CP's "Cigar 101" Newbie Pass 4

T: CAO Lx2 Lancero $6.50 / P: Illusiones MK $6.17
T: Jose Seijas Short Figurado $11.24 / P: CAO Sopranos Boss $12.24
T: Opus xXx $9.25 / P: DPG My Father Lancero $9.40
T: Gurkha Regent Torpedo $6.78 / P: LFD Chisel Maduro $6.85

It's worth a shot.....
T: Opus X DC / P: Tatuaje Black

Does anyone see a problem with the first T/P?

Also meant to add, how about the Opus xXx and My Father Lancero? This was one that was actually discussed recently in another pass.

The Tat Blacks were around $12 a stick (Jar release), and obviously have some rarity. The Opus DC is $15 a stick, also has rarity. Off the bat there's a $2 to $3 difference. The question is, does the Tat Black really hold that much more rarity than the Opus?

The My Father is a no go in my opinion. No rarity there at all to match the Opus. The MSRP on the Black from the Jar is higher than $12. I think its around $14 so that's definitely good in my opinion considering the Blacks rarity.

Is the Opus as rare as we all make them out to be? Yes they are not regular release, but there are a few B&M's that have them year round, people walk out with boxes, and sales here carry Opus almost every week. The DC was talked about and was decided it was more hard to come by, but almost any other size especially they smaller ones can be had all the time.

You can go online and order a box or a fiver of My Fathers at MSRP any day of the year. Most of us can't get hold of any Opus X for MSRP any day of the year. In Miami I have seen them in a couple of places. Most places that have them all year round charge a fortune. The ones that charge MSRP sell out within minutes. I can pick up a box of Opus DC today but I would have to shell out $600 and that's with the B&M owner giving me a $100 discount. Someone will eventually walk in that store and pay $700 for that box.

I'm revising this a bit:

T: CAO Lx2 Lancero $6.50 / P: LFD Chisel Maduro $6.85
T: Jose Seijas Short Figurado $11.24 / P: CAO Sopranos Boss $12.24
T: Opus xXx $9.25 / P: DPG My Father Lancero $9.40
T: 601 Red Label Robusto $6.05 (Using Silo Cigars & Serious Cigars) / P: Illusiones MK $6.17

And of course the day's argument
T: Opus X DC / P: Tatuaje Black

Greg,

when I do the numbers this is what I get

1.) I'd say No here. I get $8.75 for the CAO (box price averaged $240&$250/28) but if you add in the 5'ers and smaller lots that are available, it brings the price average to around $7.50. the Illusione MK I got $6.25, so I'd have to say no go on #1

2.) I think this ones ok. I get $11.24 on the Jose Seijas and $12.50 on the Sopranos Boss

3.) this one I have $9.25 (from MMM MSRP chart) for the Opus Power Ranger and I get $8.75 for the DPG My Father Lancero. The opus has a rarity factor, but quite honestly the DPG is not the easiest to find either. So to me this is close to being ok. If the DPG was easier to find I'd say no, but it is a little harder to come by than I expected. So this call is yours..ahahahah

4.) Gurkha @ $6.78 and LFD @ $6.82 looks ok to me

5.) Opus X DC @ $15.00 (per MMM MSRP chart) and Tat Black between $13 and $14. I think that there is rarity on both sticks and since the Blacks are not an easy stick to come by I'd say this one was ok too.

So my final count
1. No
2. Yes
3. your call but probably yes
4. Yes
5. Yes

but hey I've been wrong alot lately ;)

** edit because of updated P/T
so on the new list
1. I'd still have to say No. My math gives me either $8.75 (box MSRP) or $7.50(box+5er's average) and $6.25 for the Illusione.
2. Yes
3. Probably Yes
4. I come up with $6.27 for the 601, but its with a dime so maybe Yes on this
5. Yes

I don't see the My father being rare at all.

I honestly looked for that stick for a while and couldnt find it listed many places. then I check your links and POOF there they are. (I still have alot to learn)

Well since they are more readily available then I found I would have to say that the rarity factor is canceld on the Lancero and that makes my vote on #3 a No.

I'm revising this a bit:

T: CAO Lx2 Lancero $6.50 / P: LFD Chisel Maduro $6.85
T: Jose Seijas Short Figurado $11.24 / P: CAO Sopranos Boss $12.24
T: Opus xXx $9.25 / P: DPG My Father Lancero $9.40 Looks like this is voted out
T: 601 Red Label Robusto $6.05 (Using Silo Cigars & Serious Cigars) / P: Illusiones MK $6.17
T: Opus X DC / P: Tatuaje Black

On a separate note, I would like to point out that the above trade in red, the price I quoted for the Lx2 is the same price as it was when it was introduced to the pass by Chester, I believe. That previous P/T was accepted by the pass when he traded the Lx2 for the Illusiones CG4. I thought the prices of the sticks, once accepted by the passes were to be kept uniform. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe you are right. Once the price is quoted in the thread, I think it goes. As for the LFD Chisel. NO ONE TOUCH IT, I WANT

Just yesterday I was taking a stick that was miss priced and accepted when introduced to the pass. My P/T were no good and had to be done over again to get a stick that was of equal or greater value. It did not matter that there was a mistake in calculating the price in the past, and rightfully so.

Just because there was an error in calculating a put, should not mean that someone else gets to benefit from that by taking it and putting a lesser valued stick for it. P/T should be equal or greater in value

OK, here is my first attempt at my T/P's.

T:-Padilla Series '68 Toro $5.35 / P:-DPG Blue Label Generosos $6.63
T:-Oliva Master Blend III Torpedo $10.53 / P:-Tatuaje Reserve J 21 $11.00
T:-Partagas Decadas IV $12.00 / P:-Partagas 160 Sig Robusto Minor $12.89
T:-Camacho 10th Anniversary Toro $10.93 / P:-Davidoff Millennium Robusto Tubo $15.99

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks
John

Ah now see, this is where I get myself in trouble. I didn't do any searching on Jorel's T/P's as I already knew they were good, but had no idea that Partagas was THAT good.

Padilla '68 $5.35 / DPG $6.63 - Good
Oliva MB III $10.25 / Tat Res J21 $10.21 - .04 under, good enough
Partagas D IV $18.12 / Party 160 $15.77 - No good
Camacho 10th $10.94 / Davi Mille $16.24 - Good

OK, this was my fault also because I did not recalculate the values of previously approved p/t.. how about this one to replace the partagas D IV

T:-Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve Corojo Toro $12.04 / P:-Partagas 160 Sig Robusto Minor $15.77

My mistake. I thought it was calculated correctly.

And it could be I did not run the numbers myself, I am just stating if it is priced incorrectly that this does not mean we get to benefit from it by putting in a lesser value stick.

True. I wasn't implying that.
I went through different sites over and over again and I have yet to see a Lx2 box being sold over $150. That's what made me believe that the price given on the lancero was right. I don't believe the price that you suggested of $8.75 for the lancero is right.

It was not me who suggested the price of 8.50, I was reading along and made an observation.

Apologies. It was mrrt who suggested the price.

This is what I posted on the CAO Lancero:

4. T 66 Illusion CG4 ($6.24) P #72 CAO LX2 Lancero ($6.50)
There wasn't much info listed on Cyclpedia for these, so I went digging a little. I found $6.70 on the Illusione and $6.62 on the CAO. $.08? I think that'll work, so we're good on this one. Anyone find any other sites with pricing on the CAO?

Illusione
Best Cigar $6.20
Famous $6.16
Texcigars $7.32
Silo $6.90
Tower $6.90
Total $33.48/5 = $6.70 price

CAO Lx2 Lancero (could only find three sites)
Atlantic $6.49
Tobacco Locker $6.50
NH Cigars $6.86
Total $19.85/3 = $6.62 price

Not sure where $8.50 came from?

The $8.50 came from me. I came to that figure because I couldnt find many sites that sold the LX2 in full boxes. the couple sites you find sold the Lanceros in smaller quantities, so I didnt use them.
I did find a few full boxes, although they included a 'free humidor'. So I used those. The prices were $240 & $250 for 28 sticks, including 'free humidor'. So 240+250 /2 then /28 = $8.75 (my math still sucks).
So thats how I got my number.

So are we now using smaller quantities to figure average MSRP or do we stick to full box counts. And for the record, I still dont think anyone ever gets 'a free humidor', as evident by the pricing..ahahahaha

Let me know

Art

If there is a humidor included in the price, then the humidor needs to be assigned a value and subtracted from the per stick average.
