Merry Christmas to everyone here at CP. I hope you have a great one giving and getting.

The title explains it all, what did you get this year for Christmas that stood out amongst all your other gifts (if there is a tie, I understand). Also wondering what was the best gift you gave.

I would love to start it off, but I have not opened my gifts yet! :whistling:

The best gift I received? The look on my baby girl's face when she stepped into the living room this morning.

I'm ambivalent about sharing this with you guys, because I was moved to tears and had to leave the room when I opened my 35 yr old daughter's present. I never thought she paid much attention to what I did in the Navy. As a mater of fact, I thought she resented my being away from home so much, when she needed me most. Anyway, It was a well printed and framed copy of this:

A CORPSMAN'S LAMENT

I remember fair-haired dreamers,
full of themselves, going off to war.We went willingly with visions of heroism in our head.
We felt prepared for what was to come.

Then, they opened the door to let reality in:
fear, blood and the smell of death.

All around us were cries for “Doc.”
Who should we help?

I tend to the first, second and third:
bandages, morphine, plasma and more.

No time for me to feel or think.
Keep moving, keep helping; don’t sleep.

Then they bring him all battered, near death.
I can’t save him.

I look into his eyes and want to cry.
“Doc it’s okay; let me go.”

I ignore his words; I try.
This man who looks like me . . . he dies.

Tears flow down my cheeks.
No time to grieve, five others lay at my feet.

That day stays with me still.
I shall never forget his words.

“It’s okay, Doc.
Let me go.”

With his last breath,
he comforted me.

Khari, does your wife have any sisters?

Greg, I gotta agree with you. The look on my kids' faces are the best thing I could possibly ask for.

Well I am doing Christmas late (visiting family this evening) so I havent gotten many gifts yet BUT...my mom did pay for me to get new glass block windows in my basement to finish off my Man Cave project. They will be installed next week. You cant beat that with a stick!

UPDATE: Ended up with a gift card for a day at the spa (hey us tough guys needs pampering to). Got some good cologne and get this a Opus X Love StoryAffair and an Opus Pussy Cat. I hadnt heard of the latter before but sure enough it was the rare vitolas site. Me and my lady friend have a good relationship with one of the sales reps down at Holts in Philly. So I guess she was able to get a few of these. It was real surpise to say the least.

The kids excitement first and foremost.

However, for myself a Leatherman two pack that had the Kick and Micra in it.

Home Depot gift cards, booze, golf putter (via gift card), beer brewing set up and a bunch of little but very useful things. I think the coolest one was a crystal shot glass my sister got for me in Scotland. Its perfect for drinking all of the whiskey i got!

The look on my son's face when he saw the Eastern BMX trick bike he thought he had no chance of getting since my wife's been out of work for 14 months. It's amazing how when you become a parent, Christmas is just as exciting as when you were a kid....only that excitement is watching your childs face when the see what they have gotten.

As for material things, I got a nice point-and-shoot digital camera (my other cameras are too bulky to take for casual events), some clothing, a nice down insulated parka from Cabelas for camping, but for me the greatest part was spending time with my nephew and seeing him smile and continue to be a knowledge sponge! Merry Christmas to you all, and happy holidays to those who don't celebrate!

Also, Doc, I nearly shed a tear as well!

My best gift was my wife's face when she opened her gift this year.

When she was a kid, she carried a Mrs. Beasley doll everywhere she went for years. She spent a decent amount of time in the hospital when she was little and this doll was with her every day. She carried the thing until the head came off and they couldn't fix it.

I haven't seen her cry from opening a gift since we got engaged over twenty-five years ago. Her mom and sister started crying when they heard about it.

I can't believe it took me this long to think about giving this as a gift.

Santa brought me some sweet gifts this year! My favorite is a toss-up between my new Nikon L100 and that bear-hunting knife with the sweet OD Green handle! Oh, and the T110's are pretty boss as well...

Doc.

I'm a pipe smoker; my wife gave me a tobacco sampler with about 20 kinds of tobacco. It's been a good day!

All these stories of watching ones kids open their gifts that morning! Really sweet...not for me yet, but one day soon.

For me, my girl and I are away from home (on the other side of the country) so it has been wonderful to spend time with her and watching as she opened her gifts. spending time her and I means the world to me, it helps her realize that we are building a family together.

As far as gifts, we bought a couch a month or so ago and that was our main gift, but she did get me some nice clothes; but the best was watching her open her gifts like her snuggie :sign: and the new mario bros. for the Wii (yes, she loves it....lucky me)

Honestly, the best gift of all was having family over to fill up all the seats around my big farmhouse dining table . . . when I bought this house a year and a half ago, the first thing I bought was a big honkin' gas grill, and the second thing was that table, big enough for all of us to sit around. Feels really good, all the way down, to pile it up with food and see everyone around it, what's left of us since Dad passed in '01. Good stuff.

I got the two golfs clubs that I wanted from my Dad. Can't wait to go to the golf dome tomorrow and try them out.

I received a few items and probably the best is the new Humidor that I got!

But the greatest gift was the kids face with the simple gifts they received. It is amazing that we can spend hundreds of dollars on bikes, fake cats and games, but it is the 5 dollar gift that amazes them the most. My son is having so much fun shooting his nerf gun and getting the darts to stick to things. I have never heard him laugh sooooo hard! And my daughter like the new color blend markers that she received. She must have sat there for more then 3 hours coloring pictures.

Now if I could get them to clean up the mess! hahahaha yeah right!

Merry Christmas everyone!

No way! :D I did a similar thing here for my wife who also had a "turbulent" childhood and this was the doll that she loved dearly. She opened the box when it arrived a couple weeks ago, was a truly touching moment. We wrapped it up and gave it to Jess for Christmas. Not sure if anyone out there also remembers the Drowsy doll that's in my wife's lap.

She's got a sister but she's 11.

It was actually the in-laws who got me the Ashtons. Pretty sweet!

Doc, I was never in the military so I can't begin to imagine what you went through, but the poem well captures what it might have been like. It's pretty easy to see why it might have moved you so.

Santa was pretty good to me this year, my favorite gift from my parents is a toss up between a Garmin GPS and a Odyssey putter. I think my favorite gift overall was a humidor and cigars from my girlfriend. She kind of just bought me some random samplers from famous-cigars, but its the thought that counts. Also its a nice start to my collection
