For once, knowledge is making me poor!
Just like we have a list of bad BOTL's to help people prevent dealing with a bad character, we can now have a list of bad companies.....here is my rant.
Toro's small engine yard machines suck and their customer service is downright deceitful.
Incident #1
A neighbor asked if I could look at his Toro CCR 2450 snowblower because it had seized up and Toro told him it was his fault because he had used the wrong gas/oil mixture. Long story short, I rebuilt the engine for him and in the process found out why it had seized up. The motor sits at a 45 degree angle with the exhaust port on top and the muffler sitting directly on top of that port.
1. Every two-stroke engine known to man builds up carbon in the muffler.
2. When a muffler full of carbon is violently shaken the carbon will fall out.
3. In this case it goes straight down in to the cylinder, scores the piston wall, and that's all she wrote!
If you google "Toro CCR 2450 seizing" you can read some of the incredible stories that Toro has told people as to why it is the customers fault. Toro is telling people that they used the wrong fuel mixture and telling them that they failed to shake their gas, and since gas and oil separate, that is why the unit seized up.
Incident #2
I bought a Toro Personal Pace 21" push mower many 10 years ago. The Personal Pace system is incredible, whatever speed you walk at the mower propels itself at your pace by sensing the pressure you are applying to the handle.....ingenious! That's where the good news stops! The self propulsion won't disengage so when you are mowing around trees or bushes or the house it is very hard to pull the mower backwards because the drive gears are engaged. Toro told me it was my fault because "I was failing to stop pushing on the handle 3-4 feet prior to wanting the propulsion to stop" They told me to "stop pushing on the handle and push the mower by holding the sides of the handle for 3-4 feet before I want it to stop, this is how you disengage the drive system" I asked how to do that when mowing around trees and bushes? They told me to "use a different mower for that or don't use the handle, push the mower by the sides of the handle"
The bagging set up is virtually impossible to use because you can't remove the bag and dump the grass in to a garbage/yard bag; the bag gets caught inside the garbage bag and rips it open. Toro told me to "use a compost heap".
DON'T BUY FROM TORO!
