Opus X

The other day I stopped at "JR" in NC and I was amazed, they had Opus X in like 5 sizes there! Unfortunately, there was a little sign on the case that said " Limit of 2 Opus X cigars per person" I asked the lady, if that meant 2 per each size and she said , no 2 total, lol. I had to just pay $9.50 a piece, so that was a good deal. I also got a Don Carlos to compare it with the Hemmingways that I love. I still haven't smoked the Opus X's, saving them in the humi for a little while. But I can't imagine paying $48.00 for one, get real guy. That's called price gouging around here!

Ouch, and I thought paying 18 was steep at my local B&M. What a nice welcome though.

Sorry for the CL...but yes, the 10% off is for all CP members as well.

$48.99 is the retail we have on these, it is what it is. The other stores in our area have them for more than us (according to several over our customers) so I think we are doing quite well. Also, pardon me repeating myself here, but we are a Retail shop...not an online seller...there are differences here.

My name is Jimmy...my brothers name is Ronnie. J & R Naturally, right? Well we did not know it was CR'ed by JR out of NC, so we are currently in the works to changing it to R & J.

Thanks!
Jimmy

HAHAHAHA, come on...your shop has the prices marked up over 5 times MSRP, I bet the local retail customers are busting down your door...because we sure won't be ringing the phones. I see your phone number area code has you in Houston, I'm terribly sorry to see that....I've bought Opus from many stores in Houston, and never paid over MSRP. I'll remember to stay clear of your shop next time I'm in town.

Good luck with your sale.

I picked one of these up in Disney last week for $21 and knew I was getting robbed but figured "hey I'm on vacation, it's Disney and my local never gets this vitola."

Jimmy, you sir are clearly insane and those suckers customers are gonna be pretty pissed once they realize how you been screwin'em!

$49 for an Opus RdC?!?!?!? Maybe for a Double Corona...but certainly not an RdC. That, sir, is a rip-off!!!

:sign: :sign:

Not sure how you guys are getting $12 for an MSRP and $18, etc.

The $48.99 (box price) was actually for the Coffin Opus X "A"; the 9.2 x 47. The worker I got there, I assume, was confused on which cigar you asked him about. Those, however, were ordered for a specific customer...he's buying the whole box.

The boxes I got in, for retail purposes, is the Opus X Reserva D' Cheateau. The Retail, in store price, is going to be $39.99 on that per cigar, not $48.99. With the 10% off for CP members, it's like $36.00 a pop. Now before everyone starts jumping down my throat, here are some online comparisons on the same exact cigars...from very reputable dealers:

http://www.cigar.com/cigars/viewcigar.asp?brand=305

http://www.bestcigarprices.com/opus-x-rese....html#item_5124

http://www.showmeyourash.com/product_info.aspx?pid=2082

http://www.ecigardepot.com/OpusXSampler.htm

As you can see, most of the Reserves are going for about $33 or $34 with exception for one site I believe. Given we are a retail store, I think the $39.99 is not too bad considering we are not far off from the online price (and with the 10%, we are right on it).

Sorry for the confusion...and for those who are hating, that is not necessary.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Were not your average online customers (we tend to know what is fair and right), paying that much for a single opus is still crazy!! You best bet in Cigar Pass is to post a deal when it is actually a DEAL and not a cigar you trying to sell for 3x+ the MSRP.

...and one last note, I saw someone mention it above. These are from 92's, not 05's or anything like you see online.

So you are saying you have 16 year old Opus in stock..........

Man, you should really know your product before you start posting about it.

Stick around, you can learn a few things.

These are from 92's, please explain. I hope you are not telling us they are form 92, maybe I am just reading this wrong!!

Jimmy, for what it's worth, and I'm not piling on here, but here is CigarPass' Opus and Anejo MSRP reference made my MilesMingusMonk to assist in helping Members and Newbies know and understand what is fair for a price of an Opus, and then decide by themselves whether they want to buy or not:

Like I said, it is just an MSRP reference to help members decide whether they want to pay the $38.99 for an Opus RDC or not, knowing that they're paying a $26.00 markup for it. As stated, you are more than allowed to price your cigars as you see fit being that you're a retailer, but some of the members here, like Mark said, are not your average online customers.

Good luck with your sale sir. :p

It's quite obvious that Jimmy is either a thief or doesn't know shit about cigars. Which is it Jimmy, thief or dumb fuck?

Doc.

Might want to check if you label say "wopus". Opus wasn't retailed in 92' or 93' or 94'.....

Can we vote for both?

He claims that local vendors has them for the same prices (or so he was told buy his customers) and then proceeds to quote other on line gougers as his proof.

Also, dont forget to post your Opus over at CF....but please wait until Friday. They are not as accepting as us here on CP and they have their rules.......LOL

One more thing:

(L to R): Double Corona - Reserva d'Chateau - Perfecxion No.2 - Petit Lancero - Fuente Fuente - Robusto - Perfecxion No.5

Original Release Fuente Fuente Opus X

"Opus X cigars (the first Dominican puro cigar made of 100% Domincan tobacco) were originally released to the public in a trickle at the end of 1995, and more widely in 1996. They were not sold west of the Mississippi river until the late 1990's. The original cigars had no gold lettering on the cellophane, and came in slide-top boxes." - Andrew Welch
