WOW

Maybe this one is more appropriate after reading your attack on AVB.

ya know, i didn't read the rules, so shoot me. Now i know. If i've offended anyone by my link and remarks, sorry, it was not intended. Funny, this went 3 pages before anyone told me i was breaking a rule.

And Gonz, i stand by my remarks, you didn't have to throw me such a pointed pm. Here's an example of what you could have sent

Hey Gator, you're breaking a rule by posting a link, be better if you removed that link. Thanks.

but that's just me, we do things a little more politely down here.

That said, i'm not attacking you personally, i just took exception to your pm, chief (your words)

i'm done here, again, sorry to the 'innocent bystanders'

You call the way you behave polite? If you're going to get "polite" with everyone that tries to help you, you're not going to find this an enjoyable place for much longer. You still haven't apologized to AVB for your last little bit of "politeness" , and now you imply that you're not going to apologize to Gonz either (further insulting him with that snarky and immature "sorry to the 'innocent bystanders'" comment). There are plenty of other cigar boards on the net that will gladly put up with your "polite" attitude whenever someone tries to keep you from getting yourself in trouble - this is not one of them.

I missed that. AVB is highly regarded here at CigarPass. Gator, none of us are perfect. This is a great community to learn about cigars and enjoy wonderful camraderie with very knowledgable BOTLs/SOTLs.

Apologies to Gonz and AVB would go a long way to restoring your reputation here.

....or am I incorrect?

I'm surprised that someone didn't point this out earlier, particularly in the new climate of purchasing Habanos.

Cuban cigars are not "illegal" for people in Canada (like me  )or anywhere else in the world for that matter.

Show off :D

Back in '98 Cuba increased their production from around 100 million cigars to 160 million cigars. When this happened there was great concern that the increases would ruin the quality of the cigars and with the new rollers, new plantations, the product would not be up to par. I remember reading quite a bit about unattractive wrappers, blends that all tasted the same, tightly rolled, mistakes on boxes, etc.

However, they solved the tobacco shortage and the new tobacco crop was very good and the wrapper leaf was of very high quality. Did the increase in production produce some cigars that were inferior, yes. But at the same time they also produced cigars that were some of the highest quality in years.

Since many of the cigars were made with young filler tobacco, many cigar smokers after smoking them thought they were inferior, but now that the cigars have had a chance to mature, many are realizing that many of cigars are quite good. The key to getting the right cigars from '98 or any other year is to buy from certain factories. The factories outside Havana have long had a reputation for making inferior cigars since they usually use all the tobacco given them. This is nothing new...

I would highly recommend that the buyer do some research into the cigars that they wish to acquire. If one doesn't there is a good chance they will receive a box that the vendor just wants to move. Ask them to open and inspect the boxes and be sure to let them know your personal preferences. And if you have a good relationship, ask them what they recommend. If you are new, ask long term cigar smoker for help.

It is easy to say that a '92 box of cigars is better than a '98, but how many people are going to be able to afford the older ones on a regular basis. If at all...

Everyone that has been smoking for some time has certain years that they prefer for there own reasons. Bottom line...there are good cigars from every year. One just has to know how to find them...:)

Excellent, excellent post!

For me, I'd have to say that 2003 was quite good and 2006 has turned out to be very enjoyable right out of the gate. Thank goodness they don't qualify for "vintage" pricing. :p

Wilkey

If someone didn't tell me to look here I would have missed this since usually you do this stuff in the thread where it occured.

Apology accepted but be aware that you have raised your profile here in the community and not in a good way.

ok, sorry Gonz and AVB.

Just a simply question for whoever knows... Why are links not allowed but Ad Banners are?

CC,

Welcome to the great white north... I hope you're enjoying freezing your balls off :D :D

Thank you, Cape Breton Island is a very nice place!

I now have to start talking about temperatures in degrees Celsius now which is even more depressing. It's -11C right now in Nova Scotia which actually isn't a whole lot colder than in Connecticut where it's 22F right now which is -5C, OH I MEAN down there, yeah that's it.
