Training Wheels Pass - FNG pt deux

Here are my proposed P&T I've run them by the boss, if there are no complaints, I'll get this thing turned quickly.

Take 25) El Rey Del Mundo - Demi Tasse - FR NOSO - 1990 (P: Blue Dragon - T: )
Put 86) Cohiba SigIII BYL Nov05

Take 85) Punch - Black Prince NOV00 (P: vin# - T: )
Put 88) Montecristo LE06 robusto PUT ABR06

Thanks for the pass Cory.

Not trying to start anything here, but I am very curious about the age issue on these cigars. After reading the sticky at the top of the pass forum, I'm curious to hear your insight on the age issue of these cigars.

Hey Cory here are my proposed P&T and the reasoning behind them.

Take 25) El Rey Del Mundo - Demi Tasse - FR NOSO - 1990 (P: Blue Dragon - T: )
Put Cohiba SigIII BYL Nov05

I figured the ERDM at $4 for current stock (4*.05)*17=3.4 3.4+4= $7.40 SigIII @$250 per 25 $10ea

Take 50) La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Lancero (P: Phlicker - T: )
Put Avo LE 07

The lancero can be had for $9, but $10 is more likely. I bought the Avo's for $211 for 20 from JimD, $10.55ea

Take 85) Punch - Black Prince NOV00 (P: vin# - T: )
Put Montecristo LE06 robusto PUT ABR06

I found a box of Black prince Date code UTCC for 275, or $11 per I paid 385 for the Monte's or $15.4 ea

Matt
The above is the PM I sent Cory. I wanted those two cigars, and frankly all I could do was throw much more expensive sticks at them to cover the age premium. My reasoning and math is above. As to why Cory feels this is a good trade for him, I'm sure he will answer as well.

I checked over everything, and here's an update on the cigars.

15) K.Hansotia (Gurkha) Symphony - Churchill Cracked wrapper around head.
60) AVO Piramide Natural Small crack on the foot.
65) Ashton Cabinet Belicoso Small crack on the foot.
73) H Upman Reserve 6x50 Wrong number. 72 => 73
78) Carlos Torano Virtuoso Encore Cracked wrapper.
79) Don Pepin Blue Exclusivo Crack on the foot. I'm not sure why this one was in double plastic sleeves, but I put it in a zip baggie.

I'm quite surprised. 1 or 2 things might be unavoidable, but this is a lot. It looks like the cigars are moving around a bit in the tupperware so more padding is in order. Who's slacking here...
Thanks for the update vin#! That does suck, having cigars get damaged in transit (hopefully it was in transit), but it does happen. Vin#, only you can say if the box showed up not packed firmly this go round. Again I stress to all to add packing inside the box to make sure the cigars don't move around at all. Give the tupperware and then the box a firm shake before you ship it off. If it sounds like there is any movement, add more packing.

This is a Newbie pass with the intent of getting your feet wet. Chalk this up to a lesson to be learned and what to avoid down the road. At the next stop, lets figure out if any of these should be marked as untradable. I'm not sure how small "small" is. mmburtch, can you take/post pics?

And I am assuming you relabled the H.Upmann to say 73?

Thanks!

I would still trade for these:

60) AVO Piramide Natural
65) Ashton Cabinet Belicoso
79) Don Pepin Blue Exclusivo

Pictures would have definitely help here. I didn't know why I didn't think about it. The biggest foot crack was on the Don Pepin Blue at 1/2". The others probably had 1/4" cracks. Honestly, I don't think they are that bad. You can definitely still smoke them. I figured it's better to say something than not to.

I think these are not tradeable:

15) K.Hansotia (Gurkha) Symphony
78) Carlos Torano Virtuoso Encore

The cracks are pretty big here. I think they are big enough to make it hard to smoke.

I did relabeled the H. Upmann to 73.

You kept a copy of your PM .. nice. :)

Please feel free to ask any questions. That is the purpose of this pass, to learn. I also had the intent of letting you guys start to think about ISOMs and age in a pass. There are a couple different ways to think about age. Earlier in the pass I threw out a couple ways to evaluate age in a monetary sense. However, typically an aged ISOM will smoke a lot better than a newer ISOM. So throwing another stick in that has age on it might be preferable.

And as I said, this is a learning pass. So that is some good food for thought, and as you try different cigars you can think about these things and make your own conclusions. For the purposes of this pass, I didn't expect anyone to have any ISOMs from '90 and I want you guys to be able to trade for whatever is in there. :)

Another thing that crossed my mind is that the LE '06 cigars have a wrapper that is supposed to be aged 3-5 years. I smoked the PSD LE recently and it was amazing. I'm sort of hoping the Monte will make it back home. :whistling:

vin#, did we ever get a DC for this?

mmburtch, when this lands, can you look over all 5 sticks listed, and if you concur, then we'll pull those too.

Thanks guys!

And their little friends too!

This guy just showed up about half an hour ago. I need to inspect those sticks for you Cory and wait for your decissions. It will be a couple of hours before I can get to them.

Next question. Shipping to Beaucredo is one day, so if I get it out tomorrow, it sits at the PO until Monday. If I ship on Monday, it gets delivered on Tuesday. Which is preferred? Which works best for you Leo? I could probably meet you half way on Sunday if that works for you, LMK

Damn... this thing is flying! Just checked the list.... nice work guys!

I can meet you somware on Sunday. Is there a nice BM near you that we could meet at?

Alright, here is the dreaded damage post. Photos of the damage can be seen HERE.

I concur with Vin's assesment as to smokability and tradeability. #60, 65 and 79 are in OK shape and I personally would buy them in the abscence of a perfect stick. #15,78 and new arival #74 are going to require repair or great patience on the part of the smoker.

I placed all six damaged sticks along with the quarantined #80 in a separate bag. If someone wants to trade for them, they will find them there.

On a packing note, and not to point any fingers, I took four cigars out (Thanks Vin#) and put six cigars in. I replaced all of the packing that was in the tupperdor when I opened it and gave it a good shake. It moved! The lid of the tupperdor should be as tight to close as your wifes suitcase on a five day trip. It is likely that movement was the culprit in these sticks getting damaged, so this is a good lesson for us all. Don't assume that what was there when you opened it will be enough when you close it.

Ok Cory, here are the final puts anf takes for me.

T 25) ERDM DT
P 86) Cohiba Sig III BYL NOV 05

T 50) LFD DL L
P 87) Avo LE 07

T 85) Punch BP
P 88) Montecristo LE 06 PUT ABR06

P 87) Nat Sherman 1400 Palma Grande Maduro

P 88) Fuente Don Carlos #3

Thanks for letting me play.

More damage? Looks like I messed up somewhere. :(

I was wondering, when looking for damage are we allowed to take out the sticks from the baggie? Maybe just the ones with the cellophane?

BTW, great pics mmburtch!

Thanks man! After looking at the pics 15, 78, and 79 are toast; I don't want anyone to trade for them. 65 and 79 are up to your discretion. And I don't really see an issue w/ 60; it looks like cutting the cigar to smoke it would remove that fray. But maybe I can't see it very well. Let's keep an eye on 60, 65, 79. If they get worse, let's pull them as well.

Nice analogy, btw.

Usually you don't want to take any of the cigars out of the baggies unless you are trading for them. This might be a little different since we are trying to assess if any of the sticks are damaged, but you should be able to see through the baggie fairly well w/o having to take the cigars out. The reasoning behind this principle is that the more the cigars are handled, the greater the chance some damage might come to one. .. accidentally dropped, catching the foot on the side of the baggie as you are putting it back, etc.

P's and T's look good! Thanks for playing!
