Opus X

Just because it says 1992 on the box doesn't mean they are from 1992....

I gotta give him credit for not melting down and for taking most of the points made to heart. We'll see how this goes.
Sorry, Ray. I suppose it's easier to feign ignorance than admit to being a ruthless gouger and a complete asshole.

Reality check, gents - Opies are available from REPUTABLE, AUTHORIZED Fuente dealers for retail plus state tax. Not every day, but if you have a good relationship with a quality dealer, it does happen. And, limiting quantities are common. I have a local B&M that gets them in three or four time a year, and will sell you two of every vitola they get in for MSRP + state tax. They usually get four or five vitolas so walking out with ten Opies and not being gored is quite possible.

You're done here, hotshot......

It is not uncommon for a cigar forum devotee to walk into a cigar shop and have a greater depth of knowledge than the shop's hourly employees, but this thread is a priceless example of an individual in waaaaayyy over his head.

Hell, if the cigar biz doesn't pan out for you Jimmy, you could always open a little Texas style roadside burger joint with a catchy name like McRonalds.

It would have to be McJRonalds (remember he has a brother too   )

If I'm not mistaken, if you have an account with fuente they have a no price gouging policy. If you are caught doing this by fuente they will pull your account, someone correct me if I am wrong.

This is False. Do you really think for a second that
if you got double or triple the amount over wholesale that Fuente is gonna pull your account.

We do live in a capitalist country, although it doesn't seem like it right now.

That's what Fuente and their apologists would have us believe.

Doc.

This is false as well. Fuente sells to a bunch of different distributors.

They might not get opus, diamond crown, diamond crown maximus, but they do get fuente products.

Greenband, Hemingway, Don Carlos.

As far as I know...there is NO Fuente Wholesale location. All items would ship direct from Fuente to the dealer - or the local rep for delivery.

I'd be very upset if that is different in Texas.

True!

I don't think this guy is a gouger in the traditional sense, but he clearly is very naive about the cigar industry and the market in general. It kinda sucks when the hourly employees of some these places don't know jack crap about cigars, but it's downright scary when the owners don't seem to have a clue about the very product they are trying to sell. I live in the Houston area, but you can bet I will never step foot in this guy's store.

...absolutely...!! Take Casa Fuente, for example..... :whistling:

I don't think this guy is a gouger in the traditional sense....
...respectfully, you think wrong. It's easy to play stupid when you get caught trying to hose down the buying public. Lots easier than 'fessing up to being an opportunist and gouger.

I should have been more clear...I was being specific regarding the thread...'Opus'.

You are correct in that!

I have seen our Opus numbers drop over the years.

This is due to a number of things. More accounts being opened. Weather issues in the DR.

No matter how many boxes we get, I sell them at or just slightly over msrp. It's just the way we
calculate the numbers.

We have always done this and will continue to do so.

The guy that started this thread, most certainly bought them a distributor that over charged him. But we all can agree that the more hands this box of opus went through, the more expensive it became.

Possibly...it's definitely been know to happen, but either way his credibility is shot with me he'll never get any of my money. :)

BTW guys,

In no way shape or form was I trying to start a debate about opus, fuente pricing.

I was only trying to clear up some myths that have been floating around for years.
