Open letter to CP

I'm telling you, many of us would be glad to help out. In fact, I'd guess that many of us would love to help but don't really know what we could do.

With this thread coming out, several that participated in the fall CP fund drive have contacted me asking the status of this project. Brian's son Ryan sent this off to Rod back in early November. He was sick at the time and was never able to send me the spreadsheet, so I have no way of confirming reciept of donation for those of you who do not already know. I do think that everyone who notified me they were sending out, he did get.

This drive was a huge success, and those of you who did not get a Pm asking you to participate, it was not intentional. Below is a link to the thank you he sent out to everyone.

Rod's Thank You Thread

For those of you who would like to help, here is the address to send to.

Rod would never request donations himself, nor would he put a link in here where you can donate. I think he feels awkward about something like that.
Some feel that the fund drive might have been too much, but I can tell you he appreciates these gestures that we do on our own because he knows it's done because we want to do it. He's very touched by these acts.
This place cost a lot of money to run, and like the man said, the sponsors don't pay for all of it. Don't donate out of obligation, rather because you want to.
Until something else comes about, things like this, and what Matt mentioned at the CP Herf are the biggest help.

Thanks John!

This truly is a great place Rod, and we all appreciate your efforts.

Happy New Year Todd!

I vote for Neal, Bill, Matt, & Kirk as Mods. Might as well make them do something useful around here. :sign:

So, Rod's mods are an extension of Rod's rod, and if Rod's mods get the nod, my God, who will mod Rod's mods?

:D

Thanks for all your hard work Rod. I feel most at home on CP, and hope that CP stays as is. The members make this community what it is and I'd hate to see it resemble the "other" forums out there.

I have to say this is the only cigar forum I belong to. I have lurked on the others and this is the BEST! Thank you Rod for the way this community is run. It's the only reason I stay here. That and SamClemmons browbeating people... It makes my day!

On how eBay fosters a community affinity:

"This community was nurtured through open and honest communication and was built on five basic values that eBay expected its members to honor:
We believe people are basically good.
We believe everyone has something to contribute.
We believe that an honest, open environment can bring out the best in people.
We recognize and respect everyone as a unique individual
We encourage you to treat others the way that you want to be treated.
The company recognized that these values could not be imposed by fiat. According to Omidyar (the founder), 'As much as we at eBay talk about the values and encourage people to live by those values, that's not going to work unless people actually adopt those values. The values are communicated not because somebody reads the Web sit and says, 'Hey, this is out we want to treat each other, so I'll just start treating people that way.' The values are communicated because that's how they're treated when they first arrive. Each member is passing those values on to the next member. It's the little things, like you receive a note that says, 'Thanks for your business.'" "

Change has to be effected at the membership level, not with policy/enforcement. imo
Weird the things you come across during J-term classes.

Yeah - that is a great pipe dream, and yet FleaBay has some of the biggest scumbags on the 'net... :sign:

Bring back DaveWF!

Yep! I want my shot at an iPod!

Thanks for your insight George but I wasn't saying "look how well it worked for them", rather pointing out what a simplistic and agreeable credo they put forth.
