New Cigar Box Clocks Up For Grabs

I am relatively new ot this forum but it seems like all anyone does is pick on other posters. It looks to me from reading on the site that Wade is one of the most active members. It seems that when he posted a few clocks many people asked for the them and asked for specific clocks. I just think it is silly for someone to call him out on selling/trading a product that is so well liked in the community.

Nicky,I'd just like to point out that you really ought to stay out of stuff you don't understand. I speak from experience. There's a concept around here called "getting it", you obviously don't. That's okay. Keep your head and ass down, read more and post less, and above all stay out of the drama until you do "get it".

Doc.

Amen, Nicky! I'd follow what the good Doc orders. ;) Ya don't need to step in this one right now.

But your silliness is diverting from the point. You still haven't addressed my comments on the questions you raised. Is there something I'm missing here? Have things changed? Perhaps you'd care to share... ;)

Nah, not really - I don't feel like sharing today, George. It just isn't in me this morning, probably because I've got a pile of research articles to critique by 9am tomorrow, which means no more CP for today. However, I do plan to puff a couple of good smokes while working, that I can tell ya'.

Man,

I've been correcting final papers all weekend. No smoking in the basement though. :(

I've recently had a fine BOTL here on CP send me over 40 boxes in one shot, I had no idea they were coming, none, he never asked for anything in return, so I guess that's my bad.
Wade

This has taken another turn...Did the guy know you made clocks for a LIVING or did he just think he was helping a brother help other brothers. If he did not know this you should have refused to accept the boxes for free.

This would be no different than selling gifted cigars. I don't know the answer to my question. I'm just asking it.

I'm not picking on you...But you did raise a serious qustion in my mind.

To Sarge's original point, yes, it looks like Wade is profiting from the clocks. I agree that in this forum, thats not cool. So what if Rod scooches this whole string into the vendor area? Will that satisfy your objections?

The person who sent them knew Wade made the clocks and that he was trading/selling them here.

And I've seen alot of clocks that are not as nice as Wade's go for a lot more money without shipping, so I don't understand the problem with him offering them up for sale in the SALES forum. I personally wanted the first Padrón clock he had for sale but it was one of the very first to go out the door, so it wasn't to be.

Is it Kitsch? Damn straight! But its good kitsch, that I wouldn't have minded having hanging over my Humidor.

They'll go for more one E-bay anyway.

That's where it belongs, although I highly doubt your comment is true. Why turn this place into your personal flea market?

-D

And why shouldn't anyone here who might like to have a cigar box clock be forced to buy one from him on Ebay?

A LOT of CP BOTLs have purchased or traded for his clocks and AFAIK are very happy with them.

Your not interested in one? Stay out of the thread.

*edit* to fix the broken [ Q U O T E ] tags.

That is not the point of my post...Did the guy fully understand Wade was making a profit? If he did not a serious issue has been brought up.

You know any handicraft work done is usually around 60 to 80 dollars an hour for labor. I'm thinking all told Wade spends around 45 mins to an hour on each clock. Doesn't sound like much of a profit to me.

Unless he has elves chained to his workbench doing them for him that is...

Would you not work for $30 an hour? $30 an hour times 40 hours is $1200 a week? Looks like he has about a weeks work for sale...If he has $5 invested in parts. Clink the link in his profile...It's a business. He does make his living doing this.

For what it's worth, he does not do this to support his family and pay his bills. He has a full time job, I forgot what exactly he does there, and also is a DJ on the side. And is into woodworking as a side business/hobby.

I'll give you an example...

I could charge 80 euros an hour for computer support at normal rates over here. But I don't. I do how ever charge 30 euros an hour and its understood the first hour starts as soon as I walk in the door.

Wade could make a lot more for his cigar box clocks. Like I said before I've seen worse for quite a bit more.

So basically your sticking point is his clock threads are in the wrong forum. I agree with you that it might be better for him to have it moved there to stand along side of Mr Jerry's coffee, Cigarmony's excellent accessories and Hillbilly's Jerky.

But to bash him for choosing the wrong forum is IMO wrong. A simple suggestion would have been a lot easier and not caused all this damn drama.

The most important point I want to make is this however,

Wade didn't put his clocks up for sale originally. He made a post that showed his clocks, and WE asked him to sell them to US and not over Ebay, WE asked him to sell them to US HERE at CP.

So he did. And for a lot less then he could get for them elsewhere.

Shawn

*edit* And one last thing before I go. I consider Wade a good BOTL and an asset to CP. Taking out the trash is a good thing and makes ours a strong community. Wade however isn't trash and doesn't deserve to be treated as such.

Again, what if Rod moved the thread to Hot Cigar Deals? I think we'd all give you the point that, technically, Wade makes a profit. George did do the math for us.

It simple; keep the CigarPass trading room free of "for profit" enterprises.

Wade has set up shop here - I think most guys thought it was a hobby - it's not, granted it may not be his first source of income.

As others have pointed out, Hillbilly Steaks needs to rethink posting for jerky sales in the trading room - it's a business, even if it is not his main source of income.

MrJerry and N2adventures already keep their sales posts in the Hot Cigar Deals / Vendor Section.

Man do I know the feeling. I've got three papers due Tuesday for my finals.

This sucks. :(

Amen brother, Wade just needs to post his future clock threads in the right forum and *poof* no more drama.

Now that he knows, I'm hoping this won't come up again.

Is this a question of selling in the wrong thread or objecting
to someone making a profit or both?

If it's the wrong thread, Wade, move your clocks into the correct thread.

If it's objecting to someone making a profit from cigar related items, then we have to be consistent and not allow other guys who consistently sell non related cigar items for profit, we all know who they are.

Seems to me, this is cigar related sales and fits into the community and sales of this nature should be allowed. We allow the guys selling non related cigar items to profit from us.

How and where he acquires his boxes and clock pieces and his labor time, is irrelevant. What the community must decide is whether he is permitted to sell the cigar box clocks on CP or not. If not, then IMHO, nobody should be able to sell their wares to us for profit, we must be consistent.

Brian

Can somebody please pick two numbers in between 1 and 16? You have no idea what I'm talking about which is my way of keeping this fair.

Thank You.
