Gentlemen,
I'm a Soldier deployed to Iraq. Some of you may be aware there is no restriction on Cuban cigars sold on US bases especially large ones like the Baghdad International Airport complex known as Victory Base Camp. As a result there are many vendors who sell Cubans in addition to numerous other counterfeit items such as DVDs and games. I've assessed that the bulk of the Cubans sold are fakes. Decent fakes, perhaps superb fakes, but likely forgeries none the less. OTOH, there are some genuine Cuban at a few shops however I'm paranoid since its been a long time since I've seen a genuine Cuban.
Cohiba, Montecristo, Bolivar, Hoya De Monterrey are just a few of the brands available. If people could post up macro pictures of the cap, the wrapper, the label, and the open end of Cuban cigars known to be genuine, I will go out and buy the locally available version and post a side-by-side comparison for the gallery to decide wether the cigar is real or fake.
I discovered a lot of the Cohibas are fake because the burn was uneven, the ash flaky, and the cap was not triple capped. I think that is the main way I've been determining which is a real Cohiba and which aren't; the cap quality. The labels are absolutely superb and I will post pictures of those as well.
Thanks.
