The History of Confusion
Confusion by New Order was the follow up single to their massive hit Blue Monday. Originally released in August of 1983 as a about 3:50 version mixed by Arthur Baker. That hit #1 on the Indie charts and #12 on the Pop/Rock chart in the UK, It also charted across most of Europe and hit #5 here on the club chart. There were 3 different versions on the 12" single. Confusion and Confusion Beats on the A side and Confusion Rough Mix, Confusion Instrumental or Confusion Beats on the B side. Confusion and Confusion Beats were designed to be played non-stop back to back as one 14+ minute song. Confusion Rough Mix was actually the single version mixed by New Order before Arthur Baker redid it.
So one would think that was the end of it. Not so. In 1987 the band re-recorded Confusion and Confusion Instrumental for the compilation album Substance. Not done yet in 1995 the song reappeared on the remix collection The Rest of New Order as perhaps the most recognized acid-techno song ever in the Pump Panel remix. That remix was used in 1998's Blade movie in the Vampire Disco with Moby spinning the tunes. Samples from The Pump Panel remix Moby remixed into 3 other song on the soundtrack album. Still not done the Rough Mix was re-edited for 2005' Singles album an lastly in 2016 the Pump Panel remix was edited for a 7" promo for the re-release of the Singles album
