OK so I changed my mind.

Delta Pack/Cigar #2

Robusto
Shade wrapper

This cigar was very mild, ALMOST flavorless but not a bad cigar.
Clipped pre-draw was very open with a little hint of flavor.

The ash held for about an inch but was very solid when it came off.
What flavor it had was pretty straighforward tobacco. This cigar did smoke very well.
It didnt get hot, mushy or bitter at all. With about 2" to go it did pick
up a little grassy amonia taste but that was the worst thing i can say about it.

All in all I'd say it was either a mild run of the mill $5 cigar or a very well made $1 cigar. If its a $1 smoke its not bad, just a little mild and bland for my tastes but I'd smoke another one, maybe in the morning

Oh and the coffee was great as always ;)

It was a $1.00 smoke. There may still be some gems out there.

Delta Pack/#5

Maduro
7 1/2 x 50

A very toothy, slick cigar.
Pre light draw has a hint of cocoa, with a slightly resistant draw.
Not fully open but not plugged either.

Initial flavor is mild dark cocoa, not rich or overpowering but more than a hint. Theres a very tiny hint of spice. This cigar held a good ash, and it was a dark color with white streaks running thru it.

It burnt very even and maintained the initial cocoa flavor all the way thru.
Very smooth and mild, maybe mild/med. Ive found that my tastes run to the strong side, meaning what i call med. most people consider full. Not a bad smoke at all.
It reminded me of a maduro Romeo.

Now as to the price, the one thing that has me leary about calling this a $1 smoke was the wrapper, man this thing had some tooth to it, it was well constructed but then again ALL of the smokes in my pack seem to be of at least decent construction. ??? $5 smoke? ???

Golfgar can you PM me the exact identity of both these cigars, I really wouldnt mind trying this one again, especially if it turns out to be another $1 cigar

Delta #5 is something called Riata and again it is a buck. Delta #2 is a Highlander. Not bad for a buck eh?

Man, that box had me salivating. I told my wife that I've got to upgrade my cigar collection a bit so I can have more smokes like some that are in the pass - yeah, that went over real well

My P & T's:

T: #8; P: Perdomo Reserve Maduro Figurado

T: #2; P: Puros Indios Maxima Reserva Robusto

T: #29; P: Perdomo 2 Milenario Maduro Torpedo

I'm taking the $1 bag labeled lota. I just tried one of these sticks so I will post my review shortly. This bird will be back in the air later today to Golfgar.

Okay, I tried one of the Sticks from the lota bag (it was #1). First of all, I have a new name for this smoke, The Ugly Stick. This thing was pretty hideous. The construction left much to be desired. The cigar had bumps all over the wrapper, there was discoloration, in a couple places it was already starting to unravel slightly. Well, even though these pictures don't do it justice, let me show you what I mean...

And here is a close-up pic:

Before lighting up, due to the looks of this sucker, I was already starting to form a negative opinion. As I began smoking, it had a very easy draw with an incredibly mellow, mild flavor. I could hardly taste this puppy. I almost felt like ditching it, but I wanted to give it a fair shake. As I kept smoking this stick (and it was a pretty good sized sucker), I noticed the flavorless stick picking up and beginning to provide me with something. It was still very mild, but very smooth as well. The burn on this cigar was EXCELLENT! The ash held very well and I was impressed with these two things. About a third of the way into the smoke, the super mild cigar started to become one which was starting to have more strength. In fact, the longer I smoked it, the more strength and the more I began enjoying it. Mid way into the smoke, there were even times that I was thinking that this reminded me (sort of) of a hemingway. I was calling it my poor man's hemingway. However, the last 1/3 of the smoke, that title went away due to a slightly funky after taste.

The bottom line was that after you get a 1/3 into this smoke, it is a pretty pleasant mild to med smoke. Towards the end of the stick, it was still enjoyable, but the aftertaste was kind of funky (not bad, but not exactly great). Throughout the smoke, it was VERY smooth which was nice. The burn was EXCELLENT, which made up somewhat for how ugly this stick was in appearance.

I'm very interested to know what this was, Golfgar! I'd be surprised if it were a $5 one. It's got to be one of the dollar sticks, correct? If I didn't know that it was either a $1 or $5+, I would think it would probably be a $2 (possible $3 smoke). However, since that isn't what you put in our bags, I'll go with the $1.

Nice Review! This is fun with pics and all. BTW Orangeman the plays are fine. Hope you had fun.

The Rosetta stone says that it is indeed a $1.00 cigar. I don't know whether or not to divulge the identity of the cigar since there are more of them in the pass. What do you think? If you want I will post the name if not I will wait.

Yeah, probably keep it under wraps would be the best thing until the pass is over. Although, is my picture giving it away a bit?

Well, I decided to keep the taste test rolling since there haven't been many reviews. I tried another mystery cigar from the bag tonight. This one was #5 from the lota bag.

This cigar, unlike the "Ugly Stick" was much easier on the eyes. It had a very nice tan, leather appearance with pronounced veins. After lighting it up, it was on. This stick was certainly not mild and it kind of hit me in the mouth from the get go. However, the med to full strength body of this cigar was about all it had going for it, as flavor was lacking. Unlike the first cigar I tried, which had it's moments of good flavor, this one never really did. After about 15% into this smoke, I knew this one was probably not going to be for me and it had to be a $1 smoke. It just lacked character and any redeeming flavor. The aftertaste was a little harsh and it didn't have any smooth quality to it. It was simply a med-full strength smoke which was very straight forward. Perhaps a good smoke to give the boys at the poker table who are already blitzed and don't know any better.

On a slight positive note; the stick burned very evenly and it held the ash quite well. Take a look at the pic (which was about 50% into the smoke)...

As you can see, this had a little over an inch of ash with very little flakiness to it. The even burn of this stick was about all I can say that was positive. I would rather not try this one again, but would be interested in trying the first cigar I had again (for comparison purposes). This cigars HAS to be in the $1 category. I would be shocked if I found out otherwise.

So how did I do, Golfgar?

You did great! I received the package today and will reload with the rest of the fivers and then send it out to WAM on Monday. Also, #5 Iota is indeed a $1.00 cigar.

That's good, 'cause if that puppy was a $5 smoke I would have begun to second guess my smoking palette

By the way golfgar, where did you get all these $1 smokes? It sounds like some of them are pretty decent, especially for being only a buck (with the exception of the latest one I tried). When I go to my local cigar shop, I never see anything for a $1 (although I do live in Podunk, USA)

I'm looking forward to this. I'm moving and this will be my last chance at a pass for a while.

The Ps and Ts I plan are
Take:
Opus xXx
Montisino Robusto
PAM Principe
Opus Super Beli

Put:
Anejo Robusto
Graycliff Espresso Pirate
AF Hemmi Maddie
AF Cuban Beli sun grown

The takes are cigars I haven't tried yet ( except the xXx I love those little suckers :) )

I smoked the #3 out of my beta bag. It was a maduro toro sized cigar. It had some tooth to it. It burned fantastic. I've had a cigar like this before. ERDM?

Smoked #4 out of my Lambda bag today. Churchill sized with a good draw. It had an even burn, and held a little over an inch of ash. Low smoke volume and lack of complexity however. I would guess this is a $1 smoke.

Bill, BTW the puts and takes look fine.

OK two reviews this time.
The first one is from memory I took notes on them and lost the notes I took when I moved.

Delta #1
Robusto
Shade wrapper
From what i remember this was the strongest one yet it had a little spice and a little bite.
As with all the cigars so far it had a good burn and held an ash very well.
A little bitter at the halfway mark but not bad. Very honduran like.
This cigar had the body I like from a cigar but it was a little bitter.

--------------------------------------------------

Delta #4
7x50
Shade wrapper
Outward appearance shows a somewhat toothy wrapper. Very light color.
Pre lite draw was uneventful.
The first thing I noticed about this cigar is that the ash was a very dark color. Reminded me of the ash on a PSD #4. Eack draw produced lots of thick smoke.
The flavor profile of this stick was very interesting. The initial flavor was very smooth and creamy, dare I say it tasted slightly cuban. The aftertaste was harsh in the back of my throat, very subtle but still harsh.
Each puff brought me through the 2 flavor changes, smooth warm butter :D followed by the mild harshness :0 . I smoked this cigar to the nub. Despite the aftertaste the initial flavor kept me puffing on this cigar till i could lite it and hold it no more.

I have got to know what this one is.

I tried another smoke the other day from the Iota bag, #3. Unlike the others, with this one, I didn't have the luxury of taking pictures and detailed notes. Therefore this review will be short and sweet and to the best of my memory.

Very small cigar, but had pretty good flavor once I got into it a bit. Fairly smooth taste with no harsh or lingering aftertaste. The appearance and construction was quite good. The burn was pretty even througout and the ash held solid. I really enjoyed this medium-bodied smoke. If this little guy is only a buck, then let me know what it is because I'd like to have some in my humi. However, I don't think it is. It just seemed to have a profile that is not consistent with that of a dollar cigar. Therefore, my guess is that this is THE cigar that is NOT a buck.

1 is an LFD L300 2 or so years old. The other is a dollar cigar. Nice to know you can still get something decent for a buck.

It was only $1.00! I was surprised that I could get those for a dollar, but nonetheless it was only a buck. I like that brand.
