Weird because the U.S. came into the tournament ranked 5th in the world. Their performance doesn't live up to that ranking.

Great game by Italy though! Off to a nice start with the 2-0 win!
 
I think the US choked. The stress got to them. I expect a diffrent team when they play the Azzurri. They won't beat them, but Italy won't have a cake walk either.

DevilDoc will you 100% behind Italy if they beat the US on Saturday? Another U.S. loss and they'll be as good as out of the 2nd round.

I agree completely. I think they choked. They are not that bad but definately not as good as their bogus Fifa ranking. The game against Italy on Sat. is all or nothing for them. They need at least a tie if not a win to have a chance against a very tough Italian team. I am optomistic that we will play better but a win or even a tie is a tall order.

I have watched all of the matches so far. I am a huge England Fan.

The England v. Trinidad Tobago match was not the best but awesome nevertheless.

Being married to an Englishwoman defaults my allegiance to the English team. Good showing today from the Liverpudlians. I just don't understand why Sven doesn't just play Beckham out wide all the time. Gerrard and Lampard can take care of the middle, Becks needs to stay wide right and provide those incredible crosses to Crouch. With his height and both Beckham's and Rooney's crossing abilities, England should be scoring with ease. That Crouch goal from a Beckham cross should be a common occurance.

I hope that Rooney gets in more during the next match. I think that England is going to turn it on for the next match. If they can get it together I see them going much further than some would believe.

I hope Sven rests Rooney and several others for the Sweden match. They're through to the next round, so better to rest the stars and keep them from getting injured. The good thing for them is that both Germany and Ecuador play before them and they can decide whether to go the next round as group winners or as runner-up.

Rooney has to get more game minutes or he is going to have a hard time in the Knockout Stage.
 
for you Futbol fanatics, can someone tell me why players seem to be "hurt" when they get the slightest love tap? One guy gets pushed, he falls and a foul is called, he then acts hurt, walks off the field for ten seconds and then sprints back on. Is there a strategy I don't know about in this?

The man is a monster. Everytime he gets on the field, he gives it 100% (or as an athelete would say "110%"). He's like Ken Griffey Jr., he gives no thought to life or limb when he plays. He is so good that when he's on the pitch, he's the player that gets fouled the most. He's 20 and he'll be match fit no matter when Sven puts him in. Right now, he needs to be protected for the knockout stage. If he plays, I think he should only play the first half, before Sweden gets desperate and start tackling on every English posession.
