I worked at a company that had computer installations at both Subic Bay and Clarke. One day CAFB was overrun by protesters. Our system went off line and a couple of days later, when things finally calmed down, they called us and said that somebody had broken into the telephone switch room and taken an axe to most of the machines. They left the axe sticking out of the AT&T 3B2! We told them to keep the computer and we sent them a new one. Years later, long after I had left the company, somebody called me at home from a computer depot somewhere and said, "I have this old 3B2 with your business card taped on it. We found your name in the phone book. The computer is damaged, in fact it looks like somebody took an axe to it! What should we do with it?"
During user acceptance, the local volcano started rumbling and they decided to close the base. Since we hadn't completed our user acceptance yet, the customer (US Navy) wasn't going to pay us. My company decided that getting paid was very important so the folks onsite had to run around the mostly deserted base, risking life and limb to confirm that all the phones had dial tone, call forwarding, etc...once they confirmed, the user signed off on the acceptance, we got paid and they had just enough time to rip the whole thing out before the volcano blew....
