Hallowe'en is coming!

Ahhhh damn ..... Night of the Living Dead scared the crap out of me as a kid! I'm not a huge fan of this genre but do like The Changeling and Poltergeist enough to have them in my DVD collection. We won't even talk about the Exorcist and what "that" movie did to me .... ??? :whistling:

Last weekend we went to see a showing of the 1925 Phantom of the Opera, black & white, silent movie, featuring Lon Chaney and Mary Philbin. The showing we saw had a guy playing a 1921 Robert Morton Pipe Organ to accompany the movie. Cool experience.

Oh crap, forgot to add the Changeling with George C Scott. Friggin awesome movie!

How about Ghost Story? That was another great classic!

Lon Chaney has long been among my favorite actors. Had great depth to his roles and played them so well...especially when he played the DI in "Tell It To The Marines." Such a great movie.

I believe that was called Trilogy of Terror. The one you are speaking of was of an old African artifact that comes to life because the belt of the doll fell off. That thing was chasing Karen Black around the house and ultimately the spirit possessed her. Awesome made for tv movie!

Classic movie. I think it is Gene Wilders best. The charactors name though was Frau Blucher. I found this on Wikipedia:

When I first saw Zombie I had rented the VHS version. I put it in and it had been stopped right at the close up of the diver's crotch before she went in the water. Friggin' pervs!!!

The Italians made some interesting contibutions to the zombie genre.

BTW, AVB had it right. H.P. Lovecraft is the master of printed horror.

The Changeling...It stars George C. Scott amd was made in 1980. It's not full full of gore. It's an intellegent well made movie that will make the hair stand on the back of your neck stand.

I highly recommend it. :thumbs:

Day of the Dead was a clunker, in my opinion, as well as City of the Dead. Romero really sucked wind on those two.

The Brood was definitely scary (gotta love Cronenberg's vision, eh?!!!). Haven't been able to look at Dr Denten's the same way again after that flick!

Its Alive was cheesy, but I remember it scarring the ever living shit out of me when I was a pre-teenager! 2nd and third sequels were a bit too stupid for my tastes.

I forgot one that I really liked, having seen it recently..... The Boogeyman (not the remake from several years back, of some being who lives in a closet) but the early 80s film. If you haven't seen it, you really must. Cheesy at different times, but there was that element of fear and dread that really permeated those movies.

Anyone ever see Beyond the Door (the first one?) That one had a nice scare factor to it. Not to be confused with the porno Beyond the Green Door. :laugh:

Ah, Marilyn Chambers, pure as...lol. I recall Beyond the Door...vaugely. There was also one I recall seeing that had a cheesy scare factor to it called "Don't Go In The House."
