smoking in winter...heating required!

 at the thought of Wilkey wearing these...

Hey,

I actually own a red woolen union suit. Got it at LL Bean some years back when we used to go to bed and breakfasts in Vermont and New Hampshire. Best damned jammy on the planet for cold climates. If it only had attached booties it'd be perfect!

Down here in Tampa, I just head for the garage or wear a jacket on those rare cold evenings. However, when I lived in Illinois, I often just bundled up and dealt with the weather. At times I would use my fire pit (outdor fireplace) but that probably woudn't work too well for you on your balcony. I like what Wurm suggested; that looks quite nice.

HAHAHAHA - exactly the responses I expected! With good merit though, some of you guys are seriously hardcore and/or nuts!

I know it isn't "cold" compared to you all up north and in the east, but cold here is still cold to me, I guess its relative to what you're used to. Lets just say I am freakin' spoiled!
But hey, it can get into the 40's here at night, you know?! :whistling:

Forget the heater -Time to bust out the parka and mittens I suppose.

Thanks guys, I got a serious laugh outta your responses. Nothing like some perspective, eh!

@ Kingantz - maybe the header should read that!
You're all right, Hobs. Stick around. :D

My buddy in So-Cal has the one Wurm listed...he loves it.

Oh - this one is what I have (along with an electric 220 shop heater ) in my garage.

The Mr Heater Big Buddy takes the chill out..and has a fan. It's great for closed areas...the other one is probably a better radiant heater for a deck or balcony

Heater

I know you said electric, but these work grerat.

Throw a lot of heat, very easy to use and very compact.

I know other places sell them, this link is just for the visual.

Just a thought for you.

cold... in southern California... um...

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!?!?!

Note the 'white stuff' on the ground... I wish I had your 'cold temperatures' young buck!!

Might I suggest a firepit? The heaters are so blah and no fun. Nothing like the snap crackle and pop of real wood burning. I'm getting one myself, to ward off the SUB ZERO temps I have to deal with in Alaska...

Welcome to CP by the way

What Swissy said!

I enjoyed a smoke and beer this evening and it was a balmy 35 degrees outside. Coldest I have smoked in was flat zero degrees (colder if you factor in the wind) during the Fur Rondy last year. Buddy and I went to the fur auction and enjoyed a smoke while there.

Maduros hold up better than natural in freezing temps. Also, Tats are pretty tasteless at 20 degrees and below.

ARE ALL YOU GUYS KIDDING ME !

GROW A PAIR AND SMOKE IN YOUR HOUSE!

GET AN AIR CLEANER IF THAT WILL MAKE HER HAPPY!

I don't want to smoke in my house. It has nothing to do with my "pair." I would just rather keep the smoke outdoors. The scenery is much better out there than anything on television. Does my wife appreciate my choice? Yes. Does she demand it? No. Would she ever demand that I do anything against my wishes or impose her will on me? No, she wouldn't, just as I would never demand/impose of her against her wishes.

Why are you shouting?

I agree 100 %.
I will add... I am sure Swissy has a "pair" as you put it, which may well put you to shame bro...... :whistling:

x2... don't even get me started.

It's not about 'growing a pair'... it's about respect. I'll leave it at that, and give you something to think about.

Anyone else find it enjoyable to smoke in the car, heater on, while its parked in the driveway... ???

Yeah, I thought it sounded crazy too... then I tried it. Despite the occaisonal eye from the neighbor, like you are doing something illegal, its pretty damn practical.

mac

edited to add... TOB-RO... Why are you shouting????

I have a house all to myself and an occasional guest. I don't smoke in the house during the winter because I don't like yesterday's cigar smoke residue. Of course during warmer days I will put on the whole house fan, crack a window, and have the whole gang over. Whole house fans are the best.

I never smoke in the garage, though, anymore. It feels outcasty somehow. I will smoke in my truck, where I can regulate the airflow, its just perfect for tasting your cigar. And of course the local shop---what could be better than that?

If I wanted to smoke one outside, which I don't do often just because there is often too much air movement taking away my smoke, I would use layers, enough to be comfortable.

Why are you shouting?

Oh man, these guys just can't feel our pain Hobbs, I know where your coming from  . I'm a native NorCal guy and while we don't get the extreme temperature swings that other parts of the Country deal with I'd love to see some of these wimps deal with the liberals and COL (cost of living) that we do here in the Golden State

But enough of that ...... I use a Bernzomatic patio heater similar to the one pictured when the ladies come out to the courtyard to enjoy a smoke with the guys.

Put on a coat and find one of those heaters with the fan from Lowes. Most last a year or two. When they break it's usually the cheap plastic switches that go. The heater element last longer. For 20 or 30 bucks not bad. Or just go to your locale B&M.

X3. My wife and I both smoke....outside exclusively. Our home is pleasant for guests, and we prefer it. I could smoke in the garage if I felt like it, but frankly I rather enjoy the outside when I choose to unwind with a smoke....

My "pair" is fine, healthy, and used for far more significant issues, my friend.

Food for thought - B.B.S.

@NorCal - tell me about it!!!! I live and work with SoCal modern-day yuppies/hipsters who think they are all golden gods, plus I work in the filmmaking business!!! Nothing but drama and ego. California sure has its share of weirdos, eh? I wont even go into the political side of Cali.... :whistling:

I'm sorry this thread turned negative at one point guys. I guess some guys are just too macho; with all the shouting...

Thanks for all your suggestions. Some of these heaters would probably take up my entire balcony!!! I guess I would be warm though....

For a small area, I'd think something like this would be the bomb.

I still think you're a weenie, though....... :p

Cheers - B.B.S.
