Who Here has Held the Rank of E-7

I was enlisted for 14 years and an officer for the rest, I was an 0311 (infantry) 0341(81mm Mortar),volunteered for recon for a few years, crossed over to the airwing and was an Intel officer where I worked with Marine artillery, aviation, naval gunfire, and about anything else that threw crap downrange. Even got to do some ATACMS target planning in Desert Storm even though the Army didn't (ahem!) have any in theater.

Were you infantry??

I did some airial adjustment for awhile. I quickly realized that I needed to do it on the ground. I needed to have the guns and target fixed to my position to do it good. It was extremely difficult calling in adjustments trying to figure out where the gun target line was after every round. It is that three dimension thing I never had down. It figured about the ATACMS. The army is slow in a lot of respects.

Not sure what a E-7 is but as a civilian I usually interact with MG's, COL's, and LTC's

That is too bad. You must not be very important because an E-7 is way above a COL or LTC. It is the equivalent to a MG or higher. An E-7 does twice as much work as the COL or LTC. To the soldier, sailor or airmen he is their life, blood, and soul. Sorry.

Yep just to confirm what every body said, E-7 for 6 years!

Curiousity has really got me!

Glad to see so many military people here, all serving!

Not that there is any thing wrong with Ludwig!!

I'm almost sorry I asked. :D

This may be premature, as I won't know anything until June, and then I'll be in the desert. Rest assured, I'll let y'all know, and mail out the celebratory sticks when I get back.

At least I'll have time to amass some decent stuff to send out.

I got out after one re-up as an E-6. As others have said, I'd do it all over again!

Edit to add: I had the best name a soldier could have in the service... Sergeant Hawk!

I got one for ya. The Chief Psychiatrist at Philly Naval Hosp., while I was stationed there, was Capt. Strange. No shit.

Doc.

My youngest brother was an enlisted man in the US Navy, Submariner, for 18 years. He had made it to E-6 and tested for E-7. Before he got the results, he passed on. We found out later that he would have made it. :(
