I went primitive camping with a friend last weekend and all-in-all we had a great weekend. We knew we would have some rain and possibly a lot, so we set up a couple tarps under the trees where the pin is in the below picture. Sure enough Saturday afternoon at about drunk-thirty, we got an absolute downpour. To get the tarps properly set up, we had to be very close to the creek. The fire was about 5 feet from the bank and in order for both of us to be dry, I was sitting about 3 feet from the bank.
When we had arrived the 30 foot wide stream was nearly dry, after 25 minutes of the downpour there was 2 1/2 feet of raging water flowing. At first we marveled, then we started joking about bailing out, then we started to serious consider what to grab if we had to head to higher ground.
When I told John @jfields this he said "grab the beer" We seriously discussed grabbing the beer and cigars and whatever valuable stuff we could pitch into the bed of the truck.
The rain soon subsided and all was good but it created one of those great memories.
