CP's "Cigar 101" Newbie Pass 4

Alright! We got a few responses, but a ton more in the pass that can throw in their thoughts.

Los made a suggestion for everyone to list their prices when posting T/P's. I'm thinking this may be a good idea. Post the price for each cigar and if they're questioned, give information on how the prices were determined. I would be very interested to see what thoughts each player has in determining the trade values.

Let's try it and see how it goes.

My opinion it is fine. I believe the gurkha is more expensive then the patron actually. I also think they are both pretty attainable.

Is living outside the USA will be a problem?

Just for future reference, living outside the USA is a very, very, very bad thing when it comes to passes. If Israeli customs is anything like Canada Customs, then they just don't get the concept.

Virtual is the way to go, my appreciation to Kingantz for allowing this. Hopefully the next Newbie pass organizer and participants will be as accommodating :whistling: .

I'll be watching and learning from this one, though :thumbs: .

Naw.. According to my math (which at times is questionable, I admit) He's up two bucks. He's good. Again Greg thanks a lot for this!! This is my first pass, and I hope I don't disappoint!

Oh, and mrrt, I was adding everything the row. I didn't see the "throwing out high and low price" bit. So I would assume add everything.

OK, the first one seems ok to me, but the put on the second item seems too high too me. While I understand leaving the pass in better shape then it was in, taking a 10 dollar smoke and putting a 17 dollar smoke for it seems high to me. The third P and T are closer to the range I would think is considered acceptable when putting a stick in that is higher then what you are taking.

To help with understanding how MSRP was determined, how did you find the Ashton price?

I'm not going to pick at any comments, but I must say...this pass should be enjoyable, and if a grown man is putting in a stick that retails for $7 more than what he's taking, he's obviously okay with it. Ultimately, it's Greg's call, but nitpicking can make things unenjoyable.

I agree with you waves. If he's putting in more than he's taking I don't see the problem, I was just answering other posts. As long as it's not the other way around I think it's all good. As far as the second take I can't say. For the life of me I couldn't find the DPG on Gregs link. But again I agree with you, I don't mind putting more than I'm taking, but thst's just me.

There was no "nit picking" at all going on, this is is a newbie pass and a learning pass for those who have never been in a pass before or have little pass experience. We were asked to provide comments on what we thought was acceptable puts and takes and that is what i was doing. This is my first pass so maybe I misunderstood what we were being asked to do here. If all we should be saying is looks good, then that is what I will do. I also do not mind putting more then I am taking, I was just making an observation.

All good stuff guys! There's more than enough less expensive smokes in the pass, so I don't think we have to worry about this one T/P. However, it is a very good point that we don't want it to happen with ever T/P as it could be a problem for others on down the list. Try and stay as close as possible, but by no means it doesn't have to be right on "the money".

Lets say someone takes a padron 2000 and puts a JdN Consul. I believe when its your turn you could take the JdN Consul and put a padron 2000 back. Ive not seen a pass where there were multiples of one cigar.

I may be way off though.

I've actually been in a couple of passes where multiple cigars were put in, however these were very high end smokes that more than likely would be taken (Opus, Padron 80th, HTF Cubans, etc). Being that this is a newbie pass with mostly low end smokes, I don't see a reason to put in duplicates here, however I won't say it absolutely will not happen. If all you have to trade is what is already in the pass, shoot me a PM to discuss, we'll figure something out.

I agree with John on this one.. Though it is his choice to put in the extra price value, I wouldn't want this turning into a contest or a one-up-manship?( if that makes sense) By no means am I trying to say Andy is doing that either. Please don't let it be read that way. But as a Newbie pass I feel we should try to stay with in a range.. Again just MHO and it ultimately comes down to Greg.

No worries, it just seemed liked the puts and takes were getting grilled on quite a few posts after just the first pass. My biggest peave with passes is people that try to trade up, but you're right, it could end up being a pissing match if people try to out-do each other with their puts.
