We are just playing this really cool game where you trade cigars around the nation.

Work is a lot harder than it used to be so finding a pass on desk when I got home was a really cool thing.

Here is what I'm thinking .. LMK if it does not hold up.

Takes:

#52 ZINO Platinum scepter stout
#33 Trinidad Fundador (ISOM)

Had to hold it all weekend :D

Had to stop by UPS store this morning to get it out today. Will be in George's hands by 12:00 Wednesday. I left the routing ticket in my coat at work will try to post tomorrow.

Fun to play this game. That Fundador is gonna BUUUUUURRRRRRRRNNNNNNNN :sign:

Thanks Robb for participating on this first pass o' mine :D

How's the box & contents holding up?

Robert

Looking just fine, My extra little hygro was showing an even 68 over Saturday.
I added another small thin sheet of cedar dampened with 50/50. Should disperse over the trip.

UPDATE

:( Seizure dropped me a PM this evening, and it looks like he will need to duck out of the pass ((((((((((crowd ahhh's)))))))))))

His name has been removed from the line-up on TOP + 1, so texasaero will be sending the pass to Scott1966.

Harold, please post or PM to confirm seeing this little update.

thanks guys!

Mr. J, enjoy that Trini. The one I had was a great smoke! Great plays might I add. Well fella's, I am partly home from my week of vacation. Spent some time in La Jolla, Del Mar, Torrey Pines, and Pacific Beach. I had such a great time. I should have never moved from Cali. :angry2: Spending some time with my parents now and off to Phoenix, AZ tomorrow. I just thought I'd check in and let you all know I'm still around. I'm sure BD will be happy to know. :p Looks like the pass is still running smoothly.

Ree

This pass safely arrived on my doorstep last evening. I'm going to be going through it very soon, and will be getting this bad boy on the way right quick!!!

Dang, this thing is moving nicely BD. Any chance of a little detour "back to Cali" before AZ? :whistling: JK, but having a great time watching this pass continue.

Awww of course I'm happy to hear from you bro
Yeah I felt the same way when I left San Jose. But this place is great when it's not in the triple digits for months at a time  Sat back with some buddies last night until about 3am puffin away. 75 degrees out with a clear sky. NICE!

I'll be sure to put you near the end on Puff-Puff Part 2 :D

Don't even think we're barely half way done and already can't wait for this puppy to come home ;)

Okay, guys... Here's my dilemma...

Up until recently, I had not been much of an ISOM Cohiba fan. I finally got to try a Siglo II a while back and was not very impressed. I thought it was grossly overrated. Some BOTL's convinced me I must have done something wrong - I must have not humidified it correctly, maybe it was a bad cigar out of the batch (I believe it was Moki who said there was a GREAT variety of the quality of ISOM cigars - even in the same box). So, I was fortunate enough to try a Cohiba Robusto I was gifted. I immediately fell in love with the brand. It was one of the BEST smokes I'd ever had. That experience definitely changed my thinking about Cohiba's.

Because of that good experience I've been wanting to try other Cohiba's. I've hear about and been DYING to try a Cohiba Sublime EL ISOM. There's one in the pass. It is crazy expensive, and I think it will be nearly impossible to top that (price wise), let alone match it. I sometimes run into trouble with that in other passes I've been in. I've got some very nice ISOM's to trade out that did not cost the same as the Sublime, but are probably, in my mind at least, equally valuable in their scarcity. An example would be: I have a Diplomaticos #2 - that certainly wouldn't be nearly as valuable as the Sublime - unless maybe it was an '01 Diplimaticos #2. Does that sound fair? Or how does a Punch Monarcos in Tubos from '01 sound? I have no idea.... Kept in perfect conditions, both are INCREDIBLE smokes, and pretty scarce!

As far as domestics - in my mind, off the top of my head, an example would be what a fair trade was for a BTL? The cost of the stick, retail value, is not really bad - there are plenty of sticks in the range that would satisfy that. But it is scarce and very sought after. So - what is a fair trade for it?
In a previous pass I had someone question my wanting to replace a BTL with a Ashton VSG Enchantment. In my mind, it seemed to me like a fair trade - nearly equally scarce, nearly the same retail value, and a much better smoke in my opinion.

Obviously, if I can't trade for it, I can't trade for it. Brown Devil will be the recipient of a VERY nice smoke(I'm told), and that's not bad. I'm sure at some point in time I'll have the opportunity to either purchase it, receive it in a "bomb", work out a trade, etc., etc., etc. Or, I'll just continue to dream about maybe being able to try it... To be honest, other Newbs, I haven't been around this board that long and I've been able to try some incredible smokes thanks to the generosity of the other BOTL's. I'm convinced that if you have some patience, it will come your way - we tend to like to "share" our wealth. ;)

Certainly the pass host has a say in the puts and takes, but so do the other participants who have a stake in it as well. And what I deem valuable (what I like) certainly is different than what others deem valuable. Some collect the cigars as prizes, others want cigars they can smoke forgetting about the collectors value (and I've heard PLENTY of discussion about disappointment over cigars that have a great collectors value and smoke like a rope! - ask Seizure in his "Blind Lead the Blind" pass).

This is a great learning opportunity for many of us. I'm sure I'm not the only one who ponders these questions whenever the pass reaches us and there are the VERY tempting sticks in there! Any advice from the FOG's would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

George.....I don't think the '01 Dip #2 or the Punch would be a considerable Put for taking the Cohiba Sublime. Yeah, they are a little aged, but IMO that only increases the value around $2-$3 each or so. If you want to trade for a BTL, let me know. We can work something out.

Now that you bring it up, maybe I should ask the question. Since this is my first pass, I want to make sure I understand the appropriateness of certains takes and puts. Let's use the example above, the BTL. What, in your mind, would be an appropriate put for that take? I would assume that an Untold Story would suffice. What about a masterpiece? Masterpiece maduro? A BTL is a pretty rare cigar, what is sufficient to replace it. Also, for the cohiba sublime EL. What would you consider an appropriate put? Another EL? From another year OK? Are there ones that would not be appropriate? Once again, that is a hard one to replace.

Before anyone thinks otherwise, I'm not interested in either of these sticks even if they were still in the pass once it comes to C'Ville. I am just looking for a little guidance from those who have participated in other passes in the past. I hope my questions don't sound argumentative, but some clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, I'm not expert by any means, LOL. If I were to take the BTL, off the top of my head I'd put......Padron 40th, OR Anejo, Perdomo Salamone, Opus X A, Hemi Masterpiece Maduro, Untold Story, maybe an Opus X DC. Just a few off the top of my head. I always try and match the $ as close as I can. Always lean towards putting the extra into the pass, rather then taking the extra $ out. Rarity also comes into play. Just the way I do it and I'm sure people do it differently. Nobody will crucify you if something is askew. They will just bring it to your attention.

For the Sublime, I'd put a Cohiba DC EL, Cohiba SR, any Davidoff...just some examples. Again, I try to match $ for $ and include the rarity into the decision. For instance, I can readily buy the Sublime for $22/stick. So go from there.

Just what I do and try to do. Quality for Quality, always. If you can better the pass, do it.

I appreciate the input. Was about what I thought, just wanted to double -check. I keep hearing quality for quality...just wanted to make sure it meant what I thought it meant. Thanks again.

Double-G, this is what I meant about me not being able to help you much ;)
I guess this is Robb's fault for his extreme generousity :p :D

This was EXACTLY the feedback I was looking for - I want to make sure I don't do something REALLY stupid. I wasn't sure how much value aging adds - thanks Brandon for your insight on that. In other words, I have nothing even close to touching the Sublime...

And the other side is, if I'm just a little bit short (off by a dollar or three), or have make up for the "rarity" factor, I always try to make it up with something that will bring the value of the trade way up over. I certainly wouldn't trade out a BTL for a Padron 2000... That would be insane. I know you're supposed to trade value for value. But, for example if I were to take a BTL for a Ashton VSG Enchantment (because retail in the VSG is in the ball park), I would try to add something like a Davidoff Millenium Blend (or comparable) to make up for it. I think it may be a bit of overkill (?), but I also think it's only fair for the balance (dollar amount and rarity factor)... Does something like that sound reasonable, or am I WAY out on a limb here?

Brandon :whistling: :whistling:

I'll yield to the group on this one, but IMHO that idea, although you would be attempting to cover value/rarity by adding an extra stick, I think falls into the category of quantity for quality, and not qality for quality.

I know I know, we're really killing ya huh George :0 ;)
