Lot's of theft lately...

I for one agree ROD. Hailing from the Detroit area we see a lot of crime.

I am sure you all feel it today 700 billion ways. :whistling:

After about 25 years since last getting my car broken into, it happened again the other night. I was quite upset to say the least. They got my iPod, Garmin, expensive pair of sunglasses and messed up the door lock to my car. Unfortunately my auto insurance put everything but the garmin on my homeowner's policy since those aren't considered fixed automobile items. That didn't help me because my deductible is higher than what was stolen. I couldn't believe the set of balls these guys had, being that the car was right outside my living room window and was only 1:20am.

True enough, crime IS on the rise. Just look at the Auto Execs sticking up the American Taxpayer! Sorry, just trying to point out White Collar crime as well, NOT political. Anyway, make sure to mark personal items with your Drivers License number that way you have a better chance of getting them back if they are ever recovered.
ALSO - Here in Texas, we have conceal & carry laws so we just shoot the muggers/jackers/intruders/robbers/etc! ;) :p

edited for spelling.

Another thing for the POS to steal... A gun!!! I've seen quite a few cases of that, believe it or not. Nothing more embarrassing to keep a gun on your side only to have it taken from you by a POS. The bold little bastids in the Chicago area even target the armed security guards.

Wise counsel, Rod - lock your stuff up out of sight. We've been seeing a rash of Radar Detectors, GPS', MP3's, cell phones, etc. thefts from cars for quite a while now at least the last 2 years). It's quick and easy to break a window and run with the goodies. If you live in Orlando - get rid of your Honda Civic and Accord (they're being taken at an unbelievable rate). The bold bastids are even stealing custom racing seats and body parts (wings, scoops, doors, etc) right off the car in broad daylight!

I do not see any major difference in the levels of crime for the past few years. It seems to be at the same level as it's been for quite some time. The only difference - I see people using the economy as a new justification for their bad behavior. I'd be interested in seeing the UCR info (the crime stats fed by local jurisdictions to the feds) - I'm sure it will be widely reported in the press if there's a significant uptick.

However - one of the more disturbing trends I've noticed in the last few years - much more online fraud activity - particularly ID theft in all kinds of various forms. It's an almost entirely faceless crime, and difficult to prosecute. Keep an eye on your personal info - and make sure you're periodically checking your credit history for any strange transactions.

Here in the Philadelphia area I have noticed a lot more self defensive shootings AND they are being reported in the papers. In the past you knew they were happening here and there but they never really made the papers or the news. I think a lot of it was being buried becuase philly is anti-conceal and carry city. We have the laws on the books but they make it pretty difficult. I think now with the economy going bad there is a rise in crime especially street thug versus working joe (rather than in the past when it was thug on thug drug crap). So it seems like people are being more vigilant about carrying thier legally purchased weapons and keeping them in thier places of business.

In the last week we have had an off duty cop save a guy being attacked by a group of thugs trying to rob him. Once the cop got close enough he realized it was his son being attacked. We had a home owner shoot a guy during a home invasion attempt. Then we had a barber shoot a got attempting to rob his shop. This was the worse case in my opinion. The barber gave the guy the money but the robber wasn't happy with the amount. He then hears that the shop owner's 5 year old kid was in the back. He tells the owner come up with some more money or I am going hurt your kid. The robber walks back towards the kid and then returns to the shop owner. A tussle insues and the shop owner pulls his gun and shoots the guy. The robber was only 18.

I am 33 years old. I have had a conceal and carry permit since I was 21. I have only been in one situation where I thought I may have to draw on this guy late one night going to my car. Thank god I didn't but I am certainly glad to know I had the protection if I needed it. And that's all I'll say about that.

I was in lovely Portland, OR where the rental car got hit just outside the hotel last Wednesday/Thursday. Fuggers shattered the left rear window on the Buick Enclave, took my luggage and GPS unit. To add insult to injury it was raining while I provided a statement to the officer. I at least had the smarts to take my briefcase in. I have learned my lesson and will be bringing all of my luggage in and leaving nothing to chance in the future.

Fuggers!!

Common tactic for POS's to follow people from their hotel to the restaurant, knowing they're carrying their laptop bag (they watch them get into the car with it). Or to camp outside of a business during lunch hour and watch for those carrying their laptop bags to the car and follow them to lunch. While at lunch they smash and grab the laptop... I've seen this trend for YEARS - some years more than most, but pretty common occurrence - particularly in some jurisdictions.

I've been told at a number of very nice hotels it is unwise to leave any luggage or other valuables in the car. It's a natural draw for thieves because it's fairly easy pickings.

The other travel alert I'd like to pass on - there have been a number of "crews" claiming baggage. They simply stroll into the baggage claim area and just help themselves. Been going on for years, and happens much more often than most realize. Hard to detect and easy to accomplish in the usual confusing area of baggage claim...

That's BS. Sorry to hear about it Charlie. Did you have any cigars in there?

So, there were such things as "laptops" and "luggage claims" back in the 1830's when you first became an Officer?!?! :0

:sign: J/K! Good intel as always George, and you'd be the man to provide it!

My buddies window got busted out, though we're not sure why as they didn't take anything. It must have be an excessively stupid robber, as his car is quite the beater, rust holes and base coat covering the outside and ripped up interior, but they decided to take a look around anyways.

Christmas time means burglary and strong arm robbery goes way up where I live. Several years ago a POS tried to break in my house at Christmas. My patrol car was parked in my driveway. My best buds Jake and Sadie...my furry razorblades...stopped them cold.

Please use extra caution during the holidays.

I was at the tail end of a long trip so there were only three left but they did get the 18 count otter box!!!! Like I said, live and learn though a very expensive lesson. It will not happen again........

Also one of the bags was an Ogio for my sales samples--------->LINKY

But what hurt the most was a couple of suits, dress shirts, ties, etc! Finished out the week with the same suite.

I really hope the bastards that did this needed the items more than I did though I doubt it.

Yep, with paper bedpans and urinals!

The real question is where the hell were you Officer Soul Puppy?! Huh?! :sign:

Here's a scary one ...... last week a disgruntled employee from a local company requested a meeting with his boss, the owner of the company and the head of HR after being laid off. He then shot and killed all three. It was a little too close to home as it was just down the street from a friend of mine. Sadder yet, I just found out that one of those killed was the parent of a long time friend of mine :( .

Be careful out there guys ...... scary times indeed.

He was loath to give up his SA revolver.

Doc.

If only you knew how true that was when they tried to fix me up with a 9mm...

Well - it was actually a DA revolver and speed loaders!!!

I don't know...I still think they had to pry the Pennsylvania Flintlock .36 Caliber Musket from your hands when the revolver was first developed!

Unfortunately I was just the victim of CC fraud last week as somebody thought it was cute to steal my CC number and rack up charges to 3 bogus websites! Thank god it was a VISA card and "I am not liable to fraudulent charges" but what a pain in the ass!
