Hallowe'en is coming!

Ahhhh damn ..... Night of the Living Dead scared the crap out of me as a kid! I'm not a huge fan of this genre but do like The Changeling and Poltergeist enough to have them in my DVD collection. We won't even talk about the Exorcist and what "that" movie did to me .... ??? :whistling:

Last weekend we went to see a showing of the 1925 Phantom of the Opera, black & white, silent movie, featuring Lon Chaney and Mary Philbin. The showing we saw had a guy playing a 1921 Robert Morton Pipe Organ to accompany the movie. Cool experience.

Oh crap, forgot to add the Changeling with George C Scott. Friggin awesome movie!

How about Ghost Story? That was another great classic!

Oh yeah, Ghost Story

What was the name of that one with the little carved statue that came to life? Another one that tramatized me as a kid.

First horror movie was Nightmare on Elm Street. Still my favorite.

Lon Chaney has long been among my favorite actors. Had great depth to his roles and played them so well...especially when he played the DI in "Tell It To The Marines." Such a great movie.

I believe that was called Trilogy of Terror. The one you are speaking of was of an old African artifact that comes to life because the belt of the doll fell off. That thing was chasing Karen Black around the house and ultimately the spirit possessed her. Awesome made for tv movie!

Darren

HMmmmmm, I thought it was the name Frau Bluehair that caused the horse to whinny? hahahaha

Marty Feldman, we miss you! A-B-Normal!!! hahahaha

Putting on the ritz,
Darren

You are quite correct. I'm em-bare-assed. Thanks for the correction. Good reason to watch it again!

Anyone see the dvd behind the scenes from this? Absolutely hilarious. Feldman kept everyone laughing with his antics.

Classic movie. I think it is Gene Wilders best. The charactors name though was Frau Blucher. I found this on Wikipedia:

"Every time Frau Blücher's name is mentioned, horses are heard whinnying. Many people believe the point of the joke to be that Blücher is German for "glue." This belief has been identified as an urban legend, though in a 2000 interview Brooks suggested that he did base the joke on this erroneous translation, which he had heard from someone."

How could I forget Ghost Ship & The Cube series.

But am I the only one who absolutely loves the original 93' version of Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas"? What an instant classic. I haven't seen the 3D re release yet.

I love '30s and '40s horror and '50s cheese and sci-fi.
Favorites include:
Nosferatu
Freaks
Frankenstein
Bride Of Frankenstein
Dracula
The Wolfman
Tha Black Cat
The Mummy
Creature From The Black Lagoon
Incredible Shrinking Man
The Cyclops
The Amazing Colassal Man
Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman
The Brain That Wouldn't Die
Alien
Forbidden Planet
2001 A Space Odyssey
and a movie not with monsters but with monstrous children... "The Other", one of the creepiest films I've ever seen.
Happy Halloween!

now that I think about it "blair Witch" was damn good (only to watch ONCE!!!)

28 days was damn good also.

the zombies with speed strength and endurance KILLED the remake of Dawn, IMO awful.

Day of the Dead was another one I liked!

1st Childs Play scared me, along with Return of the living dead at age 10ish?

ZOMBIE was only good because of the topless diver!!! and the "eye" scene

anyone ever watch "burial ground"? nothing like a young boy wanting to suck moms bobbie then biting it off, oh that was classic cheesiness!!!!

I spit on your grave
the brood
IT was pretty scary

...A little teaser for y'all.

When I first saw Zombie I had rented the VHS version. I put it in and it had been stopped right at the close up of the diver's crotch before she went in the water. Friggin' pervs!!!

The Italians made some interesting contibutions to the zombie genre.

BTW, AVB had it right. H.P. Lovecraft is the master of printed horror.

The Changeling...It stars George C. Scott amd was made in 1980. It's not full full of gore. It's an intellegent well made movie that will make the hair stand on the back of your neck stand.

I highly recommend it.

I just remembered a handful more

the prowler (savini)
maniac (savini) I still watch this one, Joe Spinnel rules!!!
the burning (more savini)

night of the zombies (a better ripoff of "dawn" plus great boob closeup!)

None has metioned my two favourites yet, both Stephen kings.

1. Storm of the century
2. the Shining

Day of the Dead was another one I liked!

the brood

Day of the Dead was a clunker, in my opinion, as well as City of the Dead. Romero really sucked wind on those two.

The Brood was definitely scary (gotta love Cronenberg's vision, eh?!!!). Haven't been able to look at Dr Denten's the same way again after that flick!

Its Alive was cheesy, but I remember it scarring the ever living shit out of me when I was a pre-teenager! 2nd and third sequels were a bit too stupid for my tastes.

I forgot one that I really liked, having seen it recently..... The Boogeyman (not the remake from several years back, of some being who lives in a closet) but the early 80s film. If you haven't seen it, you really must. Cheesy at different times, but there was that element of fear and dread that really permeated those movies.

Anyone ever see Beyond the Door (the first one?) That one had a nice scare factor to it. Not to be confused with the porno Beyond the Green Door.

Ah, Marilyn Chambers, pure as...lol. I recall Beyond the Door...vaugely. There was also one I recall seeing that had a cheesy scare factor to it called "Don't Go In The House."
