As much as premium sticks and fine spirits make me feel like I’m living a life of luxury, I know we can’t all be executive officers with a humi on our mohagany desks and a bottle of McCallen in the drawer. I think it would be fun to share what we do to afford our hobby.

I work in a feed mill. I spend most of my days running a pellet mill, managing a production schedule, turning wrenches, and occasionally operating heavy equipment.

Retired military. Up until very recently I was the Manager of Outreach Programs at Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum on Oahu. Basically, I dealt with pre-teen (usually) terrorists all day out in their classrooms. Currently I am a Man of Leisure, but I've got my eye on a few possibilities once I feel like contributing to taxes, once again.
 
That’s badass man. You certainly deserve to be a man of leisure!
 
Day in day out Woodford Reserve. Old Grandad for visitors to who mix. Current favorite "special" bourbon is Elmer T Lee.
 
I spent 20 years as a high school English teacher, and technically still am, but for the last 4 years I've been a Distance Educator & Curriculum Developer for a state-wide public charter here in Texas. Basically, I broadcast live instruction to 7-9 campuses simultaneously, and wrote the online courses the students (and onsite classroom English teachers) use with that.

From a broom closet sized office, but it was a 20% raise. 😂

Still can't really afford where my taste in stogies 'n hootch runs, but I decided a long time ago to just not GAF.

I've had a good career as an EE. I was a 'late bloomer' and dabbled in high end home and pro audio, and the art of the recording studio until I went back and finished up my EE. I've had three jobs at this game, the current one designing server grade networking hardware for Intel for almost 20 years. Not yet a man of leisure, but it's not that far distant. Clearly far more days in the workplace in the rearview mirror than on the road ahead. Someone has to smoke all these cigars...!!....:D

Awesome! I guess I know who to hit up when I’m having PLC issues for our automation system. Because lord knows the creators don’t know how to work their own controls 🤣

Nice. I’m a scotch man at heart, but I’ve been nursing a bottle of bookers and I’m a pretty big fan of woodford. I love me some ‘Lexington’ bourbon for mixing (plus the bottle looks great in the cabinet)
 
My background is in engineering and construction project management, but I’m currently a Stay At Home Dad. I prefer wheated whiskeys and Nicaraguan sticks. I sometimes out spend my budget on both but I figure that’s the hidden cost of raising two “Calvin’s” while I play the role of “Hobbs”.
 
Retired from the Army a few years ago, but still support them as a network engineer with a not-for-profit R&D company. Trying to get better on the the process of fielding yesterday's technology tomorrow at next week's prices.

I was a framing carpenter and, briefly, a jobsite manager for a construction firm before I went on to college at the ripe old age of 32 to do what I'm doing now and I'm still a little ....well, unfiltered, I suppose one might say, so I hear ya on that one!
