Hey Chat fans...

I feel the urge to post a picture of a fat chick. Someone stop me before it's too late for us all...

ACK! Well big girls need loving too!

And most of the people at my company wished our boss would only sit around and idle his day away... he causes more problems, now that he is getting ready to retire, than before.

Furthermore, you still haven't explained why you haven't addressed my long standing signature before today.

I was trying to think of what kind of argument this was and the closest I could come up with was Red Herring.

A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. The basic idea is to "win" an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic. This sort of "reasoning" has the following form:

Topic A is under discussion. (Signature content)
Topic B is introduced under the guise of being relevant to topic A (when topic B is actually not relevant to topic A). (timing of bringing up issue)
Topic A is abandoned. (Signature content)

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because merely changing the topic of discussion hardly counts as an argument against a claim.

If you guys haven't read it before, Fallacies is a very interesting read.

Not a dig on you at all, Josh. Was an exercise for myself to figure it out and find that URL again. I thought I'd share. :)

You better make that a link with NSFW tag Dan, I can't have my coworkers seeing that!

Oh and I just received a PM that said maybe the reason that we didn't notice the sigs before now is that the sig's owners were all in chat and now that its gone they are posting more making the sigs more noticeable.

Good point.

Your day is my night... I'm rarely on chat during the day...

I think I might smoke a Partagas later.

GB?

Yeah, I know the perfect person to handle this, they just haven't been on the board in a few weeks...

That's exactly what occurred to me earlier. And I think this applies to poker as well. If we got rid of chat (already done) and poker, and that 2% of membership never came back, wouldn't it prove that the only reason they were around was to use CP for those individual resources, and that they didn't care about being a member of the community as a whole?

Are there any chatters who have left the forum as a result of flashchat going offline? I don't know of any.

I guess I just don't see why this continues to be discussed as if we don't all understand what happened and why.

We're all here to buck Rod.

Unless it's illegal in the 48 continguous states! ???

Not to mention that considering the fact we still have a chat room, so any increase in posting is likely unrelated to the loss of flashchat.

As for the future of Chat, that's for you guys to endlessly discuss, but I would like one aspect of it back...and please excuse me if someone already brought this up somewhere else here.

When I would periodically jump in, it was mainly to find someone and create a Private Chat. I guess I'm old school in the fact that I used it as a tool for cigar discussions. It was easier to go one-on-one with an individual to discuss a particular cigar then send numerous PMs back & forth. For me, to ask "did you get my check" or "did you get the cigars I sent you yet" or "I saw you bought that stick in a group buy, what do you think of it?"...it was a way of conversing and getting to know someone a little better without disturbing all the other 'chatters' from their flow of conversation.

I for one would like to see that feature added to the drop down when you click on a member's name for what you would like to do with them....

Once you see that they are signed on to CP at the home page, you then could institute a one-on-one chat for whatever purpose you intend....and not offend anybody while doing so.

I'm not sure this is possible, or if anyone else wants this, but I just thought I would bring it up to the Community.

Gary,

IRC is a chat format that allows you to have many channels (rooms) open at once while logged in. This feature is very fundamental to IRC use, you can always create a new channel by typing /join #channelname Alternatively you can open a chat string with an individual by typing /dcc username chat.

I remember days of IRC...used to do that all the time...I miss chat...that's about all I can say.

That has nothing at all to do with this, my kid couldn't read most of the stuff posted in the sigs to begin with and even if she could wouldn't understand what it meant. Bouncing boobies don't bother anyone over here in Europe either, Its the US of A that seems to take being prude to such high extremes.

Totally tangental, but I can't give up the opportunity to steer the conversation towards bouncing boobies. It is actually Europe (or rather, more accurately, Western Europe) that is the exception. The vast, vast majority of the world is far more prudish than the USA.

Believe it or not, on matters of titties, the USA schizophrenically straddles the middle ground, and is often viewed by the majority of the world as being too extreme in all things sexual. Yes, you have topless beaches in some places in Europe, but you also have them in the USA.

Let's not forget that the world is a much larger place than Europe and the USA. Latin America = prude. China = prude. India = prude. Middle East = uber prude. That right there, my friends, is far more than a majority of the world.

Well, with that thought, welcome back Reon. I've missed her.
