Cigarbid

I kind of shy away from CI/Cbid as I have had multiple orders that smelled like mold and either got a refund or replacement. I guess it may still be ok as their customer service has been great. Just make sure to give your orders a sniff check. If it smells like old socks locked in a musty basement....send them back.

In my newbie meanderings I've had a couple good auctions at Cigarauctioneer.com, run by Famous Smoke Shop. Cigarbid seems like the most popular one so maybe you're more likely to see people overbidding there vs. cigarauctioneer. I got a 7-cigar Patel sampler for $12 recently, which made me happy.

Just my $.02.

As others have mentioned, Cigarbid has it's uses as long as you do your research and show restraint & discipline! I'd recommend signing up and then just lurk for a while to get a feel for what different lots go for. When I'm looking to pick up a 5'er to try something new, I use the "Watch this Lot" tracking feature for a week or 2 and see what it typically goes for. A lot of times the bidding gets so out of hand it's not even worth trying, but you'll save a few bucks here and there, especially when they post the bigger lots on special (usually a good way to grab a whole bunch of yardgars and cheaper $1-$2 smokes).

If you knew who that quote was attributed too and why, you MIGHT understand.

Search turned up nothing... care to enlighten us?

It was a statement made in person. And no...
Then what's your point in making the initial post if you don't care to enlighten us on it's meaning? Don't you feel like you'd be doing some people a favor if there's a specific reason for not ordering from them, or is it hearsay that can't be backed up or just your bad experience?

Yeah tandblov ... your posts come off as being a bit snotty, and for no reason. I hope that was not your intention. And, like others I too am interested in not only the basis for your opinions but the source of the quote as well.

tandblov-
I apologize to you. Obviously being a newb I did not know there was a history behind that comment. I will learn to keep my mouth shut. Sorry.

Well, I'm not naming names, but it was a prominent figure in the industry. I have learned through my experience that the cigar industry is very small. If something is said by industry people, it can come back to harm them or sour relationships in the future. I won't be a part of that.

However I think the sentiment of that quote is solid and pretty witty. That is why I used it.

No one need defend themselves for using it. It's your money. I don't care one way or another. I have learned that I prefer to support small shops and their owners with my purchases. I prefer to avoid JR and CI. I could care less about "winning" cigars. Their selection and prices don't appeal to me. I also don't shop at Walmart, eat at McDonalds, or go to Starbucks.

There is always the skunk at the garden party. I guess that's me. I expressed my opinion, that is all.

Aww now why hate on Sbux!?

(Just kidding....I work for em that is all :)...I don't mind if you express your opinions though)

As for supporting small shops- If I weren't a college student and had the income to support them more, I certainly would...hell, not waiting for cigars to be shipped would be awesome!! but for me right now...everything is about saving $ when you're in my shoes...so for now, my B&M can wait...they suck anyways  (they have a stupid 21+over smoking policy...f`ers!)

Well, no you didn't. You expressed somebody else's opinion which while you may place credence in it, it is in reality hearsay to the rest of us.

Cigarbid...

"Where cigars go to die"

I never saw the point of ordering from them or CI.

Please, do tell...who spoke this quote?

As far as it being from someone in the industry and being worried that it may come back at them...maybe they shouold not have said it. I'm sure the person knew exactly what he/she was saying and the implications.

You are already part of 'that', simply by restating what was said.
If the person has to now hide because of words he/she used, or the 'industry' in intolerant....then that speaks volumes of him/her and the 'industry'. People I may not want to deal with....or may!

All the posts about doing your homework and getting addicted are right on! I managed to ween myself at about 200 sticks. You also need to plan on drooping them in your humi for at least a month. My last purchase was some "Slainte Single-Malt Scotch Tubos" right before Mardi gras. I took a couple down to share with my brother and when we torched them they went up like hay. We had a half inch of ash in just a few minutes and that's as far as we got. I really believe that if we had thrown them on the ground without knocking of the fire they would have burned up :(

I agree 100% with grateful1

I'm just now attempting to wean myself off of CBid and others. Luckily I almost kept with my strategy of 25% of internet sales price and never look at the MSRP. But, unfortunately I may have to build another coolidor to house my last few shipments. :whistling:

TWAS' ME!!!! I SAID IT!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

It got touchy in here for a little bit, :rawr:

As far as the real topic of this thread, before "quoting people in the cigar industry" took over, I have not won anything on Cigarbid.com yet, and have a bid on three lots, and I am afraid that the addiction has begun...

I'm going to go "look" at the Cigarauctioneer.com website... My wife is so leaving me....!

Yeah the thread got hijacked.

I do fear when I start bidding on the site though. I think I may be in the same position as you.

Well, she IS from Michigan, so when she goes back there after she's left me, I'll let you know and maybe you can intercept her at Detroit INternational and talk some sense to her! :sign: :sign: :sign:

I've had some great luck on Cbid. You can routinely pick up 5'ers of La Aurora 1495s for 17-21 (well below what you'd pay otherwise) and I got a 5'er of RP 1990 Toros for $13 a while back. Not bad if you ask me. I also picked up a few La Aurora Preferidos Tubos for $7-9 a piece. Cool site for those of you who know what these products go for and can distinguish good deals from bad. Also cheap place to get Graycliffs.

I just won an auction where I paid $11 bucks for 5 RP Vintage 1990s...pretty happy with that.

On the other hand, I saw an auction where a box of 1964 Padrons MSRP at somethign like $350, and the current winning bid was $700 even.

IDIOTAS!!!
