CP's "Cigar 101" Newbie Pass 4

This is what I posted on the CAO Lancero:

CAO Lx2 Lancero (could only find three sites)
Atlantic $6.49
Tobacco Locker $6.50
NH Cigars $6.86
Total $19.85/3 = $6.62 price [/b]

Not sure where $8.50 came from?

The $8.50 came from me. I came to that figure because I couldnt find many sites that sold the LX2 in full boxes. the couple sites you find sold the Lanceros in smaller quantities, so I didnt use them.
I did find a few full boxes, although they included a 'free humidor'. So I used those. The prices were $240 & $250 for 28 sticks, including 'free humidor'. So 240+250 /2 then /28 = $8.75 (my math still sucks).
So thats how I got my number.

So are we now using smaller quantities to figure average MSRP or do we stick to full box counts. And for the record, I still dont think anyone ever gets 'a free humidor', as evident by the pricing..ahahahaha

Let me know

That's because they are not sold by the box. And not going to be sold by the box any time soon, if at all. That came from David at C.A.O. when I spoke with him on Wednesday. These were only released with the humidor as a limited release. The shops that are selling them separately are doing so against their C.A.O. agreement and making up their own price. They are not available, so rarity would apply. MSRP was set by C.A.O. at $7.95 each when they were thinking about releasing them a couple of months ago. Again, that came from the rep... By the way, David will be with us at the Herf on Feb. 27 in Alexandria.

If there is a humidor included in the price, then the humidor needs to be assigned a value and subtracted from the per stick average.

This has been discussed before in this tread. if they are only available with a humidor then the humidor is not subtract-able. it consided the same as a box and does not take away from the per stick price.

Actually, the humidor and the cigars were just a promotion. Technically, these cigars don't exist. I did give you the M.S.R.P set by C.A.O. if they are to be released. $7.95 each. M.S.R.P. is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. Not what stores choose to sell them for. Camacho or SAG will not let you sell their cigars for less than the MSRP they set. It's in their retailers/distributor agreement.

i was just making a general comment not specific to the these CAO'S. For example the CAO America Anthem i Put in was only available to purchase with a humidor. 18 cigars in a humidor for around $400/18 = $22.22 per stick. the humidor does not effect the per stick price jut like a box doesn't.

I got the info on the Tatuaje Black Jar from Pete "The suggested price before any local tobacco and sales tax was $247.00. I hope this helps......."
It looks like the MSRP on the sticks are 13. That's a $2 diference. In my opinion this doesn't work even though my palate says yes.

CAO LX2 Lancero Linky.

Like I said not available as per Robbie's link they were going to be released for $8.02. Pretty close to $7.95. Robbie has the Famous price, $224.99 for 28.

So I wasn't that far off with the $8.75 price I said, but thats not the important thing I get from this. I have learned more about that CAO in 2 days than I ever could have. Great discussions, with tons of information where everybody learns something new. Thats why I glad to be part of this pass.
Thanks guys

I should have that pass waiting for me when I get home today. I will check it and get it out as soon as I can. If its here today it will go out tomorrow. I will post later with info.

This is turning out to be a great learning pass. I enjoy the constant back and forth. I cant wait for it to get to me.

Pass arrived here today safe and sound. I will post back after I check it out

Ok...I checked out the pass. All is in order and the sticks are in great shape. I have added my P's to the mix and updated the inventory spreadsheet. this is sealed up and on its way to Chester (drunkfish3) in the AM.

Oh and the beads were looking a little dry so they got a spritz before sealing it all up.

Thanks for having me in this one Greg.

Much appreciation brother.

Looks like this is my final P/Ts:

T: CAO Lx2 Lancero $6.50 / P: LFD Chisel Maduro $6.85
T: Jose Seijas Short Figurado $11.24 / P: CAO Sopranos Boss $12.24
T: Opus xXx $9.25 / P: DPG My Father Lancero $9.40
T: 601 Red Label Robusto $6.05 (Using Silo Cigars & Serious Cigars) / P: Illusiones MK $6.17
T: Opus X DC / P: Tatuaje Black

Any disagreements with these two trades?

I'm revising this a bit:

T: CAO Lx2 Lancero $6.50 / P: LFD Chisel Maduro $6.85
T: Jose Seijas Short Figurado $11.24 / P: CAO Sopranos Boss $12.24
T: Opus xXx $9.25 / P: DPG My Father Lancero $9.40
T: 601 Red Label Robusto $6.05 (Using Silo Cigars & Serious Cigars) / P: Illusiones MK $6.17

And of course the day's argument

What I'm looking for, is what the average price a cigar is selling for today. The best place to get this information is from Cigarcyclopedia, using the simple calculation to come up with an average price. However, there may be cigars that don't have much information listed there, in which case I head out to the net to try and gather information there. In the case of the CAO, there was only one vendor pricing listed on Cyclopedia, for a five pack I believe. So, I headed out to the net where I did find a couple of places with the humidor prices listed as well as a few sites with packs for sale. For this cigar, I went with the packs as there were more of the packs available than there were the full humidors, and I felt it gave a more realistic price. Those were the prices I felt more comfortable with to come up with an average price. I hope this makes sense.

alright 19 more to go...

T: CAO Lx2 Lancero $6.50 / P: LFD Chisel Maduro $6.85 so....if we're going by those prices that you think are realistic, would this trade be accepted?

Are you going to let this fly?

I was waiting to see if anyone had thoughts on my post. Humidor price? Pack price? Average of all?

T: #9 C.A.O Vision Epiphanay:
20 to a box/humidor (boxes are divided by 20):
$238.00 at Atlantic: 11.9: No rounding needed to $11.90 a stick
$252.00 at Best Cigars: 12.6: No rounding needed to $12.60 a stick
$223.50 at Bonita: 11.175: Rounding up to $11.18 a stick
$224.00 at Cigar Int’l: 11.2: No rounding needed to $11.20 a stick
$238.00 at Holts: 11.9: No rounding needed to $ 11.90 a stick

$11.90 + $12.60 + $11.18 + $11.20 + 11.90/5 = 11.756: Rounding up to $11.76 a stick

Now, I do not know how many of you know but these sticks come in nice looking humidors. How do we put that in consideration on pricing a stick? Because there is no doubt that the humidor is a factor in the price of the box. Which would make it hard to know how much a single stick really would cost. I want to hear what you guys think, as well as Greg’s thoughts.

I don't think you can discount the fancy humidor factor unless its possible to get the cigar without the humidor for a cheaper price. So if there is research you can find that shows the single stick price that can be used of course use it but it not I think you have to go with what you have. If you think about it every stick has cost built in that has nothing to do with the cigar itself. There are marketing costs, admistration, all the hands that touch it at the factory, etc. Its just that we don't think about those costs because they are not as obvious as the overly ornate humidor. I think you'll see the same with cigars that come in wooden coffins. If you can't buy them without the coffin for a cheaper price than the price is the price. Once we start discounting for true value (without the humidor or coffin or other premium) it just gets to become too subjective. Any one of us could easily say "yeah XYZ cigar has a MSRP of $15 but everyone I have ever had has been plugged or had a tight pull. So they are really only worth $10". So at some point we have to draw a reasonable line.

Having said all that, I'll double check the pricing on all your T/P's when I get home tonight David. Could be these are okay. As far as the CAO coming in a humidor, that's a very good, valid question. I think Siriusblack was correct that if there's no information out there to price the cigars without the humidor, then we have to go with the humidor with cigars price. There are GB's that go on with the humidor raffled separately, however the humidor is not separated out from the price of the cigar, at least not in the buys that I've been in. I know Jeff is having his 3rd GB on the CF22 set, however I'm almost positive he's not taking the cost of the humidor out. Is he?

Anyone else have thoughts on the equal or better rule? On the CAO humidor cost and should it be deducted from the cigars?

We had this discussion before earlier in the pass with me, I do not think we came to a clear answer which is why some of us may be confused here. Then again, I am no expert. However, it would be hard to judge what a single "really" cost if CAO or whomever does not list an MSRP for a single stick when Putting them in such a costly humidor. Although you did approve of my Puts and Takes, I am still left confused when, at the time I felt we agreed that the humidor should be a part of the total price of the stick. Which I do not agree with, but I was not going to complain when the Puts and Takes got approved.

I feel unlike, a regular box or cabinet that any sticks come in, a humidor puts more value on the sticks, but in a pass situation, no one is receiving an humidor so how is it fair to tack on more money on to the sticks when they are being influence by a humidor. The real problem is, I and I feel same with the LX2 does not have to many places, that displays what vendors are selling those sticks for on an individual basic. My .02

This may be confusing for some of you, but makes sense to me. If Something is not clear please, holla at me so I can try to reword what I wrote.
