SAMSUNG ToC 52" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV w/ DNIe - LN52A650

+1 on the Slickdeals.net. I've bought all of my major electronics after seeing deals posted there and saved a ton of money. If you aren't in a huge rush to get the TV and can wait it out until black friday then I think your best bet is getting an account and setting up an alert. I have several alerts set up on slickdeals for things I am looking to buy (electronics, cigars, dress clothes etc).

Since we are withing 30 days of black friday...wouldn't a price protection plan work?

Unless it's a 'sale' price...right?

Too many of my friends bought plasma and weren't pleased, not that they all had bad experiences, but I bought an 52" LCD myself.
If you don't have to have this months' model Here's a link to a nice 52" SONY. I bought from these guys, had a good experience and have heard nothing but good about them (also no tax, no shipping).

Sony 40" 120Hz 1080p LCD HDTV Save $290 1899.99 before savings KDL40W4100
Sony 80GB Playstation®3 Reg. 399.99 98013
Sony Home Theater System Reg. 299.99 DAVHDX275

All for $1799.98

Hmmm!

Keep the 42 in the living room...move this to the back room...and put the PS3 and Theater in the livingroom!

UGH!

I think I may take the suggestion and wait for the black Friday sales!!!

Thanks.

My suggestion would be to pick up a 52" LCD LG or Samsung. You can never have a TV that's too big... and you can easily add things like a Playstation or home theater later on, ala carte style. You can't, however, expand the size of your TV without buying a new one.

I have a home theater in the basement, but for my living room, I didn't want to bother with rigging it with speakers, I wanted to keep it homey. So instead I went with a Polk Audio sound bar:

It sits right under the TV, doesn't take up much space, and works extremely well.

Thanks for the CR ratings. Been looking at the Phillips LCDs with 120Hrz displays, seems to have a lot of fans on the various geek boards, but no mention by CR. Sam's Club even has a great price on them.

Anyone with Phillips experience?

Philips = Crap, stay away. Poor picture quality, difficult remote to use, higher incident of failure/repair.

Most BF ads have pricing disclaimers. I would wait until noon or later on BF and hit the stores. All the cheap crap will be gone along, with the cheap customers and the managers will be looking to sell some of the better stuff. I know I used to.

Good points, get the biggest tv for the money. Most of the HTIBs(Sony) use propriatary speaker wires which make it a bitch to wire for surround. You're better off going separate components/speakers, which includes the Soundbar. Boston Acoustics TVee soundbar is ok too, for a real simple audio improvement.

I work in the electronics department at Sam's Club, and the Sony Bravia and Samsung TV's are far and away the best ones we sell.

That Sony system (Bravia) is the one I WON in this contest.
I have the thing setup now and just waiting for Crumcast to turn on the full HD. A couple things I didnt realize is that this thing has a built in HD tuner, so I already get the HD channels that are broadcast on our regular lineup. They show up strange though. They list themselves as ch3.1 or ch 88.6. I still have the regular braodcasts but these extras too.
The other thing that scares me is just how messy Oprah's hair really is..AHAHAHAHA
I absolutely love the picture colors of this systems and the picture clarity is so clear that I find it almost too clear too watch.

Hope that helps Gary

oh yeah..FWIW. I was looking at Philips before I got this one and was sure that one was for me.

Well, after reading the threads on fiscal responsibility, I just bought the 52" Sony KDL52W4100.

We'll see what it looks like tomorrow! :D

Thanks for all the help.

>I just couldn't buy into the Samsungs TOC red<

Sony really has fantastic TVs, but you pay for the quality. You will be very happy (although stay away from Sony sound components as they are crap in general). I think that for anybody looking for a good VALUE, the VIZIOs that are available at COSTCO/Sam's are a great buy. As an added bonus Costco extends the manufacturer's original warantee by several years.

Ery

I ended up at best buy this morning from midnight to 5:30 and picked up the 52" Samsung they had on special.

I picked up a Pioneer 48" four years ago from Costco, great TV. I am looking for a 52" for the new home (buy a home in to days world hope I can hold on to it) down in St Louis. Samsung, will be it some time after the holidays.

So whats up with Blue Ray. Walt D. is going all BR and I will need to pic one up. Are the Ps3 every bit as good as I hear?

Great info page guys thanks.

Everybody is going with Blu-ray since there isn't a competing format from Toshiba et al any longer. While the PS3 was considered the best Blu-ray player the new Panasonic DMP-BD35 is right up there at over $100 cheaper and is a Cnet editors choice.

This is true. If you don't want a multi-media gaming platform, then there's no need to get a PS3. The ps3 also draws 4-5 the amount of power when in use compared to a typical blu-ray player.

Don't get me wrong, I love my ps3, but it ain't for everyone.
