Open letter to CP

Rod,

Great message, is there a way you can blast PM this to all members, to make sure that everyone as least sees it? Yes you can not make people read it, but i would think most would it they saw it.

Thanks for all the hard work that goes into maintaining this site and providing us the users of this site a place to call home.

Thanks
John

Edit to fix typo

Got it Rod....and a good word too.

Thanks for what you do.

..and Moki....

I call shenanigans... that post was far too long for Rod to have composed it; clearly ghostwritten by Wilkey! :D

Priceless buddy!! Absolutely priceless.

Thanks Rod...every now and again the "reset" button has to be pushed.

Good timing.

Good call Rod. I know how much you love this place, and what it means to you. You're doing a darn good job of it, and I really hope everybody takes a fresh mindset to how the forum is "self-moderated" in the coming year... I know I'll do my part.

Thanks and Happy 09 Rod. I appreciated what Rod has requested, and what everybody has said. I feel that Rod has done a phenomenal job. I am still new here and have learned a lot from being here. Thanks again Rod. This is the best forum around.

Read and understood.
Loud and clear sir.
Thank you for creating this place for us, and for the work you put in just to keep it going.

Thank you Rod, message well taken.

Well put Rod. Seems like some of the recent events are drama written directly for Horny Housewives. There's no reason that these issues need to be blown so out of proportion.

Read and agreed with 100%. I would hate to see a moderated site because of a few people that can't think before they post. My time here has been nothing but fun and I feel that this is still a family and always will be with you at the helm. Thanks for all you do and a Happy New Year to you.

Sam

Thanks, Rod for all the work you put into this site.

Looking forward to a great 2009

Danny

One of the things that makes this a great forum is that it is community based. Thank you, Rod, for all that you do. If you ever need help with the technical side of stuff, pop me a note. I've done upgrades and maintenance for VBulleting and phpBB forums. IP.Board isn't that far different from those ones. :)

While we are a self-moderated community today, some people have taken it to an extreme, and proclaimed themselves as the primary moderators, which completely negates the entire purpose of a SELF moderated community. Self moderation means we are all on the same playing field, you moderate yourself, and help guide others when needed. It does not make any one member an authoritative figure.

A Newbie's Perspective:

For some of the veterans here, I know that some newbies have blatantly not read the rules or care to take the time to read them. But some of us "newbies" have read them twice and are only wanting to share their enjoyment and knowledge of cigars. So next time a newbie steps out of line, please remind yourself that there are a lot more of us that are conscientious and are trying to play by the rules. I have come across some posts by "self appointed moderators" that are without tact and are directly counteractive to "The Internet's Friendliest Cigar Community".

Thankfully, most folks here are very friendly and have a positive outlook on life and people. Isn't that what cigars are all about? :)

There is something inherently paradoxical about this. You're considering appointing members to moderate the self moderated board. Well, in truth, you have been moderating all along. However, you get action through respect, not because you can lock a thread or ban an asshat. I'll bet you're getting fed up because thirty people punched the "report this thread" button on each of the Wilkey threads.

Please chose carefully.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Well said much needed post Rod.

The Wilkey threads were just the latest example, and I don't intend to make light of that or any situation, but CP passed what is reasonable for one guy to run years ago. Lucky for him that he's able to ignore most of those report emails.
