Gotta love bowl season

Ya'll are killing me. There is only 1 National Championship caliber team this year, and they have a Heisman winner at quarterback....

You think "the system is seriously flawed" and I don't, no need to get pissy about it.
I'm not getting pissy, man... just the way I talk when I get excited. :)

Do you think the NFL should do away with playoffs then? There are less teams and they at least play everyone in their conference, so there should be no doubt as to who the top team or top two teams are, right? Should March Madness go away, too? With the number of games there are in basketball and the selection process that already exists, you can't tell me that they don't already know who the winner is?

Or is a playoff good for one system but bad for another? Do you feel any other sport would benefit from a BCS-type system or is it only suitable for Div 1A college football?

I don't think anyone's really arguing this, though. I agree with you on this aspect.

So you're saying why even call it the national championship game since it's obvious who the winner would be? Do away with all rankings before the bowl system? Or am I shoving words into your mouth? Rhetorical question since I know the answer. ;)

I don't pay much attention to the NFL so I don't care about their playoff system. As I alluded to before, I think playing football in the middle of the winter is stupid. Comparing college basketball to college football is like comparing apples and oranges. College football seasons have traditionally been only ten or eleven games and a bowl game that was no later than January 1st and I don't think the college football season (including bowls) should go past New Year's Day.

With respect to NCAA basketball, I personally think winning one's regular season conference title is far more important than winning one's conference torunament and that they're both more important than how far a team gets in the NCAA tournament. By the way, the present day NCAA basketball tournament is relatively "new" in the whole scheme of things. It wasn't too long ago that the NIT was the prestigious tournament and it was by "invitation" and I'm sure there was plenty of whining back then too.

So if Florida beats Ohio State, do you think there should be a split title as has been done in the past or should it go to Florida outright?

Doesn't a "split title" just mean that the two major polls had different teams as the #1? One of 'em pretty much mirrors or is a part of the BCS and the other is separate?

The whole "National Championship" is a farce anyhow. Each poll has it's own champion, so you get the "Football Thesaurus" naming Bama the champion even though they were 20th in the country and it's counted as a national championship (yes, that was a long time ago, but it's still true now).

GO LOUISVILE!!!!!!!!

I'm with ya shooter, I hope Louisville wins and so far, so good, 10-3!

Thats "S"hooter to you!!!!! :sign:

I beg 1000 pardons kind sir.

Man I have it bad..... I thought you said "I beg a 1000 padron's"
 Well, I remember the expression from a Bugs Bunny type cartoon where the character who said it had a heavy middle eastern accent so he left the "a" out so I just copied his version.

No, I was asking his opinion on what he thinks should happen under the present BCS system since the implementation of the BCS in 1998 where one "split title" has occured which was in 2003.

That's what I'm talking about. There wasn't a split championship in the BCS. LSU (13-1) won the BCS. USC (12-1) won the AP Poll. The played in separate bowl games.

EDIT: Yes, I'm looking this shit up... I don't follow it that close, believe me.

There have been plenty of surprises in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. I think most would argue that last year's winner (Florida) was quite a surprise.

The biggest problem with a football playoff is that you can't expect a team to play more than 1 game a week and be fair. The tournament would stretch out far too long. I know there are a lot of college football fans that would love the season to last all year, but I think there are also quite a few who think the season is already too long with all of the bowls. Besides, I don't know if a college football playoff would want to compete with the NFL playoffs. It would have to be finished before the NFL playoffs started or I think it would suffer.

Most of these teams just had six weeks off before this bowl game, though. Some of that was exams and holidays, sure. A top 8 bracket would only take 3 weeks to play.

I just don't feel the current system produces anything close to a clear cut national championship and some sort of playoff system would come closer. You'll still get people whining regardless.

Happy New Year.

You're right about that!

I'd love to see a playoff. I just don't think it will happen. There's way too much money wrapped up in the bowls.

Happy New Year to you as well!
