Maybe someone should start a new thread on what defines an active member... oh wait...

Now Roger said it was a bunch of overpriced cigars. Did you catch that?
He admitted to trying to make a profit.

Uh, no, he said they were overpriced. If I paid $35 for Opus and tried to sell them for $25 each back, I'd be laughed at because they are overpriced. The thread even said that one of the cigars was selling for a very good price.

If your other accusations are true, though, that's not good. I personally don't care if the guy is banned, the poker room is closed, whatever. This thread is full of nothing but assumptions and sly accusations in the form of questions, though. That's what bothers me. If you think he's a liar, either show hard proof or move on and don't deal with him, imo.

Wait for the next fuckup and light the fire, I say. The searchlights and hounddogs are already out.

Wow, he played for cash in 2007. Jesus... all the accusations must be true now.

And we'll never know if they are all true, the sale post still hasn't been addressed.

Yeah, I know. Did you hear that his first post here was a buy, too?!?

Just PM Rod and get the fker banned already. Your agenda is embarrassing.

Sometimes I feel like you're the sweetest troll I've ever encountered.

Fortunately, you also enjoy cigars so you can't be all bad.

And my take on this is... he has done nothing wrong. And if people thought he was cheating this would have come up a long time before this.

It is time that this dies.

If you play poker and can't afford to either lose or break even your a dumb-ass in my opinion. If you don't want to play against dkprlp then don't. Its not his fault he knows how to play or that he likes to play here.

Has anyone he has lost to bitched about him sending them cigars? No. Then this is nothing but a big zero.

dkprlp. brother, the reason you haven't been in the radar is because you haven't done anything wrong here... EXCEPT deleting your OP in your sales post and refusing to repost it (I'm sorry dude, I'd only accept your "I forgot what I posted..." if you were a member of the high times forum instead of CP). You acknowledged that it was a mistake and that you won't do it again. So its now a mute point.

Are we so bored that we need to make drama?

I hope not, because that would reflect negatively on us as a community.

Shawn

I'm with Shawn on this one. I don't see that he's done anything wrong other than the deletion of his sale. Sales should never be deleted because it is the one way for members of this forum to track and evaluate whether to enter into a transaction with another member or not. The fact that he's refused to fix his sale is disappointing and certainly makes me wary of future sales by him.

I am amazed that more folks aren't up in arms over dkprlp's contention that he's owed sticks from folks that "came to play poker and disappeared".

That's not what Cigar Pass is about. That allegation bothers me a lot. I guess there are two possibilities;

- dkprlp isn't telling the truth, and is using the issue as a smoke screen of sorts. That would explain his reluctance to "out" the names of the guys who owe him sticks.
- dkprlp is telling the truth and the folks in Poker Room basically don't self police their players. Debts aren't taken seriously and repayment of same isn't a priority.

Either way, there is a deeper problem here and I'm afraid we'll never get to the bottom of it. It makes us all look bad.

As far as "chat getting dragged through the mud" I have re-read this thread and didn't see that. Valid questions are being asked about both the poker room and chat, but no mud that I can see.

I would like to semi-address the issue of non-paying players. These players are usually new to the table, and then just don't show anymore. There are a few of them, but for the most part the people that play poker are there to socialize, play the game, and make it interesting by making it for a few sticks. I personally have been very fortunate, and only one person owes me sticks that I am not sure about. But I will take that to PM. I also talked to Rod and he said to go ahead and make a nice post with non-payers and maybe to remake the rules thread. I and others will work on that as well. But to keep harping on the poker in itself by those especially that do not avail themselves of it, is a bit off kilter. I respect all the peoples opinions here, but I have to say my piece as well. :) Please feel free to join us pretty much any night of the week. As we play poker, talk and smoke cigars, talk about our families and how they are, and generally have a great time. Poker is just the medium IMHO, and people are who they are..... I am pretty good at poker, not the best not the worst, but I have won more than I have lost by a decent amount. Hopefully my reputation does not come into question for being good at it??? Thanks and hope people don't take this the wrong way. It is my observations, no more no less!

...and, this is OK with you guys? Why would anyone pay any debts if they can just "go away"...?? Blows my mind....and, is NOT what this board is about.

I agree one hundred percent. If someone isn't paying their debts, first take it to Rod and if that doesn't get the matter handled, then out the bastards.

I understand that completely, but if the people are not seen nor heard from again, what difference does it make at that point? Anyone can play poker, unless we change the rules. Or at least that is what I have seen since I have been here. Maybe that is something we need to address. But really, posting people that have not been seen at all on the boards accomplishes little IMHO. If I am wrong, then I will change.

I agree that it's unacceptable, but how are you going to out someone who just "goes away"?

Isn't the poker username and password separate from the CP username? Or does this have to match?

They can be totally different names unfortunately. However, BBS I did talk to Rod and got the ok for a non-payers thread just in the off chance someone tries to come back. I am trying to work on things with others, but it hasn't changed just yet. I do understand what you you mean, and believe me it pisses nobody off more than us, the people that get owed and shafted..... However, it does happen and there really is no way to deal with it. I suppose we could pm Rod and see about a ban or a pm with possible ban, but maybe the thread will do the trick? Really, we would love it if we didn't have to worry about non-payers more than anyone else, since we are actually the ones playing..... Something else to keep in mind..... I know i personally will let a new person play, and hope they comes through and become an actual part of CP. The reason for that is that is how it worked for me. So I kinda feel a soft spot for the new guys that want to play. Let em play and see if they are worthy. If not, I guess we are out 2 sticks for the opportunity to see someones true colors. Not perfect nor right, but hopefully we can all work to change that.

Don

Edit: to add a bit more.

Well if someone showed up in the game who I'd never heard of before and who's name didn't match a CP member's name I would politely ask them to leave the game.

It really is that simple

Worm, we do check the members list and offer advice etc on setting up a profile and whatnot. So far we have run into I believe one instance of a different name on cp and poker, but that person was unable to use same name due I believe to some characters in his name? We do try to make it a nice game.

Unfortunately there is only one company out there which offers a 3rd party poker table. There is no way to link the poker table member database to the forum database - two totally separate entities. The poker room is hosted on a server in Canada; and I have absolutely no control over it.

The poker room was a nice addition a few years back. The company that we deal with has turned to total crap, their customer service sucks, they screwed up my subscription many times, there is no tech support, they don't respond to emails, etc... I am about ready to cancel all ties with that company and remove the poker room entirely, as it is not worth the headache anymore. This type of nonsense (sharks, and people not paying up their debt) adds the fact that perhaps it's time to do away with the poker room. Pluginpoker.com (our vendor) is not a very easy company to deal with.

As far as chat goes - have you noticed that the server hasn't crashed since I took chat offline? It's a resource hog, and was bogging down the server way too much. I'll be installing the version of the forum software once it becomes available (within the next 4 months). I believe it's supposed to have an efficient chatroom built into it; we'll see... There are a few things to consider before bringing chat back, which I'll address later on as that time nears.

I agree that it's unacceptable, but how are you going to out someone who just "goes away"?
Well, gee, John, maybe they shouldn't have been allowed to play in the first place. Gets back to the whole "active member" thing and I don't mean someone who ONLY plays poker or hangs in chat.

I don't know what about this you guys don't get. This is a community based on trust and honesty. Take that away and we're no better than any of the other forums that allow gougers to hide and less than honorable folks to prey on the less knowledgeable. I would think nothing about shipping hundreds of dollars of smokes to someone I've never met face to face because of their reputation, and this forums reputation. I'm here for lots of reasons, but the fact that we're honorable fellows and take care of each other has a lot to do with it.

Let folks slide on Poker debts, next maybe skip out on buy / sell debts.....what the hell? Have all you guys forgotten what this board is about..??

I'm.....astonished.

Edited to add - dkprlp says there are "several" folks that skipped out owing him smokes. Is that true, or is it not? Don't you guys care..??

B.B.S.

I can't believe this is still going on. Like I said.....If the local church has a rec basketball league and you play in it every week, but never set foot in the church otherwise, you can not claim to be an active member of that church.

I think Roger has heard the message loud and clear and after all you have to be somewhat smart and observant to be a good poker player......let's let Roger decide if he wants to be a member of CP or just a poker player on our poker forum. It appears he is trying to make the right step; why are other people trying to keep stirring this pot?

Tom who do you think only hangs out in chat and doesn't qualify as a CP member? Since there is no more chat hosted on CP and it currently exists autonomously it is pretty much a moot point now but maybe we can get them to self-exile from the board as an example to others.
