes with the 64 bit windows and the Longhorn (or whatever its called now) BETA

Link to 64bit review

I have a A64 but refused to upgrade to the 64bit windows XP... I dont see a need for it (yet).

*EDIT* seems I was wrong its only in Longhorn and beta packs for "software and Web site developers" for use with XP pro

Thanks for the offer, but I need the German version :p

Ya, its out as a beta right now, and it also comes with Vista..
I am a Microsoft beta tester so I have Longhorn server, and 64 bit Vista .

I currently run Windows XP Pro 64 bit on my Ferrari 4000 laptop and it is much better then the 32 bit version.

I run Vista 64 bit on my desktop at home.

But IE does come in a 32 bit version for windows XP

I'm sure its better, but I'm a game reviewer and lets just say... most games run like poo or don't run at all under 64bit ATM.

mdman--I for one woudl certainly be interested in trying out 7.0 on my two computers with XP.

You know, I dont know if I just manage my computers differently or what, but I have never had any problems with IE, ever. I know there have been security flaws, but I have not had any problems related to them personally. Now I run IE 7 and it has tabs like firefox, and it a lot better and secure then the older versions. ( I think anyway)
I also own a Mac, and use Safari on it, but I like IE for a few reasons.

It resolves correctly all pages I ever go to.. ALL..
I design and develop websites also, and I can always be assured that if it looks good in IE it pretty much looks good on the rest of the browsers out there.

I have used firefox, safari, netscape and a few others, but always go back to IE.

I never see any pop ups, or have any problems with spyware and so on.

Having been in the computer industry starting in the early 80's and all I can think of is that most of these problems are related to surfing habits, or maybe not filtering out spam or clicking on strange emails.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Not at all mdman. I think this whole FireFox thing is a craze until the next great one comes out as the "opposition" for IE.

One thing I notice is that FF is a memory HOG. It seems to just want to churn away at hundreds of megs of memory. I find Crazybrowser (front end to IE) is so much thinner, faster, and more agile.

Now that you tell me IE7 has tabs, I'll be waiting for when the Linux version comes out!

Has anyone tried Avant? It has the "Tab Feature", I NEVER get pop-ups. As stated in my post above, it has auto-refresh on timed interval or any page that's open. Skins and other cool features. What else can I say except, I've tried FF and IMHO it was just as bad as IE.

Not affiliated in any way with Avant, just like to share a good thing.

I tried Avant cos it was recommended on the "Optimize Windows XP" page. I didn't like it at all. I had already learned firefox, and this browser annoyed the hell out of me. Wasn't worth switching from crazybrowser.

Hey Rod,
Got it AND love it!

Darren

If you don't already use Firefox, I highly endorse it.

Because I used Internet Explorer a few times to go to some sites, I now have a bunch of virus's, spyware, trojans, adware, keycorders, etc on my computer. I am being forced to format my entire harddrive yet again, for the 3rd time in 2004! All because I used Internet Explorer. I have firefox installed on my other systems, and those computers are fine and unaffected. You may not be able to uninstall IE, but you sure can use something better. Firefox even offers tabbed browsing, come on Microsoft, you guys don't even offer that yet! Firefox is the most secure browser out there, and it's free.

Get firefox here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Still my favorite browser. It has prevented a lot of spyware from hitting my pc.

Firefox still eats up too much system resources, now that Opera is free I've switched back to it.

One thing I miss was the Control-ALT- short key that created a new window. Problem w/FFis the new window is my home page instead of a copy of the last source page.

Anyone find a workaround tab for this?

Gunpowder,

There are literally 20-30 different extensions to manage the "open" functions in Firefox. One thing some people have a bit of a learning curve with is the new window idea from IE. I find it much better to use a new "tab" in FF instead of the new window, as I might have used in IE. Just my opinion.

One extension I think is an absolute must have is Tab Mix Plus. It provides many many options for manipulating tabs.

IMO extensions are the real beauty of FF. Here is my current line-up of extensions. BTW InfoLister is the extension that creates this web page and publishes it for you.

I see you have Spellbound installed. Is it working?

After I upgraded to 1.5x Spellbound disabled itself and there have been no further updates as far as I have found.

Any ideas?

Cool! Now maybe I can spell correctly :)

Works great! I misspelled a couple of words up there and it caught it and did the Word squiggly thing. Nice!

Thanks for your help.
