PARTIGAS serie D 2005 reserva

One point that should be addressed is the fact that several people have mentioned burn issues. Uneven burns can happen to any cigar for a variety of reasons. One simply corrects the burn and continues on. However, several reviewers have made judgments regarding quality and authenticity based on the flavor profile deteriorating after stating that they intentionally did not correct the uneven burn because they wanted to see just how bad it would get. One cannot accurately assess a cigar this way because the intended flavor profile can only be experienced as the blend of the various tobaccos burns evenly. When any component of the cigar (wrapper, binder, filler) burns faster than the other components, it completely alters the flavor profile and will ruin the experience for the smoker.

I don't know if you were referring to my situation, but I did try to see if the burn would correct itself initially - it didn't. It got so bad I had to keep touching it up so I could taste the cigar. That could have been caused by many things...

George,

No, that wasn’t referring to you at all. If you have to continually correct a bad burn then it’s not worth the effort to finish the cigar. I’m sure you gave it more than a fair shot. Without going back through all the posts, I think it was KB who said he let it go unchecked just to see how bad it would get. I’m sure there were others but I may have misread some of the posts by those who, like you, got tired of trying to make it work.

To be honest, after seeing the pic’s vitasea posted with the obvious fake bands on some of the Cohibas, as well as the never produced “2005 LE”, I’m just sick about this guy. I’ve really tried to be objective and have encouraged others to be as well. But it seems vitasea has decided not to return the favor. I can understand that he believed his sticks to be genuine but I can’t see how someone can be presented with absolutely indisputable facts and still not at least consider that they’ve made a mistake. It’s getting hard to stay open to the hope that he’s just misinformed about his “product”.

vitasea,

It’s “come to Jesus” time. You have to recognize by now that at least some of your cigars are counterfeit. There can be no other conclusion. The question is, is it your source that is disreputable or is it you?

I sincerely hope you answer well.

How much would you sell that "one of a kind" cigar for and do you have it insured?

I promised a review, and here it is. Vitasea, thanks up front for the chance to try this cigar. Very much appreciated.

I won't even comment on the authenticity of the cigar as the truth is I'm new at this game and wouldn't know for sure. I will say the bands and overall appearance looked spot on. I'm rather new to quality cigars in general and am still learning as I go, so with that in mind.....

Vitasea’s Partagas Series 4 Limited Edition

Smoked 08-07-2005
Length – 124mm
Diameter – 19.5mm (or roughly a 50 Gauge)
Stored 72F / 64%RH since July 14th

Pre-light appearance – Very dark smooth wrapper. Nice triple cap. Color very much like the ERDM “Choix Supreme” next to it in the humi. In fact, color, construction, etc. are very similar between the two.

Pre-light aroma – very nice; definite “barnyard” flavors or nice, familiar Cuban smell. Cut cleanly with the Xikar. Pre-light draw a little tight as have been most ISOM’s I’ve been fortunate enough to try.

Torch time – first third a little rough. Some of the expected flavors are there, but nothing really special; good, not great. Serious burn issues – had to retouch with the torch twice trying to get things to even out. The middle third was probably the best of the cigar. The burn settled down a little and smoked pretty well. Smooth, not bad....just not fantastic. I kept waiting for some spice, some complexity, and for me it just didn’t happen. By the time I got to the back third the burn issue had returned with a vengeance and required another serious retouch. I’ve had gars that got more flavorful and richer as they went, making me want to smoke right to the nub; sorry to see the end. This wasn’t one of them. Started getting hot – really hot – about the time I got to the back third and continued getting worse right up to the time I put it down.

I kept waiting for something awesome to happen; this is supposed to be one of Partagas' very best, right? Didn't get there. A decent smoke, but just not fantastic, not "one to remember".....

Again, these are the views and comments of a guy far less experienced than many of the members here; take them with a grain of salt. My intention is to try another ISOM I have with some humi time on it tonight, and compare the two. If I have any comments worth posting, I will do so.

Vitasea, again my thanks for the opportunity to try one of your smokes. Most appreciated.

Thanks, guys - B.B.S.

Though these cigars may not be "the real thing," I have a feeling that Vitasea's intentions are good.

This may be true...but he's at the point of denial that he will never allow himself to back down and admit that he may be wrong, even though we all now know he is.

I believe Vitasea has chosen to be in denial about the authenticity of his selection - it artifically protects the value of his investment.

Vitasea claimed to be a supplier for a online source. If he admits to us that his supply is not as he claimed, he'll have to answer some queestions with his business partner too.

Saying not like the one vitasea sent helps to narrow it down. I wonder if those 2005 Sublimes are selling for $50?...... :sign:

BTW vitasea, check out this review of the 2004 Cohiba Sublime EL.

READ ME VITASEA!

So many people still wondering what a $50.00 cigar tastes like.

I know I'm still wondering... ???

KiltedCraftsman and I got together yesterday to torch the sticks that we received from Vitasea. Both sticks lit right up and burned fine. The draw on mine was good, but Jeremy found his to be very tight (even after using CC's patented drywall screw method). We both agreed that the cigar was nothing special. No complexity, no harshness, little taste. Pretty much a bland smoke, like others have noted.

Forget about it being a $50 cigar, I wouldn't pay $3 for another one of these. My $.02.

Nobody is getting cigars from the back door of the Partagas factory. If you have connections you can have any size cigar you want made, with any band you want on it. Therefore the cigars in question may be rolled at Partagas, but the customer buying has no idea what the blend is.

I can get any cigar I want out of there and have the Partagas Reserva band put on it.
