As long as we're discussing P&T protocol, I get to put my $00.02 in.....

I agree with Gary 100% and equal value for equal value is the expectation.  Plain and simple, that's the way it's done.  However...the final say should always be the guy who started the pass.  Why...??

Maybe I know the guy that started the pass, and I want to crush him a little with an over put.  Or maybe one of the players is a good friend of the pass starter, wants a HTF stick, and suggests an under puts of a little bit...and maybe that's OK with the guy that started the pass.  In all cases, the pass starter should be the final arbiter.  Hey, his smokes, his pass, his rules.....right..??

In any event, we all know what's expected, but exceptions can and should be thought through.  This is a hobby, and we're supposed to be having fun, last time I checked..... ;)

As they say, one man's opinion...B.B.S.
I agree with you for the most part.  I think we always want to stay close when possible.  My personal opinion has always been that I'm not sweating a put/take that's off by .50-$1.   While most sticks are priced in a fairly close range, a few pennies here or there never bothers me.    If someone is over putting by $3 on every stick, then yes it's an issue.    I look at them as $8-10-12 sticks, and don't break them all the way down to $11.37 vs $12.23.   But, ultimately it's the pass hosts call.

As a wise man says, one man's opinion.

Well said Sneedly...but then again, a $1.00 over-Put done by 7 people turns an $8 cigar into a $15.00 cigar.

While it's inevitable that a Pass will increase in value as it moves along, over-Putting on a consistent basis will make the trades for the guys downstream more difficult. As a group, we are all very generous people and will err on the side of wanting to give more than we receive...try to keep the 'giving' to a minimum and keep the 'bombing mentality' out of the Pass. Please try to keep that one critical point in mind when doing your P&Ts and attempt to stay as close as possible with what you have in your humidor.

While disappointing, sometimes the cigar you want just doesn't work with anything you presently own, I've been in that position may times with a Pass. If that's the case, move on to another cigar and don't trade for that particular stick you can't match up to price-wise. Also guys, keep in mind, just because some members do 4 or 5 P&Ts doesn't mean you have to do the same. If all you can do it one or two P&Ts...that's perfectly fine as long as the Pass Host doesn't mind.

While the point of a Pass is to grab a cigar you may not have smoked before, the ultimate goal is to create deeper friendships with those members participating in that Pass. Once this common bond has been established, the phone calls ensue, group buys occur between the members, and more frequent herfs happen...all because of a rolled up piece of tobacco! Pretty cool stuff. Case in point...through many previous Passes, that's how we've all come to dislike Sneedly with such love & affection.

Final thought, if you want to bomb/over-PUT the Pass, do it as a 'stand alone' PUT with no TAKE.

Sorry for the lack of updates gents, this flew today:
9114901230801272620255
This should hit Wed, Ceasar.

Alan and I had a good time despite screwed up parking and the pub we wanted to visit not posting the correct opening hours. As Gary mentioned above, I snagged some cigars I hadn't had before, but the time I got to spend hanging out with Alan was the real highlight.

Cigars were smoked.
Beers were drank.
Conversations included but were not limited to:
Cigars, beers, distilling, cigars, Aggies, beer cheese soup, Aspergers syndrome, beers, propane smokers, man caves, bunkers, moonshine, Brunswick stew, deer hunting, cigars, growing up in the country, beers, processing deer, pickling vegetables, the death penalty, cigars, coonass rum, the Houston Cigar Fest, and family.
Its a shame we live almost 3 hours apart, but I'm looking forward to when we get a chance to meet up again.

As Joe said,we had a great time and enjoyed some good cigars, several dark beers and great conversation! Now thanks to Joe, I need a new beer wishlist, he completely destroyed my current list!

Thanks for the great beer sir!

Pass arrived. Plastic tub for pass has bottom corner with a cracked piece. Vets box is OK. Humidity is OK, boveda pack is still good. Await instructions regarding pass box. I can put contents into large zip locks. With puck in one and boveda in other.

C

Pass fits all in large ziplock with puck hygrometer and boveda pack. Bubble wrap plus should keep it safe in transit from here forward. I will wait instruction, for now contents are safe and humidified. Will work on puts and takes.

C

I will leave guidance on the pass box to those more experienced with passes than I. ???

If at any point someone believes the plastic tubs or box need to be replaced, I will paypal them the costs for doing so. Also, if there is an issue with any of the original cigars I will mail replacements from the original list to the next passer.

What about putting everything in a large ziplock (or two) and placing them in the plastic tub? Even if the corner is trashed that would afford some additional protection.

There is a second unopened boveda for the pass box in the bottom, you could take the wrapper off and put that in one of the ziplocs, then both ziplocs would be humidified if you were to go that way.

While I am glad we are doing the veterans box, the hardest thing about pulling the pass together was trying to get both tubs in a box that wouldn't be huge. Brent came up with the suggestion of sending contents of the vet box on when full or box would have been pretty big.

Any input from others in the pass appreciated.

The large ziplock fits all of the pass, I can agree that keeping the box would afford extra protection, cracked or not, I will throw another ziplock in there in case it's needed along the way.

C

Works for me. And dare I say, if you have some duct tape laying around go ahead and duct tape the corner

ETA - I know, I know, I'm letting the redneck in me show with the duct tape comment, but I am who I am.

If the cigars are ok in the Ziploc humidity wise, and the cracked box won't damage them, they should be fine.

CJ, I will be on Denver both Saturday morning and WedNesday afternoon. Let me know of that works forv you.

^This.
That was the one I had to learn the hardest.  It was tough to give up on something that I just could not make work monetarily.  In that it was also hard to learn that just because the person before you or several people before you did 4 or 5 PTs, does not mean you have to do that many.  And if you can't make that many work that is fine!  I am not a pass master by any means, but I have seen guys do 1 or 2 and move on.  Just my .02 cents.
