Liquor Acquisitions 2023, 2024

I live in California and walked into the only local Liquor store that sells higher end and paid way more on a whim. I would definitely of liked Blanton's a lot more at $80. 😁
I hate gougers with a passion!!! I'd never pay over retail for Blanton's. And I really only buy it to give as gifts for friends - I like a lot of other whiskey's over Blanton's. Just gave a bottle of Blanton's to my son-in-law for his birthday.

Oh yeah! Rare Breed! ♥️ I am especially fond of the Rare Breed Rye.

But I could not agree more on the best Old Fashioned being made with Rare Breed. Was very blessed when visiting the Wild Turkey distillery that they had a few bottles of the Master's Keep Unforgotten for sale in their retail store (at retail price, no less!) I did try the Masters Keep while at the distillery (they served it in the store - will be keeping that hidden in the back of my liquor cabinet for special occasions) But also had a Rare Breed Old Fashioned they crafted. Wow...

Haven’t tried the rye yet but recently acquired a bottle so excited to see how it compares to my favorite bourbon.

This may sound a bit daft, but a Redbreast Old Fashion is might tasty!

I think I lucked out - retail at a local grocery store of all places…. 🥰

UPDATED: At the urging of my son, I've cracked this bottle to sample the contents and all I can say is "where have you been all of my life!!!" Amazing nose (likely sounds crazy, but I could definitely smell traces of the Rickhouses it had been stored in!), mouth feel and long warm finish. Love the smoothness of 14 years of rest, followed by 4 months of the complexity added by the cognac barrel staves mixed with the heavily toasted staves the whiskey was finished in. All kinds of wonderful flavors (wish I could be more specific them other than to say the flavor is very "complex"). I will continue to pursue what the specifics are about the flavors that I'm experiencing, but sad to say I can only enjoy this experience through the end of the bottle because I can't imagine ever finding another bottle at a reasonable price...

Congrats and enjoy!

Some are better than others but I never had a bad one.
Thanks! Tried a sample at my local where I get most of my bottles. Outstanding! Their store picks are almost always great. I love that they sample in store here. The powers that be back in Utah where I used to live would turn crimson red at the very thought. The only weird liquor law here is all alcohol products have to be in separate areas accessible to 21+ only. Kind of a pain in the ass but I’ll take it. Love it up here in gods country.

Not sure what to make of this whiskey (going to open it soon), but for $50 retail how bad could it be? The son and I were just taking about how Canadian whiskeys were stepping up their game - hopefully this is an amazing example of that! We shall see!!!

I had a bottle a few years ago. It was really nice and was fairly different than your typical profile. I got a lot of sweetness and vanilla, almost like vanilla pudding. It was a great dessert whisky. Each barrel is different so your experience may not be the same. Please let us know what you think when you try it.

I've had a couple of tastes and it's a very nice $50ish bottle of whiskey. It is a bit less intense than bourbon and even American rye whiskeys (such as Templetons or Whistlepig), but it is a very nicely balanced, routine kind of drinking whisky. I did taste the vanilla notes (pretty subtle) and some of the sweetness - not sure I would describe it as a "dessert" whisky, but I can definitely see pairing it with just about anything. It's not overpowering at all. Might be a pretty good companion for a Macanudo, but maybe not with something as intense as a La Flor Dominica!
